I hate it how people always try to make out the this was between the scots and the english there was people from both countries on both sides and most of the Hanovarian soldiers were Scottish
Very nicely made, amusing, the small lapsus with the king's brother, not realy counting. But witchhunter's comment with 5000 Englishmen....., nonsense. Charles never intended to become a prince or king of scotland, he wanted the full reward, a Stuart Great Britain. For the ordinary Scottish this would have made little difference, the later clearences are no whigish program. He used them as cannon fodder, promising large French and English Jacobite forces. Very few came and Scots paid the price.
Charles lied to the Jacobites in order to get them to invade England. All Charles was interested in was his own personal ambitions. He lied to them by telling them English Jacobites were waiting on them over the border but when they crossed the border they found out they had been lied to by Charles. They hastily retreated northward to Culloden moor where Charles then sent thousands of men to a certain death before running away home to Rome.
Rather a loose and inaccurate accounting, though admittedly intended to be brief. For one, Duke of Cumberland was not George II's brother, he was his son.
