I love these live clips.I was lucky enough to see him once in a theatre in Michigan with Lucinda Willaims and others.MAN! was that a thrill to see him live! I love Bruce's songs.
@Kennymurraycampbell great track from an excellent album, bruce paints pictures with his lyrics lke few other artists can, on songs like this and Rocket Launcher, plus has a haunting and beautiful voice
I assume most posters and viewers know he wrote most of the songs on Stealing Fire touring Central America comparing US supported military oppression of native people in Guatemala (If I Had a Rocket Launcher), to the remarkable outcome of the Nicaraguan revolution, ignited by then dictator Somoza pocketing relief money for an earthquake into a Swiss bank account.
I met the mother of our two children at a fundraiser for her trip to Nicaragua to build a school in 1988.
brianl1890 "Smiling girl directing traffic flow. .45 strapped over cotton print dress. Marimba brown and graceful limbs, give me a moment of loneliness" it just doesn't get any better than that!
Smiling girl directing traffic flow. .45 strapped over cotton print dress. Marimba brown and graceful limbs, give me a moment of loneliness. Bruce IS a lyricist approaching perfection.
@GBlazer420 I was turned on to Neil and Joni by friends, thank God, I first saw Bruce wishing he had a rocket-launcher on Mtv...NOW someone needs to take a rocket-launcher to Mtv ; )...still listen to this great album 26 years later...every song a gem ; )..btw the way, have you been turned on to Freedy Johnston's "This Perfect World" ? Fantastic album also..
@roberttheman47 I rode my motorcycle to Nigara falls and into Oakville from Knoxville, very beautiful in the summer..can't imagine life there in the winter..in life we should be like a moving target, huh?..hard to pin down ; ) .."What about Bob?" .."Last time I heard he was in the Florida Keys.." ; )..btw they say Switzerland is the best country in the world, can't imagine life there in the winter ; )
Love this live version so much, saw him play it on his tour last year. Thanks for posting it, it's too bad it's cut short though. Anyone know where a similar live version, uncut, might be? Thanks
Bruce Cockburn is a truly great talent. His disc "Stealing Fire'' is one of the best ever. I admire his music and I admire the man. His music touches the soul.
One of my favorite songs by him. The imagery is incredible. Almost feels like you are there. And the melody is simply beautiful. :)

... too bad that it is over after 3 minutes!
His concerts are always great!
@celloprofundo: at least this canadian makes the best music ;-)
The last concert of Bruce I saw was in 1996, I cannot believe it......

I love this version. The guitar gives it such a lonely feel, like you are driving, looking at the road in the headlights.

Yes, that is such a beautiful line. Filled with such imagery and emotion. "Pride and passion and love and fear
Burning hearts burning boats of the past" is also a power moment in this song but is missing from this vid.

Maria of the brown & graceful limbs, give me a moment of lonliness." Beautiful lyricist.

Yes, beautiful, but it's even better as "Marimba-brown and graceful limbs..."
HumboldtMike 3 years ago
Sorry to nitpick, but that's one of my favorite lines ever.

I've always heard it as "Her limber brown and graceful limbs.."

I used to think Joni Mitchell said "better than alive" in Free Man in Paris. They both work both ways... cool
"Unfettered and Alive"

Seems Canadians make the best music, Neil Young, Joni, Bruce..must be the long winter nights that go on forever...might as well write a song.
