Thanks for uploading this but at first glance, I thought the guy was pooping. Then I thought that can't be right, because nobody could look so sad when pooping. :D
I've completely reevaluated my understanding of the origins of ginger hair genotype. Thanks guys for clearing it up. Now that I look at it, it's obvious.
Good morning everyone, I'm an Italian citizen. I am passionate about Nordic culture, I spent part of my holiday to Oslo to visit the city. Oslo is a city without a Norwegian, is full of North African people who dirty the streets, get drunk, making Oslo a city squalid and unsafe. I am very saddened by your situation. greetings from italy
@misslilila growing up in MN, one is smothered in learning about the vikings...in fact I remember being taught more about them then I did the native tribes from MN.
@yurismir1 well there are not many, but there are some. Most common here is blonde hair. Least common is black and red hair, but you see it from time to time.
Red hair is far more common in Iceland, because the norwegian settlers there often ended up taking women from Scotland and Ireland.
@Vikingskog I think the Nordic countries probably have one of the highest percentages of redheads. It still may not be high, but I bet it's one of the highest.
@yurismir1 yea, but thats because red heads almost just exist in the british isles and in Scandinavia, and probably a few in the other germanic countries.
@Vikingskog There are redheads in Serbia too. :D All slavic nations have redheads, but not as Scandinavia and the British Isles. There is also a belief in slavic mythology that redheads have the most chance to become vampires after death.
@Vikingskog MC1R gene code has been seen on all continents, I am of Norwegian blood and have reddish brown hair and a red beard...but that said, south america, asia etc have seen this recessive gene pop up. Likely it is seen more with the brits, scands and slavs because there were high concentrations able to breed together making carriers of the gene.
To add about the comparisons. The dialect is close to S parts of Norway, with a spicy dash of danish. The way "ekteskabet" and "nau(d)" is pronounced southern norwegian dialects with danish influence sticks out. But the song is supposed to come from Hemsedal in the middle of Norway.
@Thorskald I am so sorry for this unhappy and lonly person - the hero of the song... How is it possible to live, if you think in a negative way about everything?
@Heartbar234 I know the original lyrics. My translation is not based on simply replacing word by word as you noticed. I translated based on context, as it is often more correct regarding communication as way of exchanging information. E hu gammalj kanj hu dau - Says more than people die of old age. Something we all are destined to. Young women represent all things men cherish in life, where this mysterious and spellbinding "glow" fades with age.
@Heartbar234 The same goes for - E hu ung, så e hu utro/If she's young, she's cheating. Using the word cheating simply cause something essential to be lost in translation. Not only is unfaithful the correct direct translation, although it matters little. The point is not that young women cheat. It is that young women have the glow that attracts men. He is not negative towards marriage and women. Why make a song, or sing, about fears of loosing something not wanting. ;)
If you've seen the new(er) Beowulf and Grendel movie, it sounds like the chants that the Gothi sings over the body of one of Hrothgar's dead warriors.
Thanks for uploading this but at first glance, I thought the guy was pooping. Then I thought that can't be right, because nobody could look so sad when pooping. :D

@marsglorious The genotype for redhair originated in the Nordic countries. Vikings raided and mixed with Celts, hence the redheaded Irish and Scots.

I will never give myself away, and into marriage go.
It is not easy to find one you can trust.
Is she rich she is selfcentered, is she poor she is inn it because of need.
If she is young she wants adventures, if she is to old her glow is gone.
Some things are lost in translation. But the song is more about the fear of finding love and loose it, than not wanting it at all.
