what year was the video taken? It looks like federer has changed the mechanics of his backhand somewhat since then, he now sports a more looped preparation and backswing where as in this video he is swinging in a more neutral plane. The swingpath he has NOW is more effective at generating power as the kinetic chain is more natural/efficient however the swing path in this video is more 'classical'.
