Ok, so what if the equation is 8t②-32=0 ?

I tried doing it and i got : 8(t②-4)=0

Would my answer be 8=0 or t②-4=0? I didn't want to divide it by 8t because then wouldn't it multiply 4t? if you try to check if it's correct? I NEED HELP! \: I really like this video, it helped me a lot. I just need this question to be answered. Oh and ② mean squared.

Best to just stick with the method most familiar and comprehensive to you, that will make things a lot smoother, don't get confused with factoring.

@multiblade77 You first multiply the terms to x^2 - x - 2 = 4 then subtract 4 from both sides to form x^2 - x - 6 = 0. If you factor that you get (x-3)(x+2) = 0. Then just continue like in the video.

Ahhh right so at the end of equation 1 all you did was like made sure they add to give -2 and mult to give -24. And then if x-6 =0 x must be 6. just simple subtraction then at the end ? Definite thumbs up , thanks!

when it is -6 and +4 above it.

We've found out that

x - 6 = 0 or x + 4 = 0

but we want to find what x is.

So to find x with x - 6 = 0, you add 6 to both sides to give x = 6

with x + 4 = 0, you take away 4 from both sides to give x = - 4

@jeysan1000 he times it out, so (x-2)(x+1)=4 ignore the =4 he times the first x in the first bracket by the first number or variable in the second bracket then after he did the next variable or number in that same bracket, so x times x is x^2 then x times 1 is x. then he did the same for the -2 so -2x and -2 then you just add it so we have x^2 + x -2x -2 which turns into x^2 - x -2 = 4

either (2t-3) or (3t-2) must equal 0 as he explained before so then you would have:

2t-3=0 and

3t-2=0, simplify those to get two answers

t = 1.5 (for 2t -3) or

t = two thirds (for 3t-2)
