  • I love this film!

  • chico's flicking is even tougher than it looks

  • chico marx was incredible with the piano.. I mean really, he's having fun doing all of that, and it sounds great and not like complete garbage.

Why isnt music like this anymore..

  • my dad th ought monty python was strange but loved the marx brothers. these guys pretty darn weird themselves, hee hee

  • My mother is not a Marx Brothers fan but she always wanted to learn how to play the piano like Chico.

  • daaamn.... It looks so frickin easy, yet SO F*CKIN HARD!!

  • When I was seven, my mother made me take piano lessons. I used to hate them. Now, if she'd shown me Chico for inspiration and the piano teacher taught me to play like him, maybe I'd be able to play the piano today. Any kid with musical talent needs to be parked in front of these Chico vids on YouTube!

  • They were absolute geniuses. To play like this is clever, but to make it look effortless and to be so accurate is GENIUS. Thank God for The Marx Brothers.

  • @gillwilkinsongw You're an idiot, do not ever abuse the english language by saying genius, clever, brilliant, witty, etc to every single comedian and person, as it only shows your infinite ignorance.

  • @Mysteriousone11 I am obviously older than you and if you can't say anything nice you ought to just SHUT UP. THE IGNORANCE IS YOURS ALONE OLD CHAP!

  • @gillwilkinsongw That's where you are wrong again, moron, I am not ignorant, I have Aspergers Syndrome, a mild of Aspergers, and those with actual brainpower which you lack greatly, you are beyond hopelessly stupid. You will never succeed at anything, ever, ever. What you mean't to say was he was original, innovative, imaginative, and creative. not to say genius, you moronic imbecile.

  • @Mysteriousone11 Darling you can't hide behind Asperger's to justify spending your sad life putting vitriolic comments on this purely entertainments channel, you need to get out more. What makes you such an authority on everything and everyone anyway? GROW UP!

  • When I was a child and saw this for the first time, I couldn't get over these three guys (later I found out it was four); that my peers dismissed their stuff was pretty snobby; the brothers still crack me up nearly a half-century later.

  • Read somewhere that he possibly could've been the best piano player in the world !

  • I also watch this over and over and try to learn all of his licks.

  • if i had to pick my favorite of chico's solos, i'd pick this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like the next part (if, in fact this is the movie) where Harpo smashes the piano to bits revealing a harp.

  • I was never much into the Marx Brothers until a couple of years ago and watched several of their movies on DVD (which were simply brilliant). I never realized that Chico could play piano (very well I might add). These guys weren't just talented, they were multi-talented! They put to shame most of today's "talent".

  • I found out that the song is 'On the Beach at Bali Bali'

  • just wonderful! who knows the name of the song?

  • I saw this when I was a kid .. a hundred years ago and have never forgotten how utterly fluid the man was. The perfect timing of his fingers coming down on the correct keys fasinated me then and now. Someone sent it to me and it's made my day! Thank you SO much Luz for sharing this. It's going in my, "superb" playlist as well as, "halarious" one. :) Songs

  • very funny!~~~haha~

  • very funny!~~~

  • love the hat

  • What a wonderful human being

  • I still can't get over how brilliant this is. xD

  • Bravo Chicolinni!

  • 0 Dislikes god damn right 0 dislikes!

  • As great as he was, in this one there's some heavy editing, if you closely watch his notework. For instance, at 1:40, there's his famous bass rumble, but his fingers don't match. There's other, less obvious, editing work here too. But, still, I love it. :)

  • Love this!

  • Ugh. What amazes me is that he just BANGS on the piano and a chord comes out. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? :(

  • i@crazyrandom3 Imagine how much he must have practised!!! Amazing!!

  • what is this song called? i really want to learn it!!

  • @sagaguaya24 "On the Beach at Bali Bali."

