FACT Bloodhound ssc has still gone NOWHERE under its own power as it does not exist as a completed vehicle, manufacture of its chassis and parts has ONLY just started this month (jan 2012) so this film is FICTION. The worlds fastest car is Thrust ssc, and It will remain so untill Bloodhound can make two timed runs at over 714 MPH within 1 hour of the car entering the measure mile on the first run.

Considering that at Mach 1 the car will be traveling at 340 m/s and that terminal velocity of water is approximately 22m/s with minimal atomizing, which would either break up the sand or evaporate, neither of which help with the solution. On top of that, it will take a moment for the sand to reset before you can dry it. Which will also take a moment, in the meantime the car is gone.

@GBucksisback your saying sand its not sand its salt and i wouldent do anyhing to the track officals do this stuff..! it takes a hour to repair the track after a super sonic car runs thay use jet engines to dry the salt and scapers and compactors to pack it down, the dry lake fills with water a few times a year it smooths the salt out and compacts it, from what im hearing your not famillure with high speed racing,you seem to be interested in terminal velocity thats not MPH or time,,,!

At the salt flat a car makes a run then the driver and car crew has one hour to prepair the car for the return run the car has to do as good as it did on the frist pass down the track to be a offical time and speed, dureing that hour the track is inspected and repaired as needed, ive only seen this bonnvelle salt flats ive never seen a car run on it but ive seen it on youtube many times but i have been there but it was wenter and the track was closed and wet full of water,

@GBucksisback I've wondered for some time now why they haven't endeavored to make the salt flats "stable" there are many methods much more advanced than simple black top I'm not saying the cost wouldn't be prohibitive but as we move further into these technologies you're right in principle the frontal shock wave would destabilize the ground before the tires passed over (did a little math on the salt flats with data from the terrain) a joint venture btween companies would be ideal.

Of course, one could argue that he rode the fastest JET aircraft, then the fastest scramjet, and so on... But when looking up to what the shuttle or any rocket can do... well... So we turn to land speed records, there's still some "glory" to be had here so, why not? And it's a good testbed for many new technologies, go ahead and push the limits! :)
