I want a high quality version. Here's my plan...

1)Take all the electronics out of the plushie

2)locate the speaker and detach it by soldering it off the main board.

3)Take apart a microphone, detach the microphone wires from the output board and solder the wires from the speaker in place.

4) Get Audacity, tell it to start recording, and get a crystal clear audio sample!

This is just a idea. I'm sure you could extract the memory microchip and make it a USB device, but..

... Should I do this?

That's exactly what I did. There was only one speaker in the plushie so the sound was mono. I guess we'll have to wait for the official version to come out for a high quality version.

It is part of the extended theme. The most Ingram has said about the theme is a possible re-recording/re-mixing of the existing theme song.

i'm pretty sure the pitch of the recording could be toned a bit deeper, i'd say that'd fix the odd sounding voice and it would fit closer to the original theme.

It sounds as if this is (part of) the mystical and missing first part that was mentioned elsewhere. Hasbro has a full version of the opening that runs about two minutes apparently. At the end of this clip it starts into the second half which is used in the show, but after "until you all shared its magic with me." it's been edited to end gracefully.

OMG! The extended intro just gave me an idea for a new intro to season two. It's little filly Twilight walking along, singing to the audience, while the background gradually changes...starting with her parents, then Celestia, then the academy, then running the Canterlot library, then moving to Ponyville, and finally hanging out with her friends...all while Twilight gradually gets older, going from filly to teen to young adult and finally young mare in her early 20's.

This could very well be Shannon Chan-Kent singing (Pinkie Pie's singing voice) rather than Tara Strong. As noted on Equestria Daily, Shannon had sung an earlier demo of the MLP theme song; perhaps this was another variant.

@PedanticPig They had to compress the sound to a low bit rate and to sound half way decent on a small and cheap interna microphone. Thus why it sounds off.
