No it isn't. I used to push mongo and now I don't. Pushing correctly DOES improve balance once ur used 2 it but more importantly it allows u 2 push faster and u can get into ur normal stance faster.

ok to add on to the foot positions he stated there are three others for a total six :regular, goofy, mongo, switch( im regular so in this position id be goofy),fakie (rolling backwards), nollie essential a switch fakie but ur faceing the direction ur going) hope this helps build the knowledge for beginners

And I learned that you push with ur feet parallel to the board and the you adjust your feet so that they are sideways like the trucks. This way, you will be able to make turns.
