  • fucking love this game. 1st time i injured someone, i thought it was the best thing ever XD. and i was playing it last night on my megadrive :D

  • I started a fan page for Dan Malone (the artist on this game) on facebook recently, and via various links and posts I managed to contact Dan himself to talk to him about it, he was very touched his work was still loved...I mean, his work is classic! He even started to upload concept sketches from The Chaos Engine and also the original arena design for Speedball 2.

Search for The Incredible Art Of Dan Malone on facebook

  • @lordnipple Already a fan, thanks. =)

  • I was addicted to this game as a kid. I beat Steel Fury 999-0 (game wouldn't let me score anymore) and got over 700 points in the league. Epic days...

  • I remember mail-ordering this game and I got the check back instead...was probably out of stock at the time. That said I never got to actually play it, just the 1st one on some friend's PC...

  • This game is bad ass!

  • That tune is so catchy....

  • I destroyed 3 joysticks playing this game. Epic.

  • This looks a lot cleaner than the Playstation version, which I have. That version's playing surfaces were too dark at times.

  • @uofm97 The Greatest Speedball 2 Game ever would be the customization of the PSX version with the graphics and sound of the Amiga version. Sadly, the Bitmap Brothers did not take the chance to do just that on the XBLA version of the game , and now, looks like Speedball 2 is lost forever. =\

  • @ShiryuGL I think there should be a Speedball game for the newer consoles. I the graphics capabilities on the PS3 and XBox 360 would make for a pretty killer update. What do you think?

  • @uofm97 I would love to see the game hit DS or Wii, but we must be careful with HD ports. As you can see from the PSX version, the games doesn't really work as fluid in 3D. Thus, I think it's best to remake this using sprites. sadly, I think this will never happen now, with all focus now being on the Speedall II PC game based on the Unreal Engine. It's good, but not as good as this original. =\

  • played this to death on my Amiga

  • the best game on the amiga! james and gazza were immense!.... fatal justice were a tough team to beat when promoted

  • LOL WUT

you got scored on by REVOLVER!?

  • I can remember beating revolver like 215 - 5. They sucked

  • Go robocops go!!!

  • xD!!!

  • Used to play this game day in day out with my friend, old skool stuff this ! Just like m.u.d.s. If I could only have this on my PS3 now ....

  • Fuck i loved playing this game as a kid I just bought it on ebay for 10bucks cant wait to play it

  • He injured 2 players. Very nice.

  • Very, very good game. Best futuristic sports game I've ever played, with Deathrow as a reasonable second.

  • Brilliant game

  • Old skool classic!

  • omg you really suck at the game...

    :)

    but thanks for the upload

  • what not a single cry of "Ice Cream Ice Cream"?

  • Speedball II and Chaos Engine some of my favorite games from the period :D

  • That takes me back to when I really enjoyed computer games.

  • You need to pass the ball more often. Sticking to the ball and running around will get the player tackled (and wounded) sooner or later.

  • the game is just beatiful...i was playin it on a mobile phone....graet game

  • Still truly a great game. Whomever was playing that mach did pretty much exactly the same stuff that i used to do.

I played the PS1 version many moons ago and you didnt even have to score golas in it, it was so easy to do default injury wins.

  • Yeea I remember a few teams: Brutal Deluxe, Revolver, Baroque, Steel Furry...

This game was a big fun :D

  • And the Fatal Justice, the best team of the game (hard to defeat)

  • Yeah, they were in 1st Division

  • Reminds me of Rokkitball, one of our freee games on instantaction

  • played this on megadrive, it was awesomely addictive

  • after soccer this will be the main sport of the future!

  • Speedball? Isn't that what killed Mitch Hedburg?

  • I honestly think this was the most skillful game ever. I had epic matches with Super Nashwan...

  • I have been playing this game for PC for the last 3 Hours straight!! I love it! I used to play it at the GAMEBOY many years ago.

