Prince is the ONLY one of any act where he isn't a hasbeen... watch old clips of Prince from the early 1980's and he is BETTER now! In the past he would want to please so much he would overthink moments as he was playing ( a little) NOW he is relaxed and plays better! NOW everyone else, all the other "superstars" they pretty much sucked in their older career. Prince is the ONLY one that is better now, most peak in their 20's - early 30's... but are overrated and living off their past names.
Prince can still cut it live but as a recording artist these days he is utterly insignificant & irrelevant - he hasn't released a great album since Sign of The Times and that was 25 years ago! It is like he lost a heck of a lot of creativity or originality or now just can't be bothered, he has better songs in the vaults than the Shite he is releasing lately. Other than die hard fans, nobody pays any attention to the crap albums he brings out.
As Prince assumes possession of his work(Copyrights/Publishing), he will gradually re-record and re-release everything; that process should begin by Spring 2013 and continue past 2029... We've an entertaining future ahead...
@AutumnExplore If you don't mind me asking..Where did you get this information from? I don't see Prine Re-recording ALL of his material that was released. That is so much material. lol
@DemonstrativeRanD Prince once said in an interview that he was re-recording his old stuff(then he puts it in his "vault"). I think that was in the 1990s. But he won't re-release any of it until he has full control of Copyright and Publishing. In accordance with the Copyright Act of 1976, he can reclaim full ownership of his material after 35 years. So his 1978 work can be his in 2013; his 1979 work in 2014; his 1980 work in 2015 etc. Prince will do what he wants what Prince wants to do...
@AutumnExplore - And he'll change the lyrics to reflect this thinking these days. Can't imagine him keeping "Sister", "Darling Nikki", etc in its "original state".
I love Prince, but honestly...if he's gonna change it all, don't bother.
@smoothpants There's an important element to changing a song that many people don't understand... Prince can re-release any and all of his work in any form as far as I'm concerned. Does it bother anyone else that this hard working musical wizard is virtually ignored and forgotten? The musical genius of our time will re-emerge as he wants, when he wants; that's a nice way to live.
@AutumnExplore - I don't think he's ignored and forgotten. I think that lesser talents are getting more attention.
And what you say is indeed true, and I respect that. Maybe I should not have said "don't bother"...but rather "I won't bother". And that simply means that I prefer to remember the way one of his jewels was originally presented, and not a re-imagination or new interpretation. I rather hear that in concert.
@smoothpants Prince is somewhat ignored and forgotten. When Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, U2, and too many others tour, the media is all over them. Yet Prince is still in his prime; he is ageless, and he is better than everyone else.
You're right that remakes are usually lousy. But Prince has a way of re-imagining songs, and re-recording them while keeping them tight. As long as the originals always exist, new versions can't weaken them anyway.

THIS IS JUST MY JAM! He slammed in these performances! That guitar gives me so many OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES. Where does this guy come from? Seriously? This is indeed one of the worlds talented artists! He does all of this so effortlessly!
He's having a ball !!Out of all of his great performances, this festival at Montreux may be his best! One of the best of performers of all time ,maybe the best!
@mmjaljs - Agreed, playa, and I didn't compare. I should have said best performer of my time cuzz I don't know the age range of everybody. I love Jimi, period. Peace.
@TheJPM2000 -I love all three of those guys, but I don't think you're responding to my comment. I said he is the best all around 'performer', not guitarist. Though, I would place him on my list of great guitarist.
This is the happiest 7:22 I've had all day!

Comparing Jimi to Prince is like comparing Babe Ruth to Willie mays. Do you want someone who can do every thing or just hit home runs?
