@SapphireFingers Does it make your nails look longer? How long do they last? How much do they cost? Does it make your nails weak? Sorry for all the questions!!!
@jbruch2 it can make your nails longer if you get gel extensions or you can just get it done over your natural nails so that it will stay the same length, like nail varnish. they last about 3 weeks. they vary from £20-£50 depending in what and how much you get done. it does not make your nails weak at all or damage them in any way whatsoever, in fact, it makes your nails stronger and harder, especially for those who bite their nails as you cant bite through gels.
I just got gel nails and i really like them. They dont make your nails look longer unless you get them sculpted. They definately look more natural than acrylics. Hope i could help a little.
Are gel nails healthy for your nails? Once you take them off, will your nails be just as strong and healthy and grow like they did before the gel nails?
@Megana1390 Do you have to have long nails in order to get UV gel nails? Because I hate acrylics and I want to try gels but I trim my nails very short.
tell me y my aunt was yellin at the nail salon lady tellin her 2 take the class 4 gel nails n she said the not healty 4 u is she ritee or is she tryin 2 boost her company up ????? idk
@maria123457504 Difference Between Acrylic and gel nails. With Gel Nails they use your actual nail its less hurtful to your nail and look MUCH natural if you like that. Acrylic hurts your nails. they take a layer of your nail off. And make your nail FLAT. Harms your nail Hugely. and they put a fake nail over top of your nail. And it breaks much quicker. UV lights depend on the volt of the light. Some can be 19 dollars other 200. Depending on what you like,
This is not true. If the Tech is using incorrect filing technique, the natural nail can be damaged regardless of what system is used (acrylic or gel). The damage is done when aggressive filing techniques are used and extensions are pulled off when removing.
Also, natural look can be achieved using acrylic too - it's purely down to the skill of the person doing it. Mega thick gel nails can be created too. :)
@idontcare155 you can multitask (i.e do one hand while the other cures) but I never had a set of acrylics or gels that took less than 40 minutes - that's why they cost what they do.
litsaev is absolutely right, he did use an electric drill on the natural nail, about 35 seconds into the video. Total nono. Most nail techs, good or not, would drill right through your natural nail doing that. That being said, he did an amazing job annd didnt seem to hurt his client! But yeah generally dont let someone do that to you, it's an accident waiting to happen.
@Aurora83186 i don't understand how it was on the natural nail if the gel is already covering it... i keep reading about drills and how bad they are for your nails, but i don't see how it's getting through to the natural nail.
@Aurora83186 Wait a second here. He is using a different tool than the one used at the end. It's a soft-high grit drum just to dull-up the surface. Why is everybody think they're pro's at things on the Web? Jesus. If people would just think before clicking the Post button, there would be so much less idioties on the Web and espescialy on You tube.
@litsaev I know this is old, but you do realize that Greg Salo is the co-owner of Young Nails, and is a master at what he does, right? Fools ruin people's nails, not the tools :)
@Megana1390 Because he is a good business man does not mean he is good on nails! I saw my comment and the way I wrote it is not representing the way I wanted it to sound. I ABSOLUTELY believe that the one who uses drill on your nail (on the gel or your nail) is simply lazy!!! I have been hurt 2 times that way and took me 2 months to be able to grow my nails properly!!!! Even when you have your gel removed it should be with a file and a buffer. It takes MUCH longer but your nail remainsuntouched
@Megana1390 Important notice: the gel it best to be removed from your nails in 2 phases: the first time your manicurist should remove the most of it and leave a layer so she/he will not but also your natural nail
the second time she/he should only lightly buff it (2-3 strokes on each nail) so the rest of it will go away too.
Most times the second phase is not needed because the gel fall off your nail. This way your nail will ALWAYS be healthy!
@litsaev I am a licensed nail technician, so I know this. That is also the reason why I commented on the video. Because of cheap salons that hack away at people's nails and use illegal products, people are afraid of tools that CAN be used safely. When an electric file (not a drill or dremmel, which has WAYY too high RMPs) is used by someone who knows what they are doing, it can be safe for the nail. I agree that you should be concerned about the health of your nails.
Your never to use an Electric file on the actual Nail Bed EVER...State Board will not approve that and damage to the nail plate is caused with an electric File.....
@jllove1992 you have to remove the shine from your natural nail so that the gel or acrylic would stick onto it otherwise it'd just fall off.
it is risky to use an electric drill on your natural nails as it can always thinnen them to much, they should use a normal, high grit file (like 180 or 240).
If you're fraid they will ruin your nails tell them to be gentle.
His gel technique is too thick. He shouldn't have to sand down his work on the surface after the fact. Sure would be nice to know a guy who did nails though.
@lovelifetilldeath i THINK because the hair dressers work with hair chemicals like dye and that makes the product he uses on everyone else get gooey and gross...I'm just guessing because once I was dying my hair and my nails got really gross.
@xXxShAexXx pure acetone or get an acrylic gel remover place it on the nail till it kind of bubbles take an orange stick and gently scrape it away and repeat it's alot quicker and more gentle to the nail bed. Acetone has a way of drying the nail bed out which also strips all the natural oils out of the nail bed.
@xXxShAexXx Yes u can use acetone but it dries the nail bed out too much. A better way is to get some gelled acrylic remover apply it to your nail let it kind of bubble and gently scrape it off with an orange stick.
This guy makes putting on gels look badass! I love the hard core music in the background; how many of us would love a man who could do our nails?? When you think about it, what's the difference between an artist who tattoos you, or one who designs your nails? You're the man!! Thanks for the video
How would you remove gel? is it the same way as removing acrylic by soaking in acetone?..I know you can buy soak off gels but what about the hard gels? do you really have to file it all off, can't you soak them too?
@susany2k5 You can't soak gel nails off. They must be filed off. There is a type of gel polish that can be soaked off, but even this is difficult to do. One usually has to file and THEN soak. I do gel nails professionally. I use both the Young nail gels (The guy in the video is the founder of Young nails) and LCN. What he is doing in the video is a full set of gel nails which must be buzzed off to remove. But gel nails definitely don't harm your natural nails. Hope this helped.
Finally someone that knows what they are doing & can explain each step! I loved this video! I'm re-teaching myself how to do nails, didn't do them once I grauduated cosmetology school. This video helps so much! Thank u :)
no you dont need the uv lamp for the acrylic because its like cement it just drys in itself.... you need the lamp though when your putting a finishing coat on top of the acrylic nail....

