I found this film irritating. With the whole thing about abortion, I was saying to myself "no wonder" she needs one. Her boyfriend goes away (warning her it'll be over a year) and within one week she needs cock?!? In those days, birth control was very popular. Dutch caps were used throughout the USA during the period before the "Baby Boom."

you have a point. the film tries to have morals, but meanwhile the protagonist is sleeping with his friends girlfriend, and she makes excuses like "i'm not good at being alone."

I haven't read the book on which the film is based, but it also seems as though the point is "a beautiful woman doesn't have to be loyal."

Secondly, this is typical "babe" fare. If the character wasn't insanely gorgeous, and instead was plain and a bit overweight, would the plot have come through the same way?

but i think that's the point, no? we care about these characters, EVEN THOUGH they are flawed. like real people. we care about real people, who still screw up and make mistakes and make up weird logic, etc. i think that's why i love this film so much; the people in it are real people who screw up but are likeable all the same,and as viewers sometimes we don't even know why.
