@MyFaceBurns The fact that the pilot was extremely skilled and a lot better than you could do. Also, the fact that he/she accomplished that landing with inches to spare AND... it was in a slight crosswind.
@UKEScentral The point is, how is he extremely skilled? And of course he could do better than me, I don't know the first thing about planes... being better than me doesn't make you skilled, trust me.
@MyFaceBurns it takes quite alot of skill to pull of this here landing, you need to be right on the glide slope, if your to low, your landing gear will shear off, and to high you won't be able to stop safely on the runway, it's a simple matter of how this is one of the more dangerous landing strips, requiring a very good pilot to land it
Natus2005 - If what you're saying is true, this has to be one of the shittiest airports in the world ... I'm supprised an Airline as high profile as AA would even want to fly into an airport like this!?
@xoio Yes, that's Toncontin (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) just 2,1 Km runway. Believe it or not AA, Continental and Delta fly there, actually two years ago a A320 overran the runway and rolled out into a street with fatal consequences (you can look up TACA Flight 390). As long as I know, they haven't modified the runway.
That is the airport at Tegucigalpa. Honduras. I landed there on my way to Costa Rica, and it was a very scary landing. Landing it is not the only problem, at the end of the runway there is a huge hole with a whole nieghborhood at the bottom. If the breaks of the airplane fail, you are DEAD!!!
@pdowty68 really? because it seems to me that before touch down the 757 was slightly left of the runway, parallel to it, but it still drifted to the centre. then on touchdown the nose pointed into the wind, and the aircraft was clearly crabbing on an angle because it was not moving in the direction the nose was pointing. instead it moved in the direction of the runway. good pilot
Ok passengers, barf bags are in front of you attached to the front seat please feel free to use them anytime. Absolutely no running around the plane, thank you Cptn Saving your ass!!
i most say this pilot is fuckin awsome. the plane almost hit the bushes 0:29. scary runway. i bet pilots dont land at night. i wonder if this airport is in a flight simulator.
Not sure about flight-sims but if it ain't it should be! The airport is Tegucigalpa - Toncontin (hope spelt right). Yep, you've got to have your wits about you here, and if the visibility's not up to scratch, hope the electronics keep their side of the bargain. It appears to be surrounder by high ground which I assume has climatological effects apart from the "avoiding Cumulo-Granite" thing. As you say, awesome flying+++++
Great Video!! Proof-Positive of what great flight instructors say "Cessna 152 or an airliner, fly the plane, whatever it takes!" Notice the early turn from base to final to compensate for the cross wind. Leveled @ final, kept the centerline all the way down to the numbers. Great x-wind landing technique, left wing slightly down for a left gear touchdown then the right, followed by the nose gear. Textbook. Those who know what I'm writing about will prob. agree. @ one of the toughest app. no less.
This is why this airport is one of the most dangerous of the entire world (Toncontin Tegucigalpa Honduras) Mountain around from 3 places and a step canyon on the other side complete with an motorway.Just crazy.
Jebus.. I wouldn't even try that on a simulator.. LOL. Hell I wouldn't even think about landing that plane on that tiny runway, much less in crosswind conditions with that crazy approach.
except in strong tailwind from the right rear. The low approach kept the plane from skipping off. The left turn during ground effect kept the plane from yawing down the runway while still in the air.
Im a commercial pilot (unempolyed) and I would absolutley refuse to do that landning. Too dangerous. There are so many factors involved that could easily screw up that landing so bad. And you sit there with 300 passengers praying...It is just not worth it. That landing looks like its even more diffucult than landning a Hornet on a moving Carrier deck...
Buisines probably. As bad as it is, but the labor force is cheaper. So the big multinational corps make stuff in 3rd world cos it's cheaper than paying for the same labor costs in their home countries due minimum wage and social securities and tax etc.
I agree with apapele, the approach into the airport is very difficult, can search for approach plate on google to see. Add crosswind into the situation, and you havea wild ride, seemed like they did a fantastic job due to the inertia that was put from the approach.
VFR only approach requiring a tight turn over mountainous terrain to a short final while descending into a valley to a short runway. Hmmm...your comment is appropriate!
Don't be a prick, I know it's a VFR only approach, I was telling them that so they could see a top down view of the area. Some of you people are ridiculous on here. I never disagreed with that.
Its an amazing sight and feeling standing and watching plane approching the runway with land gears down and flying over your head...
