I have to say that if a woman wants chivalric behavior, she needs to earn it, there are far too many of the women you mentioned out there that think the respect and courtesy flows one way, or that we are being chauvanistic, and men are sick and tired of it. My observation is that a lot of women don't treat men all that great nowadays either. Also, women today don't tend to behave in a way that allows for chivalrous behavior by men. I've heard women (when I was in college) express the belief that a man holding the door for her is sexist. I think it's common courtesy for either sex to hold the door for the person behind you. Modern day women are more aggressive and even hostile than in the past. Can't have chivalry if women don't behave like ladies.

Sometimes they inherited & never married - rare but it *did* happen. Others took over their husband's estates after their husbands died in battle. Chivalry was always a kind privilege women had before they had the kind of more public privileges men had--but rememeber the vast majority of men were oppressed too, and had their own disadvantages.
I just simply think it can work both ways. As a man, I'm flattered when a girl opens a door for me. It kind of feels good. We can simply both share in on the courtesies, and with more men making themselves look more 'beautiful' these days (keeping fit more, shaving body hair etc)it's only fair

I just watched a video of this feminist talking to some college kids in an auditorium. She said "men need to show women respect, but women need to be worthy of the respect men wish to show". If as a young woman, you have not yet encountered any real men, I suggest you need to review the people you hang out with or date. Chivalry is not dead, my dear, it simply is not handed out like candy by real men to every painted trollop with an entitlement syndrome. Find a real man. They are out there.

You know what is kinda funny, the two sides of my family can trace their lines back to German Aristocracy, so I am probably descended from two lines of knights, another part of my family, Swedish, that means I am also descended from the Vikings, so here was one line, the German, defending women, here was the other, the Norse, raping them. Oh well, I keep to the code of chivalry, with some bits and pieces of norse code, mostly those are just be good in battle or die.

If men want their full rights, they have to sign into selective service, while women have to do nothing.
If I have to fight and defend my rights, women should do the same. In my book there should be no free ride on the freedom train, and its time to pay the fee, if not I would be the one to shove my foot up their asses and boot them off the train.

As described in the Art of Courtly love by Andreas Cappellanus, A knight or similarly high ranking male was well within the rules of decorum if he decided to rape a peasant girl to get rid of his sexual frustration. Chivalry is not dead, but it is dying. It isn't appreciated for what it is. Men forgot how to be Men, and Women forgot how to be Women.We have lost base with the importance of some traditional parts of the gender roles. There is nothing wrong with wanting to explore new horizons, but if we cut out too much of the framework it collapses on itself. When virtual reality becomes reality, and we can experience sensory perception in vr, dating, and marriage will be nearly obsolete.

I used to be that way, until i kept getting screwed over, i have 2 sons now who will know that women do not deserve the respect they ask for, since they cannot give respect in return. my sons will know and understand how plastic women are in actions and responses.
therefore in the future they will now 99% of women are pretty much worthless as people but great consumers economically.

I also stand when a woman goes to sit at my table, and go to help them into their chair if that is acceptable, open the door and help the girl into my car on a date, and open the door again and help them out of my car. My observation is that a lot of women don't treat men all that great nowadays either. Also, women today don't tend to behave in a way that allows for chivalrous behavior by men. I've heard women (when I was in college) express the belief that a man holding the door for her is sexist. I think it's common courtesy for either sex to hold the door for the person behind you. Modern day women are more aggressive and even hostile than in the past. Can't have chivalry if women don't behave like ladies.

I'll miss chivalry, but it has become the equivalent of sexism. Think about it, chivalry was from a time when women had less or no rights. No they have equal, and in some cases possibly more rights, than men, and we're still supposed to bend over to help them? Yeah, that would be sexism.

Chivalry existed in an age where women could not vote or own land and it was necessary for men to fight and die to defend her. It is dead now because they work for their own paycheck and buy their own houses. It is USED and EXPLOITED though by women who want to be waited on. Yet, at the same time, women say they are "independent" and "need men like a fish needs a bicycle"(that's Gloria Steinem, girls). So if women expect respect, you should show some.

@humanistheart Years of reading Medieval literature & history - late Med. into early Renaissance in France & Italy - England less so but not entirely uncommon. Sometimes they inherited & never married - rare but it *did* happen. Others took over their husband's estates after their husbands died in battle. After the Black Plague, so many men died that the "estates" of women & peasants rose. Not all laws were unfavorable to women. In general, few people had recourse to law in general.

But not that all women should be construction workers, just that the women who are qualified to be construction workers should be allowed to be construction workers. But lets see, with few exceptions, in athletics it is unreasonable to be equal. Same as it would be unreasonable to race a 10 year old boy, a 25 year old man, and 50 year old man. Because the bodies are different. But emotionally, most men and women are built differently too.

@bolimac maybe we shouldn't be asking about best interests. You could also say then that it's not in men's best interest to give up all the financial power. I guess I'm more of the Warren Farrell camp in that I believe the whole notion of women only trying to struggle for 'equality' with men is fallacious because there are more dimensions to equality than just doing what men do or have done. Men have to struggle for equality with women too. Part of that is getting rid of female only chivalry.

Seems like human nature, the sense of achievement. A gentleman in the living room, bad boy in the bedroom. I am happy that women are protected equally now. But I wont buy a girl flowers or open the door for her. Why cant they do it for me? Why cant the girl do something nice. This is a double standard.
And why would someone court a girl when nowadays she has already been courted 10+ times. Courted is when the father found a man to give his daughter to.
I love women, but I think of them as equal. I am not going to do something special for them.

Funny... last time that I had a date, I opened the car door for her, opened the restaurant door for her and pulled her chair out. (because it was a CLASSY PLACE and it's to be expected). After pulling her chair out, she read me the riot act on how she's a "modern day independant woman" who doesn't need men to do anything for her because they're skum. @Wytchfinde I'm lucky as hell. I actually met my girlfriend (now fiancee) online about 4 years ago, and finally found someone who knows what a relationship being a "two way street" means. She's been supportive as hell and im lucky to have her.
Most women are funny. They never give a shit about what happened to the NICE guys until they choose assholes and get fucked over enough times. Frankly, I never cared for people who lacked in common sense anyways. Especially with dating.