  • Just watching this makes me want to get an Amiga again just to play this.. I could get so hooked on it again..

  • Ohhh... I was waiting for "ICE CREAM, ICE CREAM!" too... :(

  • lol I played this version prior to the PSone version but I always think the same thing ;D

  • @markowe The megadrive cant do that:( the PS1 version has "icecream" though!:D

  • Possibly one of the best games ever !! I got so addicted to this !!

  • ur FUKKIN RIGHT i had this on the AMIGA 500. really wanna play this again.. 80's/early90's classic

  • Absolutely terrible sound here. Amiga version was much better...

  • retronostalgic

Absolutely, and where's the guy yelling ice-cream during the replay and injuries?

  • The amiga sound man on Speedball 2 was the legendary Richard Joseph who sadly passed away 2 years ago. He also did sensible soccer and many others.

  • Man that was a good game, still would be.

  • This was the version I cherished and loved.

  • Megadrive version is a direct 16 colour graphical port of the Atari ST version, including scrolling and sprite movements.

  • Megadrive version is a direct 16 colour graphical port of the Atari ST version. Even the code for the scrolling and sprite movement

  • LMFAO!!!

And I thought I was the only one who went through dozens of joysticks because of this game, lmao!!!

  • Looking back at this, i must admit this was a great game.

  • i got it on amiga and MD, hate the port. Does the game no justice :(

  • ICE CREAM, ICE CREAM! :)

Speedball II is most definitely 1 of my alltime favorite games, amiga version ofcourse.

  • Oh man, what a game! I remember all those epic fights back then...

  • look at vids of the amiga version ... its not

  • The Commodore Amiga version of this game was better!

  • im sry but that's poor play

  • mam to na komórke

  • i must say i'm a bit dissapointed with the revolver goalies effort on the dlx goal...

  • i used to love playing the team"super nashwan",if i remember they were the best team.So many players carried off injured and that beloved "ice cream" quote that made my girlfriend crack up!

  • wasn't the ice-cream quote only on the PSone version?

  • lol,i did play the ps1 version of the game, but for me by far the better version was the amiga original version, and yes that ice cream quote was in there, used to crack my girlfriend up,she didnt want me scoring any goals, just to kill the oponents so she could hear the ice cream quote!

  • That's what I used to do just to hear the ice cream bit, lmao!

  • i played it in master system

  • i just love that game

    amiga 4-ever ^^

  • i totally miss my amiga 500,loved playing this game on it.

  • I play better xDDD

  • I can sooooo tell this is the Megadrive version...The Gritty FM soundchip gave it away!

  • wait, when that person got injured, did you get points?

  • ok... but just want to say that Revolver was the shitest team of the 2nd League championship

  • Darn, i have just started a new legue, and alrdy in my second match i play against Steel Fury. Steel Fury are as strong if u meet them in the first match at the season as of in the last. And as in the second match i have just started building my team up, they are to strong. Really...this match is way harder than the best teams in the best div due to that my team still sucks. And they CREAM me and every possible way. I have reloaded this match so many times now. I need help on tips and tactic!

  • Damn slow version, PAL Megadrive format?

    Top speed on Amiga <3

  • this game is still unbelievably awesome even though its very old..

and yes the person who played this one is heaps crap.

  • sega should have left this game alone, how dare they insult the bitmap bros

  • nice game, but damn that person who played this sucks :D

  • Absolute classic! My fingers are sore just thinking about how much I used to play it.

  • Glaube, ich muss mir WinUAE installieren, einen Joystick besorgen und das (zweit)genialste Spiel überhaupt zocken! Icecreaaaamm, Icecreaaaammm.... übrigens, die neue Version ist ja ein Flop! :-(

  • I got one thing to say Super Nashwan:P

  • Man the memories!

