OMG...the NATS...Sarah, really why did you bother....there wasn't a chance of your winning...the winner was already pre determined with already to go inflated scores...this title eluded you but it isn't because you didn''t DESERVE it...you just didn't stand a chance
@getrealandsee We can't hear you. You're drowned out by the countless spontaneous standing ovations given Kwan by the vast majority, even at her practice sessions.
@getrealandsee Kwan DESERVED this National title. Kwan's performance puts this to shame. Kwan also had six triples with two combos to Sarah's five with one combo. Kwan's '98 and 2003 performances are STILL the best performances by a female skater at that event.
She DID win...kwan just took the medal home as per usual. Sarah has been ripped off so many times..2000 Skate America, here and at other competitions. She WON and this program was beautiful, complex, and beat kwan's copy and paste by a mile. She just didn't stand a chance with kwan there..no one did. Sarah is a TRUE champion and an awesome skater..but kwan was held up again and yet another skater falls victim.
@getrealandsee You're ridiculous. Sarah only did 5 Triples here in comparison to Kwan's 6 and Sarah didn't even execute all 5 of them properly. The Lutz and Salchow were both definitely underrotated! Artistically the program isn't better than Kwan's either. Hughes actually didn't even deserved to place above Cohen at this competition - she underrotated both of her Triples in the SP and should have only placed 5th there. Hughes deserved 3rd place overall after a 2nd place finish in the LP.
@Zuranthium What was always refreshing about Sarah Hughes was her maturity and contentness wherever she placed on the national, world, or olympic podium. None of this self-involved tearfest. She was always able to be happy with her 2nd, or 3rd place standing and be happy for the winner. Unlike Ms. Kwan who could never quite rise to that level of maturity.
@dtw1958 Your post is truly ignorant and slanderous. How do YOU really know that Michelle wasn't happy for any of the people that beat her? Because she was emotional? Michelle acted like a class act on the podiums at the '98 and 2002 Olympics (kissing Tara and Sarah and helping them on the podium). She was just in a lot of pain after those loses. She also told Tara at the press conference that she liked her. She also stated how happy she was for Irina after she beat her at the 2002 Worlds.
@dtw1958 Michelle also stated how happy that she was with her bronze medal at the 2004 Worlds. These off-the-cuff and vindictive posts are really ludicrous...
@dtw1958 I absolutely and totally agree. Kwan is a P H O N Y and had to be forced to even so much as congratulate a winner . Her body language on the podium while accepting Sasha's Bronze medal in 2002 screams out...'how dare the judges not hand over that Gold Medal..I am Kwan...it is my right'...and even went so far as to point out how to get to the top of the podium to the 2002 Olympic Gold Medalist. Sarah totally and completely deserved the Gold medal here!!
@getrealandsee Your assumptions are always so ignorant about Kwan... Just look at Sarah's poor posture and sloppy jumps here! Check out her CHEATED and sloppy combo at 0:51. Kwan's jumps were PERFECT that night. She had six triples with TWO combos (one late in her program) to Sarah's five with one combo. Kwan also had TWO lutzes (another one late in her program) to Sarah's cheated and sloppy combo. Kwan's program was VASTLY superior. Sarah's just looked like a big mess to me...
@getrealandsee No, Michelle WAS the CLEAR winner! Michelle's performance put Sarah's to shame! I think that Sarah's artistry in this performance was mediocre (her posture was weak, etc.). Sarah did five triples with one combo (her lutzes and salchow were underrotated). Michelle did six perfect triples with two combos. Michelle's artistry WAS MUCH BETTER. Her speedy, elegant and emotional performance was vastly superior.
@Karosanyo BULLKAKA...even Dick Button said that she deserved the Gold. Unless Kwan fell or did something that even the judges couldn't pass off as 'ever so graceful..no disruption..a little wink and a nod is all the judges will do' she had the Gold before stepping on the ice. Period! Sarah's program was complex, risky, lively, and perfect. Except for the 1997 total splatfest which should have put Kwan out of the running for worlds no other skater stood a chance. Kwan had the Gold
@getrealandsee False. Dick Button NEVER stated that Sarah deserved the Gold... Michelle won because she deserved to win... She had six triples with TWO combos (one late in her program) to Sarah's five with one sloppy combo. Kwan's jumps and artistry were superior that night. Her speed was also amazing. Her spins were good as well (love that layback at the end). What was so "risky" about Sarah's program? I think that Sarah's program was flat compared to Kwan's truly lively and emotional program.
Wow, I like this program more every time I see it... Not the greatest quality video, but thanks for posting this performance, I haven't seen it in a long long time

Great form and athleticism - as always with her.
It is so cute - that the fan boys/girls try to promote their fave by critiquing the competition:)
Sarah would consistently perform amazing skills - but a dissenter somehow notices a 1 degree under rotation:)
