i dont really see the purpose to this. That is not how you flip. When you flip you are usually at the catch (the most unstable point) or you just caught a crab and the oar is being wrenched out of your hand and you slam into the water. Practice the real thing!
ive been rowing for 7+ years and I just recently flipped after tipping a wave with my oar and it went flying out of my hand. now im paranoid any time the water isnt glassy flat lol.
I would have preferred to see them actually flip the boat rather them fall out of the boat. Women generally have a harder time getting back in because they have a lower center of gravity (child bearing hips). Judging by the way this club rows I am sure they will have many more opportunites to practice this drill.
Did you read what I said? Their lower center of gravity makes it difficult to get back in the boat after having flipped (in addition to a weaker upper body). Calm down. If you have education then you wouldn't have misinterpreted my comment.
Deep water remount is a strange one, you either get it first time or it's really difficult. What I teach is that you should try it, but if you can't get it first time, climb onto the stern canvass and kick the scul to the bank like a surfboard. If you spend a long time trying to remount and failing, you are getting more and more tired and cold - real killers, even in a warm water environment. Happy rowing!
i eventually got in even when water was around 60 degrees and wind was blowing and I couldnt touch the ground. that after 10 minutes trying to get my feet out of stretchers and another 10 minutes trying to get in the boat while just before falling I was doing a difficult workout lol.
When we did our capsize test, we capsized. We had to throw our blades away in front of us and the boat literally turned upside down and you go with it! They're throwing themselves out!!! tee hee hee :)
ohhhhh dear! they are just jumping out of the boat ha ha!they should be throwing the blades forward and letting go! and plus gettin back in like that could seriously damage the boat! (sax-board)
Im in the sculling program. I've been rowing since spring. I have to do this on saturday. Hope I don't fail

haha, we never learned how to capsize! They just waited for us to do it ourselves! :D

i swear you're just supposed to throw your blades away and capsize otherwise you're putting too much [pressure on the riggers...

L2Physics please, women having a lower center of gravity INCREASES their balance. - Education, get it.

just dont drop the oars and you won't fall
and keep the oars horizontal to the water
Caiok92 3 years ago
Go up to the catch and square the blades. Then move you hands up and down a little.

sculling is kind of like riding a bike in the water, of you're not moving forward, and you're not sitting still in the shell, you're gonna fall over

If this were realistic, the boats would capsize. Even the uber-stable beginner boats do it...
