How is it the death of the chain at all? What data do you have that emphasizes these claims?
Death to what? The ecosystem, or the human image of "native"? pretty sick of people attempting to "hype" something up, when there isn't even any research showing zebra mussels to be causing the "death" of any lake..
i honestly do not believe the zebra mussels will kill the lake. this was just an interveiw with our schools enviromental science teacher.
the only facts of them damaging lakes are in the great lakes, mainly because the lakes are so large that there is no way to control them.
in smaller lakes like the alexandria chain, i have no doubt that the population of the zebra mussels will stay in check, and not cause any serious damage to the lake.
IMO i think the positives of zebra mussels in smaller lakes, out weigh the negatives. clearer water, greater weed growth, even the mussels themselves can become structures for fish.