  • this became my favorite chico moment when bill marx said that this scene said a lot about chico's personality in real life which made me love and admire him even more... oh and because chico never went to rehearsals, he wasn't expecting that flute so that look of suprise he had on his face was real. =)

  • @dragonfly8486 Do you know where he says that, because I love reading or learning about the Marx Brothers and I would love to find out more. :)

  • @theirishbug1990 it's in a website called harpo's place. =)

  • Love Dr John , Jools Holland, Jerry Lee Lewis - etc etc , But Chico Marx as to be thheeeeeeee man

  • damn weird - first now I realise how much he looks like Javier Bardem

  • @ william2jack3 I too thought the same thing until the I saw a video on how to use Chico's technique on YouTube I also did research about how Chico learned piano and so forth and belive that its him

  • My friend doesn't believe he is actually playing the piano. Chico and Harpo were very talented musicans (and Groucho wasn't bad at gutair either).

  • I can play this song.

  • LOVE :)

  • I love how he just bangs on the piano and a chord comes out. :D Amazing. I envy him so much.

  • If anyone has the sheet music or is working on it I will love you forever.

  • Oh, so wonderful! When he plays, you can really see the charm that made him such a notorious hit with the ladies. That devilish Chico!

  • Anyone know of any tutorials or sheet music for this song? If not free, at least something that isn't a $14 copy of the sheets.

  • One of the greatest pianists in the world

  • He's SPECTACULAR!! I could watch this all night!

  • Big hands like Lhevinne and totally relaxed.

  • Hmm they are similar, but I wouldn't talk about 'shame'

  • whats the name of this song???

  • @mr1wimpy "On the Beach at Bali Bali."

  • CLASSIC!~

  • Theirs is impeccable timing honed by years in vaudeville on a live stage! Think Three Stooges!

  • the ending is hilarious! :D

  • Is it weird for a 15 year old girl to like this stuff? If so, I'm guilty as charged.

  • @missymcr3 Me too but I don't care.. ;D

  • What makes watching Chico playing piano so enjoyable -- he's having a good time doing it. Harpo did the same thing playing harp. They were basically very talented musicians who didn't let all the BS of theory get in the way, but rather learned and loved their instruments, and shared that with their audiences.

  • wow. Genial!

  • ATTENTION CETTE VIDEO CONTIENT UN LIEN VERS UN SITE DE RECONTRE NE TELECHRGER PAS

  • Chico and Harpo rocks !

  • What is this song called? The start is Lizst but then it changes, what is that part?

  • @michaeljg107 I've said it before, but I'll gladly say it again: "On the Beach at Bali Bali."

  • @MrHanMi Thank you sir.

  • love this film

  • Gah, Chico is amazing. If I could play like him.. ^^

  • haha what does he keep looking at?

  • @thetwilighthall

A woman - he was a notorious womaniser.

  • @lotus49a And... your point?

  • Anyone know what the intro is? It's from some famous classical piece.

  • @njattack Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrHanMi Thanks!

  • the best song ever. hands down.

  • There is only one word for these guys - GENIIUS...they will never be. copied......They live on today because of the cinema..................

  • Chico!

  • I love how close the harmony is!! It sounds so good!! Lol

  • When he slams the low end of the piano down it's so cool. Many tell me it sounds bad, but with that melody backing it, man it just fits right in. I... LOVE.... IT!

PS: anyone know were I could get the sheet music to this? or at least the name of the song?

  • @WtFPwNCrushenator "On the Beach at Bali Bali."

  • I Love Chico!!!

  • Incomparable talent.

  • I can't stop watching this! I love when he slams the keys with his palm, that's awesome!

I am a Marxist since a month back, Harpo is my favorite brother, but nothing amuses me more than wathing Chico shooting the keys. I have decided to become a piano player now!

  • ABSOLUTE GENIUS !!!!!

  • I'm in love with Chico Marx!!!!

  • @jili515 I love his technique. I also always thought he was hot!

  • @jili515 Me Too!!!

  • He makes it look SO easy! The Marx brothers were masters!

  • It looks easy because he's not playing it live.

  • He played it live in the studio and synced to playback during filming. That's the way it was done at MGM.

  • Actually, Chico wanted to do it live, but the studio wouldn't allow it, because they couldn't get the accoustics right.

