If you find that your computer is heating up too much, go to Advanced -> Preferences... -> and change use at most 100% CPU time to use at most 25% CPU time.
Your computer will automatically process the tasks downloaded via the program. Doing this collectively between many thousands of people can begin to equal (and easily exceed if there was enough interest) the worlds fastest supercomputers in processing power.
As for the tasks themselves, they are dependent on the project itself. AQUA is dedicated to Quantum Computing research. I'm not sure of the specifics but they list it on their webpage.
@Destm157 it downloads new tasks automatically in advance of them completing (so it always has something to do) and submits the completed tasks automatically for you. Once it's installed you don't have to do anything, except get addicted to checking the stats every day to see how close team TZM is to becoming the top BOINC Team of all time! Stats links in the description :)

@geox555 are you still getting the error? It could be that the server was temporarily down when you tried to connect to the project.
