At the time no one thought of this film as a concept and not many people understood what it meant. Now its such an ingrained part of our pop culture, we think of fighter pilots, volleyball, bromances, W and his mission accomplished stunt on the Lincoln, aviator sunglasses, bomber jackets and we don't have to go too far before thinking of Top Gun. Tom Cruise was only 23 when he shot this, in the interviews about this he looks even younger!

There's a shuffle over the rights to it, paramount wanted to have them exclusively, but HF didn't want to let his intellectual property go. So they made a deal, paramount used some for the film but wasn't allowed to release them on OST. Memories is a compromise on HF's part for the 2006 re-release.
