they kept the tempo the same, trombones can't keep up with that, and even virtuosic (master, i think) players would have a hard time, but kudos for the effort
@ZendeghiBahal: I think I'll never understand this argument. Do you need to be a cook to say whether a dish tastes bad? A writer to claim that the book you've just read was terrible? The piece on the vid sounds like shit, no need to play the trombone to tell it. Perhaps this is a difficult piece, perhaps the trombone is difficult to play, but the goal, when you play music, is not to give bad interpretations of difficult pieces.
@nonous42 : My point is that negative destructive criticism is pointless, and people would be better served to quit armchair quarterbacking and go practice themselves. Let me say it this way: if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. these guys are doing the best they can and enjoying themselves while at it. THAT is the point of making music.
WOW.... wayyyyyy rushed. it's not a race. it's a fugue. and a poorly played one in this case. bach wouldn't be offended if you slowed down a little bit...
@fallingphoenix14 "Fugue" is not an indicator of tempo, it is a musical form. Bach was renowned for his keyboard technique and for showing off said technique. It is safe to say that the father of western music also would not be offended by the dazzling technical prowess of these players as they play it at a faster tempo than is traditionally heard
@STRON2AM you are not very intelligent, are you? i never said fugue dictated a specific tempo.... i just said this was a musical performance, not a track meet. thanks for the history lesson, but i'd suggest learning how to correctly read and understand a comment before launching into your next one. moron.
@fallingphoenix14 Come on, now. We can disagree without devolving into personal attacks. I understand your comment as written perfectly fine. I AM intelligent and am studying the trombone completely covered under academic and musical scholarships. I know what I'm talking about and my opinion is as valid as yours if not more so because I am not a brittle dickhead
@STRON2AM, academic AND musical scholarships?! no way! let me know when you have a free day (since i KNOW musical studies HAS to be one of the most demanding majors, right along with biochemical engineering and pre-medical studies) so i can throw you a parade!!11!
@fallingphoenix14 Why would you argue with me on this? Even if majoring in music was a walk in the park, which I assure you it is not, it wouldn't matter because it would still make me more of an authority on MUSIC than a biochem major. This isn't a video on mitosis we're watching here, it's a trombone quartet.

Diciamo che si può apprezzare il coraggio di esporsi ad un pubblico sapendo di suonare in questo modo..l'idea di un metronomo ed un accordatore vi fa schifo??
I agree...very few fugues are meant to be played on trombones, especially any with this sort of complexity. They have very good tone quality (despite the quality of the video), but they should slow way down and actually be able to play the song correctly 100% before working on the speed. The soloist near the beginning kinda made me cringe a bit, until they picked up when the the third part came in.
Cada uno va por su lado, parece que solo les interesa que salgan las notas, pero la expresividad, matices.....¿donde estan?, y como decían en un comentario, si es un ensemble es para que se escuche conjunto, no 4 individuales
Yea that was pretty sloppy, and being Trombones is no excuse, If Four Trombones can play Toccata y Fugue then its very very possible to play this flawless.
pues........... tienen sonido muy vacano para que peroooo.... no siento ensable, cada uno toca por su lado... pero suena muy bien el color de los trombones...
Way to go for the up tempo effect. I'm glad to see someone had the balls to talk it up tempo, yeah there are mistakes but I'm sure you know about them better than I do. Very nicely done.
Very nice trill at 1:45, and excellent ending. Never mind what people are saying about your tempo, this is just about up to speed with the correct organ tempo and you played it well anyway. Just remember that when playing in quartets like this you need to watch your high notes extremely carefully because they tend to stick out twice as much as bass (mainly directed at the descending sixteenths at 2:42). Overall, great job and keep practicing!
this piece is hard enough as a brass quintet, why you decided to do it as a trombone quartet is beyond me. It's too fast! on a good day, you should play 2/3 this speed for accuracy and definition of tone.
God why the hell is everybody trashing these players? They played it how they wanted to, they interpreted the piece how they wanted to interpret it.

The sound's OK...
But LISTEN TO EACH OTHER, and calm down.
You look like you wanted to get out the stage.

the extreme trombone quartet ppl pulled off toccata and fugue quite well though so its not like it isn't doable. just not for them in some parts

If done on Baritone or French horn it would be automatically cleaner. How do you do a trill on a Trombone????
petie32 3 years ago
You either use the trigger, or you can use your lips, which sounds better but is much harder to clean up.

Amazing effort! It's hard enough in any other brass setting but trying it on trombone is a paramount challenge!
Sloppy yes but given the difficulty which I would attribute to playing it up to tempo it was definitely a great show of skill!
