I love how Rosencrantz is constantly discovering future scientific breakthroughs (Gravity, displacement of matter, steam power, and arguably, the Big Mac) and Guildenstern just ignores him. xD So funny.
Anyone else feel so bad for Rosencrantz (Gary Oldman) in this movie? Poor guy can't catch a break. Everytime he wants to show or tell Guildenstern something either G ignores him or what R wanted to show him doesn't work the way he thought it would.
GREAT LOVE AND RESPECT FROM POLAND!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH MY DEAR FOR THIS GREAT PIECE OF ART! I WATCHED IT SO LONG TIME AGO IN CINEMA AND LOVED IT EVER SINCE:) BRILLIANT FILM
Such a great movie, funky but amazing - Shakespeare at play. Also I love Tim and Gary in this, perfect foils for one another. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you so much for uploading, but now the aspect ratio is squished! )): It's not in glorious wide-screen like it is supposed to be.
Apparently you can fix it by adding a tag on your video that looks like this:
yt:stretch=16:9
It doesn't require you to re-upload it. It would be very helpful if you added the tags to all the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead videos! I just find the squished picture to be distracting.
ive read the screen play in my english class. when they are eating it says " he holds it up...he has invented the hamburger." honestly my class cracked up at that. just how i lol at the scene when i first saw it
I've never seen this on stage, but I've read the play with great pleasure. I think the film is very well cast and acted, but having watched the film, I'm convinced the attempts to open it up and dramatize it don't work. Just from this opening, the initiation of the coin-tossing (which has already been happening for an indeterminate period of time when the play opens) and the awful music really undercut the scene.
Consider: Every time they catch the coin, it lands in their hand tails up. Everytime it lands on the ground or on the stage floor (seen later) it is heads up. The coin IS landing on differant sides. Awesome movie btw 5/5
thanks for uploading....i'm playing guldenstern doing the verbal tennis match for my AS level exam, so i thought watching this would be good for learning the character. thanks alot!
I haven't been able to find this online or in stores anywhere for literally a decade. Never thought to search YouTube, it came up as related to A Bit of Fry and Laurie and I got really excited. Thank you, my friend!
i saw the play and it was a modernised version which i really liked. i haven't watched the movie yet, but I will, it just puzzles me a little seeing they kept the style traditional..
When he pulls out that triple-decker burger...priceless! My english teacher said this wasn't "roll-down-the-aisles" funny, but that caught me completely off guard.
@Steamrunner92 yeah, yeah. i watched this when i was a teenager (for enjoyment, not school related) and i was a little confused about what to expect -- tim roth being all serious; gary oldman being daft -- and then up comes the burger and i realized that this movie had some surprises. had it not been for the hamburger, i probably -- most people would've probably -- changed the channel and never have given this brilliant movie a second thought. the big mac saved the day. lol.
So, after all the time spent on TvTropes, I passed over R&G are Dead many, many times. But since we've just finished Hamlet in english class, I let curiousity get the better of me and checked out the page about it.
Loved it, immediately. These two are my favorites from the play (well, them and Horatio) and I really wanted to see this movie, so. Thank you very, very much for the upload.
even when i was an ignorant little kid and a good movie was one explosions and spaceships, even then just hearing of the premise of this film struck a chord in me, how clever and leftfield, and i absolutely love how one of the duo keeps nearly discovering and understanding great questions etc
I've just discover this movie and it is HILARIOUS. The pseudo "hamburger" kept me laughing my guts out. Thanks for uploading, but definitely I have to buy it to add it to my collection.
I am jealous, we read Hamlet in English class, I googled Hamlet, one thing lead to another, and I found Rosencranz and guildensten are dead, I always liked Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, I don't know why, but I am gonna watch this now.
You are a saint. I just read the play and had a tricky time with it, but my friends swear by this film. No rental store had it in stock. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks!!!! this is one of my fav movies, and I just can't find it on stores; it's really frustrating, because it seem like, here, in Peru, no one knows about it.
you're very welcome! ^^ I have a few more parts up on this account, Magpie08aa5. Just look in my uploaded videos and they'll slowly all get there :) Not sure why they aren't showing up in the related videos yet...
hm, well, slash is a term used by fanfiction or fanvid creators to describe a relationship between two characters of the same sex that is unusually close. we 'pair' them romantically because of this bond. I was recently watching an interview with Tim Roth and he described their relationship as very sweet ^^ and its true.
(I have more parts of this movie uploaded on this account, Magpie08aa5, if you were wondering)

This is the cleverest play I've ever read. Tom Stoppard is a genius. The movie is also hilarious.

actually, funny thing is Stoppard based his characters off of Estragon and Vladimir. So you're totally correct.

@bryngOneOn supposedly waiting for Godot was a major influence for Stoppard had when he wrote this so it's entirely possible
