sounds as though you lived life in the middle of the road. thank you for being so honest about your sheltered life with music. that takes a certain amount of courage, which is of course admirable.
this is on a longplay. why does this mix go from Olivia newton John to The Doors? that's a leap

I like both George Harrison's and Olivia's versions of this song. Does anyone know if Olivia's version of this song is on a compilation/anthology of Olivia's 70s hits/ songs that is easy to find?
I prefer Olivia's version because she is "IT" and I've never heard Georges version. Olivia's is known better than his. and was well listened to in the early 70's in the USA and Mexico.
@CodyWestLovesOlivia I was still living in Mexico City in 71' when this song came out by George Harrison where it was a big hit, never knew this version ever existed until You Tube, I think you have your facts backward.
i love olivia but the rock arrangement obviously suited george better. the producer of the cover should've balladized this for olivia or at least slowed it down some or replace the guitar with another instrument..
I don't want to be critical of a great singer or your video post, but let's just say...I don't see this as a hit. Even though it was. But then again, I liked Aerosmith's version of "Come Together" when most people hated it.
So I guess that's evidence I don't have taste in music maybe?
No, this wasn't a hit. It only charted on Easy Listening and was played on middle-road type stations. I'm posting obscure stuff I heard on the stations I listened to--thinking that maybe others might remember it, too. I like the version because it's the first one I heard (I never knew it was a cover till years later), but you're completely entitled to your opinion. In my previous incarnation on YT I had it posted and received lots of negative comments.
I see. Sorry, again I don't mean to be critical of others' posts. I don't have the know how to post videos, or I'd put up a bunch of oldies stuff I have, so my hats are off to anyone who can post songs to youtube. I see the direction you're going with this incarnation on YT. I like the idea. Thanks.
This was a hit in the UK, giving Olivia Newton-John the odd distinction of having with cover versions of consecutive tracks on someone else's album, ie All Things Must Pass by George Harrison (the other was If Not For You).
@txpommie Correct, it wasn't a hit. Only appeared on the Adult Contemp chart in the US. But played on the station I listened to, and that's why I posted it.
@minkymott "What is life" was not a hit in the US but was in Mexico and South America. Olivia is an international superstar today and has hit's that were huge and not that are hit's today in other countries.
I just read about this on Wiki and sure enough, it's here to check out ...thanks for posting it. I'm a Beatles fan, but growing up in the 70s, Olivia was a huge star and one of my first teenage star crushes lol She did a good job on this one. Oddly Elvis Presley covered two of her hits on his last(?) album. Thanks again!
Great version. Thanks for posting it. From an era when it was well understood that covering someone's else tune meant putting a distinctive personal stamp on it WITHOUT disrespecting and befouling the original melody, harmony, orchestration, rhythm, lyrics, or message.
Where have you been, friend? Been looking all over for this song and for all of your other gems that you post, and you seemed to have vanished! Glad you're back, and posting all of these good, but maybe forgotten, songs. Just use your old radio as I, and I'm sure others, miss that.

Olivia's version of this song was a minor hit: it got to No.16 on the UK charts, and to No.34 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart.

I like the guitar in this version of the song. Olivia's vocals are very raw, and not altered very much in this cover.

@MrTrashcan1 Actually it was a hit in Mexico. It's on the ONJ greatest hits in Mexico.
DougMcCallister1 1 year ago
@MrTrashcan1 I think this was the B side to her cover of Bob Dylan's 'If not for you' so it wasn't a hit in its own right.

@txpommie Oh yes, that was #1 on the UK charts

@MrTrashcan1 I love the song both this version and George's, but his sounds like it was produced by the wacko Phil Spector.

For Real....on Elvis Presley's last album "Moody Blue", he covered Olvia's hits "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)" and "Let Me Be There" :)