@cavendishderby Are you certain you're not allowing the UV light to come into contact with your brush? That would do it. It shouldn't go hard on you under normal use.
Thats a very good idea to prepare the gel so its easier to apply a proper white smile line, I do my nails every 4 weeks by myself and always have trouble creating a nice smile line, thank you so much for this vid. Good Work!!!!

This reminds me of how french acrylic rewhites used to be done before they just started drilling down to nothing at refills and sending you away with throbbing hands
You can get kits at Sally Beauty or on Ebay, but I would recommend that only nail techs work with gels, as they can cause a lot of damage to the nail bed if they are not used properly.
Acrylic can be porous, that is why some people use a gel to seal and add gloss at the end.
Acrylic is harder, for those who need strong nails. Gel is a little bit more flexible. They also seem to stay on the nail a lot better (acrylic) from what my nail tech instructor's experience.
There are porous gels out there too, the ones that can be soaked off.
I knew nothing about gel nails until last week. Went to a salon the guy talked me into getting the gel nails but he didn't do it this way. I basically spent $30 on fucking acrylic nails. Never ever going there again.
this is awesome! Thanks for the great instructional. Gels are much better than acrylics for nail techs as they are not porous and will not be damaged while doing other clients nails. They are also great for "pickers". Those clients that pick at their nails, (not their nose), because they are so much smoother without the little edges that powder acrylic can leave. There is not anything to pick at. I have just started using them, but I love them. I am trying to get all my clients to switch.
I like how he does them reverse, but it looked sloppy and I really don't see the advantge of gel over acrylic in terms of application. Yeah, overall not that impressed here. But this was a nice product knowledge demo!
this looks difficult! although i love gel i'm also doing nails right now i'm just doing tips and slowly learning forms i hope i can do all techniques one day soon!
This maybe a stupid question but I wanted to try these UV gel nails but I dont have long nails. Will the manacurist glue on nails or do you already need to have nails??? Hope that made some kind of sense
If you don't have long nails of yourself, the manacurist will (if you want longer nails) glue tips of your nails, and about 1-2 months later (1 or 2 times) later, they will be all grown out and you have long nails by yourself! Some manacurist use stencils, kind of like stickers that they stick under the nail to lay the gel on your nail, but I only recommend that with acryl because gel isn't that strong so if you don't have a nail/tip as a base you will propably break some nails! greetz
No, you don't need to have nails. You don't even need an extension if you don't want it and have the patience to let your natural nail grow out. They can just overlay the gel on whatever natual nail you have, or sculpt a tip if you want it extended
The liquido for remover is name orgánic , i dont remember!!! You can use acetone pure!!

