I just did a Google search and sure enough, there is a Mexican consulate in Boston and New York city. Little Rock is the Capitol of Arkansas. Why is it so unreasonable for Huckabee to support the opening of a Mexican consulate there? Maybe I'm just missing something.

It's unreasonable because he collaborated with that country to give them yet another beachhead from which to promote and profit from illegal immigration and from which to push their agenda inside the U.S.

It's also unreasonable because of the sweetheart deal he gave them: $1 rent, something that might have broken state law.

Huckabee, realizing that his super soft record on illegal immigration was going to ruin his presidential aspirations, has just come out with a new "get tough" immigration enforcement plan - which gives all illegals 120 days to register and leave the country or face a 10 year ban on entering the U.S.

The question is - will those who register and leave be able to (almost immediately) return to the U.S. legally? If so - this is nothing more than the Kennedy-McCain plan in new dress.

uricehe4: consulates have a useful purpose (and one covered by treaty), but Mexico goes beyond that. Their consuls try to get localities to accept their ID cards which are only of use to illegal aliens, and they pass out those cards to those who are here illegally.

As an example of why that's bad, that lets them open bank accounts, which lets the banks profit from illegal activity. They then donate part of that to politicians, who help the banks make more money. That's political corruption.

I just don't see how, in 2003, he can be expected to forsee what the Mexican consulate would say in 2007. Also, the Mexican consulate can issue statements regardless of where they are located. They would have just the same impact if they were located in Little Rock, Dallas, Phoenix, or Mexico City.

I am in general agreement that illegal immigration should be stopped. But, I think you are incorrect in saying that Huckabee encouraged illegal immigration.
