@anerlie I like his scenes,but he was not originally intended to be there, when movie was originally shot, he wasen't there because his character didn't exist and there was no Exorcism, the Novel "LEGION" which this movie was based on(and was the original title) had possesion in it, but not like it is at the End of this movie.
Studio Was marketing it as Exorcist 3, they demanded an Exorcism, this is an attempt to create an Ending a little closer to what it was supposed to be.