bella90xsl 2 years ago
this a whole new world for me, where does one buy kits for the gel french nails? i'd love to learn to do this :)
java2go2 2 years ago
you can get them at sallys beauty supply store
ItsCassie7411 2 years ago
You can get kits at Sally Beauty or on Ebay, but I would recommend that only nail techs work with gels, as they can cause a lot of damage to the nail bed if they are not used properly.

lots of places doing full set GEL for 60 bucks..expensive as hek , thats why peps pick acrylic over gel cus its cheaper.

$30 is super cheap for artificial nails.
Acrylic can be porous, that is why some people use a gel to seal and add gloss at the end.
Acrylic is harder, for those who need strong nails. Gel is a little bit more flexible. They also seem to stay on the nail a lot better (acrylic) from what my nail tech instructor's experience.
There are porous gels out there too, the ones that can be soaked off.
princesslyndi 2 years ago

I am trying to get all my clients to switch.

looks a lot more difficult than acrylic application... and doesn't look as good. either way, this guy still has amazing skill.

What UV Gel product do you use? What watt UV Light do you use? And what kind and size brush? You make it look so simple.

Hi do you have to get the uv lamp or can you let it dry naturally ? Does anyone know ?
jamk37 2 years ago
gel doesnt dry naturally at all. UV gel is used with a UV lamp :)
fishypielol 2 years ago
I like how he does them reverse, but it looked sloppy and I really don't see the advantge of gel over acrylic in terms of application. Yeah, overall not that impressed here. But this was a nice product knowledge demo!

is there any place to do this in northern indianapolis, IN? :]
xsenoritacrystal 2 years ago
This maybe a stupid question but I wanted to try these UV gel nails but I dont have long nails. Will the manacurist glue on nails or do you already need to have nails??? Hope that made some kind of sense
JessesAngel 2 years ago 3
If you don't have long nails of yourself, the manacurist will (if you want longer nails) glue tips of your nails, and about 1-2 months later (1 or 2 times) later, they will be all grown out and you have long nails by yourself! Some manacurist use stencils, kind of like stickers that they stick under the nail to lay the gel on your nail, but I only recommend that with acryl because gel isn't that strong so if you don't have a nail/tip as a base you will propably break some nails! greetz
playmate1986 2 years ago
No, you don't need to have nails. You don't even need an extension if you don't want it and have the patience to let your natural nail grow out. They can just overlay the gel on whatever natual nail you have, or sculpt a tip if you want it extended

Wow...I think I may have to watch this several times before I get the foundations.

GEL IS WAY BETTER THAN ACRYLIC
LGOBK 2 years ago 2
Obviously, the end result is lovely. But I'm wondering what the benefit of gel is over acrylic?
Or is it just a preference thing?
sugarspundt 2 years ago
I think its a preference thing. In the end, gel is still acrylic. Its a bit softer and easier to file, but acrylic just the same

Gel acrylic is generally odorless, compared to L&P acrylic systems.