Harpo, on the other hand, wanted to record in the studio and then back-synch it in the movies, because he wanted the performance to be perfect. In movies, you can see him apparently playing a piano plate ("A Day at the Races"), a loom ("Go West") and other non-harps, and of course, that's him synching over his actual harp playing.

  • my idol, im not even a pianist, i wonder if i could rival his tricks on a clarinet? i doubt it but il try

  • "Shooting the keys!"

  • Love it, Love it, Love it. I am a Marxist!

  • Where's everybody getting the sheet music from (it doesn't need to be a free site)? Or is everybody just watching and learning?

  • no one can find it anywhere, mate. I share your confusion cos i'd love to learn it too. I can't find it on the internet (i haven't looked around any shops)

  • ha. the only part of this song i can play is that finger flicking bit about half way through. i'd really like to learn the rest of it.

  • I just realised I watch this probably at least twice a day, it just makes me so happy LOL. Utter genius.

  • @zazu2 wow

  • On the Beach at Bali Bali

  • what's the name of this song?

  • You know its not so much of his playing ability that makes him so amazing. It's his ability give hive his hands/fingers a a personality

  • Agreed. Note for note a lot of people can play like him but to play it with the finger tricks is another story. A true legend!

  • his playing ability is bar none,. I have yet to see the natural fluid funny cartoonish playing he displays today,. plus the index finger move,. As a child I found that amazing,.

  • I still find it amazing. All of the Marx Brothers were talented and knew how to entertain.

  • i know the way you feel, except i've taken up piano lerssons just so i can play even a tiny bit like him.

  • I loved this 40 years ago, and it's still just as wonderful now. Thanks :)

  • Probably my favorite tune by him. What a genius.

  • nice

  • I caught this last night on TMC. Just had to bask in his genius once more. Thanks for the upload, buddy.

  • yes sir. i'm only 14, and my girlfriend and i love these guys

  • Its not just that he was a magnificent piano player, it's that he made it look so effortless! Then again, isnt that what being magnificant is all about?

  • amazing. this is my favorite Chico bit and by far the most impressive evidence of his abilities - what a performer! so glad this is on here, i TiVo'd "a day at the races" and had it cued up to this piece just so i could watch it any (and all the) time. thanks for posting!!

  • This is my absolute favourite Chico piano solo!! He's such a showman! Then again, they all were, weren't they?

  • what's the music?

is the whole thing hungarian rhapsody or just the start?

  • Just the beginning is Hungarian Rhapsody. I don't know what the rest is. Lots of tone clusters, for sure!

  • apparently it's On The Beach At Bali Bali, if you wanted to know.

  • thanks!

  • I started renting Marx vids from netflix for the comedy of the brothers until I was absolutely shocked at the talent of Chico and Harpo. Chico played piano...Harpo....piano, harp, flute, guitar...what else?

  • He also is an amazing whistler <3 I love Harpo the most.

  • definitely no cgi nonsense

  • undiscovered talent- this guy should be next to beethoven , bach and brahms.

  • Undiscovered? He was in movies.

  • yes i know -but many people in 2009 have never even heard of him only if they watch late night TCM or something.

  • well who needs the marx brothers when there are true comedic geniuses and extraordinary talents around like Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler

  • those guys cant even sing or play an instrument.

anybody can be will ferrel or adam sandler? you just have to be a good bullshiter

  • what, me a bullshitter? Are you suggesting that Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler aren't geniuses? How about Pauly Shore then, or Vince Vaughn? Just ask any 9-year-old kid, they can tell you who the truly talented are - and they won't be guys not cool enough to be in color.

  • @h0gwartz--you have to be kidding

  • Wait that's sarcasm right?

  • yes, it just bugs me that to see a really great comedian, I have to go back at least 50 years - the guys who pass themselves off as comedians any more are just the guys willing to act like 10-year olds to appeal to real 10-year olds. There's no special talent and no intelligence whatsoever. The only so-called witty lines any of them make involve bodily functions. Thank God for youtube where you can see the Marx Bros, Abbott & Costello, Foster Brooks, Don Rickles, and the rest of them old-timers.

  • Oh good I thought you were being sarcastic I just didn't know for sure. whew!

