@12ZELDALINK: I'm afraid I didn't make the music itself. Just wired the circuits for the lights, coded a program to control them, and made all the timings for the lights to turn on/off.

I couldn't find the source of the music. Even though I could find several videos which used it, no-one credited the artist, and I'm ashamed to say that I've become one of those people, but not by my own choice, if it's of any consolation.

Cool stuff! Would you mind going into what hardware you used a bit? I'm working on making a room lighting system with high output LEDs, and an Arduino driving a few TLC5940 chips... in theory it should be able to do something like this, though I'm going more for straight-up programmable room lighting. Also a Touhou fan though, so this is awesome...

@dojomojomofo : The bulbs are LED-based (21 LEDs each). They have built-in regulators and run on 12V and are 2W each (except for the yellow bulbs, which are 1.8W), so they take ~166 mA. They're switched by 2N4400 transistors (because they were easy for me to find, and I'm not good with electronics), with their bases connected through resistors to the data pins on my computer's parallel port. It's this simple.

I sometimes switch to using a board I have called an SSC-32 (serial servo ...

It doesn't switch faster than 30 milliseconds reliably, because it's not meant for this purpose, but when I first made the lights, that was all I had. (My netbook doesn't have an LPT port, and I needed something portable.) I do have an Arduino now, so making a sketch which can switch the lights at a decent speed sounds like a good idea.

If you have an Arduino, the TLC5940 is neat - they sink upward of 100mA per each of 16 pins, and you can use one resistor to set the max current. They will dim each light to 4096 levels, and can be easily chained together to drive more lights. I'm doing RGB x 16...
