I saw the exact same thing when I was in school! I think it is so stupid that people actually will do that. It doesn't help with young girl's perception of themselves. Sometimes the computer can be a curse when you can edit almost anything to your own will.

Look at the statistics, you'll see the legs of the female models are lengthened by 30%... I think THIS is an extreme use of Photoshop or other softwares, studies show that mannequins in clothing stores do NOT have human proportions... No wonder people get crazy when they look at themselves in the mirror.

I think this is a false statement I myself have worked at some sets and you wouldn't believe how much make up changes those models. It happened that one of them came in and the photographer asked who she was she said the model. Honestly nobody thought that she would look good at all. But hey after 1 and a half hours of Make up and another 2 hours of photoshop the job was done. And it is cheaper than "real" models

How is paying make-up artists, and photoshop techs cheaper than just getting one beautiful girl cause I'm sure there are plenty willing to model. Not trying to be rude but you can go to a college campus and just find a beautiful girl and like I said most would probably work for less than you would end up paying a team of make-up artists and people to photoshop.

...because no one looks like that in real life. In a high resolution picture, EVERYONE has skin flaws. Models don't get shot with point and shoot cameras. They get shot with Medium format and sometimes larger cameras which reveals all 'human' imperfections loud and clear. The more perfect someone appears, the more they sell magazines. If you buy magazines with models on the covers, you're (and I am not personally acusing you) guilty of supporting this industry.

This is one of the best examples I've seen of this. It happens in movies as well with body doubles and tricks of photography. Perfection doesn't exist. Celebrate the real!

I think this is an extreme case of photoshop; but, nevertheless, the point reads loud and clear in Dove's message. Distortion of Beauty has been going on for sometime-since airbrushing-look at Marilyn Monroe who was noted as the most beautiful woman. She had plastic surgeries-noted: rhinoplasty and going bald from the harsh bleaching process. But, it was her job as a famous actress to go to extreme measures. She took that role on because she wanted it.

This is just so normal whats the big friggin deal? This has been going on since photography was born. Stop thinking that this is real and photography is so sacrosanct and truthful... it's NOT. It's a bit more faithful than traditional rendering techniques like paint, pencil or sculpture but don't be so naive. Lighting, makeup, wardrobe, posing (even smiling) and now photoshop wow big secret stuff!

The reason that they did this commercial is because so many women in America have negative attitudes about their bodies because our society tells them that they are supposed to look a certain way. When people tell you that all the time, you begin to believe it. There are so many commercials about weight loss, anti-aging creams, etc. The number of eating disorders increase in countries that are exposed to American media. People are so brainwashed they don't even know what's normal anymore.