  • I love he just like points at the keys

  • I think your referring to whats called "shooting" the keys.

  • He makes piano playing seem so easy!!!

  • I just love the phrase, "for the umpteenth gazillionth time" I just had to listen to it with youtubes' Audio Preview.. it made it sound like a famous scientist in a wheel chair read it to me like poetry..

  • He is so amazing ^_^ I wish I could play like him. Every time I watch him play I end up going and practicing on my keyboard for a long time.

  • The pianist and vocalist of Queen, Freddie Mercury, adapted this piece in the album "a night at the opera" under the title of "lazing on a Sunday afternoon" You should listen to it

  • U are damn right.... and Freddi sasy it was written by him. What a shame

  • @luizoak So that's where that song came from...

  • @luizoak Freddie Mercury didn't steal the intro of 'Lazing ....', because though the musicstyle is similar, the pieces don't sound the same. Freddie was inpired by this piece, that's possible. Queen were huge fans of The Marx Brothers,as you can see that they named two of their best albums after The Marx Brothers: A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races. The shame is where you cannot hear the difference between one piece of pinaomusic and the other.

  • @queenandi It sounds like "On The Beach At Bali Bali"

  • @Upcamehill THANX!!!!! I found various versions on Youtube. It doesn't sound like 'On The Beach At Bali Bali'. It IS that song. Thank you for your answer.

  • @queenandi You are welcomed. Glad that I could help.

  • @norik78 <3

  • @norik78 They kinda sound alike in the way that they don't

  • What is this song? I am dying to know, it's probably my favorite piano peice! If anyone has any idea, please point me in the right direction.

  • For the umpteenth gazillionth time, it's "On the Beach at Bali Bali."

  • :D:D:D:D:D i LOVE the marx brothers

  • v funny (look at: how to play piano Chico Marx style

  • Shave and a hair cut

    Two bits!

    Hahaha

  • I Love how her can play with just one finger

  • Rick Wakeman is my favorite keyboard player but Chico is my favorite piano player.

    Go figure.

  • NOW THATS TALENT!!!!!!!!!

  • chico plays like no one else ive ever seen......... true brilliance!!!!!

  • and for good reason: he mostly developed his playing style himself. Though their mother did pay for piano lessons more often then not he didn't go and filled in the gaps on his own.

  • Completely obsessed and all of my friends hate me fore it.

I don't get it! they're extremely talented and funny but barely anybody appreciates them.

  • Get friends that aren't idiots then! ;)

  • @ZzCyuga

They were very talented but do you really think that barely anybody appreciates them? Read the comments on some of the other youtube videos of Chico and you'll see that you are far from alone.

  • I wish my life were like this all the time. I love this so much.

  • Hey Kaqmere. (to there comment below) No dis.But excuse me , you don't have much experience of watching Chico marx not being a pianist?. Forgive but there is loads of material of Chico Marx, funny as ever and not playing the piano at all!

  • which is the name of the music?

  • "On The Beach At Bali Bali".

  • God, WHAT A TALENT!

  • they blow my mind away!!

  • You laugh at Groucho fore his use of words, you admire and envy Chicko fore his talent and charm, and you love Harpo fore his free sperited comidy and amazing ability to play the harp.

  • Como mola Chico Marx, el puto amo del piano

  • Chico Marx was one of the greatest and most entertaining pianists the world will EVER see.

  • What was amazing is that ALL of the brothers were accomplished musicians

  • Chico Marx, Dudley Moore, and Victor Borge are definitely the best (and probably only) humorous pianists on the planet. It's probably more fun to watch Chico if you're a pianist like I am, but I don't have any experience in watching him as not being a pianist

  • me encanta esta cancion

  • so alive

  • Hahah he's awesome!! :)

  • pinch me i'm dreaming

  • On The Benny Hill Show, the Frankenstein monster sings a song to this tune:

"I have been put together rather loosely

And most of me is covered in dirt and dust

If ever I have kids, they'll all be redheads

'Cause my vital parts are showing signs of rust"

  • When he mashes his left hand on he keys it's the more naturally raw and beautiful moment of musicianship I've seen.
