Good playing of the guitar by the maestro Jean Bosco. There is another guitar player and singer bearing the name Jean Bosco. Copy the following key words and paste them on the youtube space for typing what to look for. The press the enter key to see him play. Are they related? Could this be the son of Jean Bosco Mwenda wa Bayeke?
The video title seems a bit misleading. I wouldn't exactly call 1982 "early" when alluding to the chronology of African guitare, let alone the Congolese guitare. What about guitar virtuosi the likes of Franco Luambo and Dr. Nico? I believe "early" goes as far back as the 1950's if not further back.
@duggh The videos on this dvd are from as early as 1966, so it's not AS misleading as it seems :) And guitar recordings have been around since at least the 1920s in Africa.
@mouneeray Nope this is definitely 1982 and a whole 22 track recording is available for download along with a booklet and lyrics. Gerhard Kubik recorded this and a live performance.
He was much appreciated both by Congolese and Europeans in our former Belgian Congo ! Great singer and beautiful melodies! He died in a car crash on the road to Zambia not far away from Kasumbalesa in the 90s
I don't think guitar tabs exist for Jean Bosco Mwenda's music, but a few scores (traditional style) were written out by hand and published in a study of Mwenda's music written by David RyCroft titled "The Guitar Improvisations of Mwenda Jean Bosco." I came across the book in a music library a few years ago and wish I had learned the pieces then. That's all I have from memory. You might find publishing date and other info. on line.
Belle époque ! Pauvre Congo d'aujourd'hui ! Pauvres Congolais d'aujourd'hui!
wa bayeke... g jamais pense que ca me ferait autant plaisir d'entendre cette chanson... on se marrait tellement kan elles passaient a la radio a Lubumbashi... LOL
Is this the real Bosco or somebody else?

@steveSonko That's the real guy; Jean-Bosco Mwenda wa Bayeke. Unfortunately, he died in an auto accident.

@duggh Actually, this video could have been taken closer to 1990 than to 1982.
