Very true. People are no longer impressed by the middle finger. However they are still shocked when it happens.
The finger is so much more powerful as it has its roots in education and people learn to respect it earlier in their lives. It is a grown up thing to show the finger to the kids. Grown up adults are always somebody's child so they fear the lesson finger.
