  • fake and gay

  • I'm glad that there are people like Eric Mandat to compose interesting pieces like this...and people like Robert Spring who care to do the work it takes to play them...so that I don't have to. :-)

  • Um?

  • He must get so bored...

  • whoa, that's actually pretty awesome!

  • this guy gave me lessons

  • this is stupid

  • THIS IS SUCH GARBAGE!!!

  • @Clarintet264 You must not know who this man is.

  • @Clarintet264 Even though he is pushing the "modern" clarinet farther and farther, don't think for a moment he can't play traditional stuff. He played a bunch of new compositions last week and then finished with "Carnival of Venice". It was filled with beauty, speed, and humor. Dr. Spring is an incredible talent and teacher.

  • That's my god father!

  • I remember when i first started clarinet and my teacher was explaining broken chords and she asked "how do you play a chord if you don't have an instrument like a piano". I raised my hand and said you could use two instruments. She said that can't be done. If only I had a time machine. If only.....

  • A very interesting treat!

  • SO Jealous of the circular breathing!!! He's a little odd, but the man is an amazing musician. =) Hearing him play Black Dog live was fantastic.

  • he could have just bought a basset clarinet ;)

  • @rajidae but this is pro

  • Please realize while you listen to this that Robert Spring is probably at the forefront of modern clarinet playing. These advanced techniques are a little more "out there" but nothing compared to some serial music. Do a search for Charles Ives and you'll see someone truly pushing the envelope.

I think the piece with the pvc piping is amazing, definitely adds to the piece. It's not like he's doing backflips and flat out showing off. He's creating music with himself. These techniques allow that.

  • Great!

Tip of the hat to anyone that is trying to extend the range and expression-possibilities of the clarinet.

Note the multiphonic at 1:59 done on the left ( Bb?) clarinet alone.

And the Saint-Saenss quote at 3:34

    Modern music and yet melodical.

    I like.

  • How did you manage to find TWO good reeds?! ;-)

  • :D haha!

  • He should stick to playing just one clarinet ;p

  • The sound is surel ynot horrendous..but he obviously would not improve his tone form playing 2 at once.
