I don't think people should cheat on their taxes. Rather, people just shouldn't do involuntary clerical work for the state, like filing paperwork they don't want to (ie, they should resist "involuntary servitude").

And in all seriousness, PA probably has the highest number of people with German ancestory than any state in the Union. I get a kick out of this garbage. These rotten politicians have been lining their pockets for years. When they retire they live in the lap of luxury. We pay bridge tolls ,turn pike tolls and other taxes to pay for highways and schools. When you put money in the bank you pay a tax,when you purchase something you pay a tax. However the schools stink,our infrastructure is falling apart and  the income tax keeps going up.Then they have the guts to call us criminals.

@lushfauna Yeah, I know a lot of the money is wasted, maybe more than half of it, maybe much more than half of it.. I'm just saying it's not a black and white issue. It's like saying "the airport is such a hassle, we should get rid of airplanes and just swim across the ocean". The problem is real, and admitting there's a problem is the first step to finding a solution, but the solution of "don't pay taxes" doesn't seem anymore practical than getting rid of airplanes, IMHO.

Interesting analogy. I'm not sure how it is applicable, however. If we were FORCED to pay for tickets, even if we didn't fly, then I could see it as apt. The "solution" to such a problem is not to get rid of the airport, but to make buying a ticket voluntary.

It's not the services the state provides that we are against - it is their violent, coercive method of fund raising rather than voluntary methods used by cooperatives, non-profits, charities, and entrepreneurs.

The only potential problem I could see is, what if almost everyone "opts out" of things like national defence, emergency services, etc, thinking "someone else will take care of it"? I'm open to the idea, but wouldn't this lead to a situation where the rich stay rich and in control of everything, and those born into poor families are just screwed? I normally think of taxes as the price you pay for being part of a society/country.

I think most people would agree with you. Using violent coercion is one method of avoiding "the tragedy of the commons", and there's no doubt about it - threatening people with violence is effective. However, is it necessary? Yes, there ARE problems to be solved and questions to be answered. But when the solution is violence and the answer comes in the form of threats and coercion against non-violent people, nothing has been really solved, and this non-answer stagnates progress.
