Agreed that the music selection and cutsie choreography will best suit a Western audience, but every time swing is chosen by a singles skater, it all ready puts them at a disadvantage with European & East Asian judges and indicates a skater's lack of range, especially when they're American.
I don't understand the prevalence of rehashing. It's like months will go by following worlds/competitive season and skaters still end up choosing recycled music, often resulting in mediocre interpretation.
Why does it indicate a lack of range? A Russian skater wouldn't be showing a lack of range or be at a disadvantage for skating to russian folk music. Rachael's biggest problem IMO, is being able to engage the audience and this is a great step in the right direction.
I can stand same old typo of music if the interpretation is excellent, but I'm getting tired of the same classical judge-pleasing pieces we have listened the last 4 years.
I totally agree with your remarks. Still, in Flatt's case, she need to start somewhere since she is not a natural artist. She'll have to work harder in order to be as artistically challenging as some others..
The footwork will wow the crowds... The music lends itself to something catchy and crowd-pleasing, rather than the massive amounts of dips and dives rewarded by the new judging system.
she has great elements! im feeling a meryl davis 2009 od dress for this!! really cute footwork!! she could use a bit more speed though! other than that....im a huge fan of this short program!
It's hard to argue with such good skating and the music brought out her personality. Good job, Rachael. Now can you change the dress? This music needs a sexy womanly dress, preferably red or black - not a little-girl pastel with a bow in the middle (good grief).
all of the music she skates to needs to have this kind of character and personality. she matches the music when she skates, so when it's fun and upbeat, she is too. this will be a good, high schoring program for her this season...not too sure about her LP tho. but this was wonderful!
I don't normally love upbeat music like this, but this program was nice and the choreography was so cute! The crowd got a kick out of it too! Great job
i love this music! im using it too! for short! many people say its un orginal but if it works for u and makes u want to dance! than go for it!!!!!!!

I feel like Emily Hughes or Mirai Nagasu would skate better to this, but it was very nicely done. There are a ton of improvements!

It's just her short program dress from last season. I think she did that last year as well, kept her old costumes until the GP.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
lack of facial expression. She need to have some expert to make up for her and make she prettier. She still look as ugly as usual.

MAC already does her makeup. Not sure if they did this one. And you should be watching her skating and not her makeup!
