  • Nice video. I grew up in a religious home, and practically lived in the church. Sunday school was not Sunday School it was Sunday fool. Everything was not tough about the Bible, so I learned later about all the killing God had done. Older, I realized that the stories started to sound crazy. After going through life changes it caused me to start thinking clearly. I wonder should I call myself a Atheist or a Black Atheist. I never learned colors differences between people, We are all the same.

  • I am a black atheist and I am extremely frustrated that we believe the things we believe.....it is difficult to see my parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, believe that they talk to a invisible person everyday....when I told my mom I was a atheist...she responded by asking me "why do you worship the devil"......im ashamed to say it but most of us are very ignorant to many things in the world......

  • @tryingtomakeachange Are you in my family? lol That makes me depressed as well. When I finally decide to tell them, I'm going to be "that" person at family reunions. The one that sticks out. The one they'll "pray for". Bad enough that I like anime and speak like a suburban white person (and I'm sure you know what I mean by that) and am getting dreadlocks soon, but I'm also Atheist and think I might be bisexual which of course is a BIG DEAL. -_- I wish we were a more progressive family.

  • I am a black atheist and it has been one of the greatest choice I've made so far in my young life. It's probably gonna be difficult when I tell my family this and those that I meet later on in life...like being an urban black youth isn't a big enough problem as it is.

  • What I also find very interesting is ,you would think that a very religious black community in America would have the lowest crime rate towards each other. You would also think it would reflect that in rap music.(not all music). It looks very insane to me when I see religious people of any race listening to violent lyrics.I laugh at people who tell me they are a Christian, when they are listening to that kind of music. Then they tell jesus loves you.lOl

  • I won't sacrifice my integrity to please the masses - amen to that bro

  • 7olusegun- You are absolutely right. Jesus, God and The Holy Spirit are one. They are your living breathing masters. They are as real as the fingers on your hand. They are absolutely tangible and real. Because ink on paper in a book says so. Jesus wants you to stop thinking. He wants you to stop using your brain independently. He wants you to become a human vegetable and just sit there praying to him 23 hours a day. You must do this. Jesus commands you!

  • Stop It!

  • Thanks for videos like this. As a black, female atheist I don't feel as if there is a "community" where we can feel accepted w/o professing love for "sweet jesus". I guess slavery has permanently embedded in us a need to serve a master.

  • I'm down for any church service that involves fried chicken...

  • is it me or white athiest's dont have a raciest bone in them...

  • its just you

  • @nastyblock people who can reason and those who generally accept what nature does, don't have any reason to be racists...

  • hooray 4 black atheists!

    =0D

  • As an agnostic of African descent I can say without reservation the Black Church is home!!!!

  • black atheist here too, just became one after reading the so called good book the bible

  • it condones slavery(it was used in the enslavement of people of my skin color), murder, genocide, infancide, tribalisim, human sacrifice.. i could go on but i won't

  • @7olusegun God made a tree in the Garden of Eden that had the knowledge of good and evil and warned Adam not to eat of the fruit. Now, if it was not his intention for man to be sinners and evil than why did he create this tree and allow Adam and Eve access? It makes no sense at all. If he had never put that tree there he could have saved himself the trouble of turning into Jesus and killing himself.

  • @CainmosniMirrored It makes no sense to you b'cos you aint of God. God allowed satan to plant a tree in the garden of Eden to demonstrate He is all knowing; the end from the beginning (& vice versa). He allowed that that He would use it to punish satan (& his evil demonic entourage) into hell forever b'cos of his rebellion & insurrection against God. God knew long before creation that Adam & Eve will sin against Him, & He provided a way out long before this event occurred. Are you clear?

  • @7olusegun Satan didn't plant the Tree. God made the Tree. Freewill can't exist with an all knowing being, can we go outside his knowledge and make a choice? You're admitting in so many words that God planned all of this beforehand and didn't care to change it before it happened, good, most theists don't admit that. One question, an engineer beforehand knew he was going to build a robort made to destory and he made the robot according to his knowledge, who do you blame for the robot's actions?

  • @7olusegun And before you try to say "we aren't robots" and ignore the freewill contradiction, read Romans 8:29-30 and Romans 9:11-22, it's in your Bible. You gotta believe it.

  • You guys are awesome......great video.

    Black agnostic.

  • I'm black. well really a Mix guy.

lol but anyway, Its hard telling people I'm atheist especially amongst black people. I'm look as a bad guy.

  • That was depressing... I'm a black atheist

  • ON THE MONEY!!!! I myself wandered off ever since I was old enough to read a book! Not and athiest tho...but I can respect anyone who breaks the chains where ever their life journey leads

  • I agree!

  • In a way, if you're black (or any colour for that matter), coming out as gay is probably easier than coming out as an Atheist. If you're gay then I guess theists around you will think that on some level, you can be saved through the power of the "Buy-bull". But if you're an atheist, there is no salvation for you, it's the end. For the record, I'm disgusted by alot of black theists, it's like they're trading one form of slavery for another, I call it "mind-slavery".

  • I'm a black atheist, lesbian, and I been playing electric guitar( so-called nontraditional instrument for a female back in the day) for 48 years, and former minister. You talkin' about discrimination.

  • I'm black too so...

  • @phoenixbrew lol

    heardat

  • Finally, African Americans are "coming out" of the atheist closet. I am glad to know people are coming out and sharing. Its hard for me personally to support a system that controls people and damns others...

  • A very cool interview! ★★★★★

  • I just wanted to point out that in any tight knit community, no matter what race it consists of, church is also what the community is centered around. This creates social pressures for any person that does not subscribe to Christianity, also family pressures from a family that has alway and wants to always be considered part of that normality. This is a problem for any Atheist in this position. I liked the point made, but I also wanted to point out that it is not specific to one race only.

  • I tend to agree, But among Blacks you have to consider that a church could exist in Black communities during slavery even when the family was essentially impossible. Then consider the absence of civil liberties until a mere 40 years ago, and you can see why the church has even greater dominance in Black communities.

  • This video is very inspirational, especially to me. thank you very much for this vid!

  • i'm not african american in the sense that my ancestors experienced slavery and my previous generation grew up here. I'm actually 100 percent african and atheist, but many people find it astonishig that i'm not as religious as the "typical" african.

  • Very insightful. Thank you so much for sharing. When I was a Christian, I had an invite to attend services by a neighbor friend. I walked in the church and everyone turned. I asked her why. She told me I was the first white person in the history of that old southern church to ever walk through the door. We all had a wonderful lunch afterwards.