  • man i was addicted to this game! cant wait for the remake

  • that game was so great

  • the beat is dope, fuck yea

  • Should be beating Revolver 50-0

  • That tune is amazing. But this is not the Amiga version right? I remember the tune sounding alot more gritty.

  • Kinda reminds me of Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball

  • Look how superior the Amiga version is to the Megadrive version.

  • My Competition Pro never broke!

  • sick game

i hate using brutal deluxe though

  • Two things kept me from liking the 1-player mode of this game;

    1. I upgrade all my guys to max, start a match, the ball is served, the computer and I rush forward... and the computer plows through me like a bulldozer.

    2. The computer gets the ball, heaves it down the field and there is *ALWAYS* one of his team in perfect position to catch it. I throw the ball toward the other end of the field and there isn't a single member of my team anywhere near it.

  • There was also a basketball game called Future Basketball, which was a similar idea. There are power-ups and mines on the court, you can knock down other players, etc.

  • Pro Evo 10 years before!

  • The best version was Commodore Amiga not MD

  • The version on live arcade is a remake by frogster, the trailer in up if you search for "speedball2"

  • the first speedball is far better than brutal deluxe,no gadgets or shitty stars to get, just a great playable game, in sb2 u dont even know where on the field u are half the time

  • you can get 5 stars in 2 throws, only idiots went for goals as you got less points! I'm looking forward to the new version though hopefully it will do the original game justice. Taking out the oppositions goal keeper ftw™ :)

  • you can get 5 stars in 1

  • Yes I remember (many, many years ago now!) you could position yourself and throw against the electrifier thing and the ball would slide along and light up all the stars in one go.

  • I liked this game, i also liked League of Pain, i miss those.

  • I think it may. How many players on each team? i cant really tell.

  • Deathrow was a fun and overlooked game in my opinion, still hoping for a Deathrow 360 game.

  • this game plays out kinda like "Deathrow" for Xbox. Should be fun over live.

  • This game is coming out on xbox live arcade

  • Shiryu, did you ever play DeathRow on the Xbox 1? It's a sort of Speedball knock-off except you use a disc and you can beat the crap out of your opponents

  • yeeeeeaaaah!coolest game back in the days.....

  • Theres a preview on the new version up at Eurogamer with one screenshot (looks great)

Should be coming out this fall....

  • Is this the computer playing both sides coz otherwise whoevers playing doesn't know half the things you can do to win =/

  • hmmmm....looks like the pal version. Black borders on top and bottom and much slower than the 60 hz ntsc version. Everybody should mod his Mega drive nowadays if he still plays it. Nothing beats full screen and full speed, especially when it comes to Speedball.

  • Hum Oo' J'ai beau adorer Atari, on ne peut pas nier que la version Amiga est bien plus... sonorisée et colorée ^^'

Mais bon, le jeu reste le meme.

    SpeedBall est une tuerie.

  • Fantastic Game, Amiga CD32 version is the best of them all, contains some fantastic tunes and loads really quickly also plays better to boot thanks to the extra chips in the cd32 over the a500/a1200. Plus the general sound is much better than this video of the Megadrive version.

Still memories, I remember the hard battle at the start with Steel Fury vs your brand new team (if you could beat them with a basic team you knew you've been practicing enough).

  • I'm really curious about the "aaaargh"-sounds that must have been shouted by the blue player between 3:27 and 3:37 ;)

  • check for the new speedball game coming this year then

  • Fantastic game, one of ther best I've ever played!

  • nostalgic trip deluxe

    it gets the endorphines up

  • great memories!

  • Chaos Engine and this was great. Both games were in a dark future which gave it an edge. It seemed quite brutal game and it was but really fun at the same seeing a futuristic game, maybe they might have it one day hehe.I'm sure Rollerball with James Caan inspired this game.

  • Best fictional sport game ever ! But accurate passing is difficult! ;)

  • One of the Amiga's best. Great nostalgia. Xenon 2 was quality too!

  • i remember this game on the amiga 500 , awesome!
