I would love to get a beer with him. He seems so cool and atypical for an Sf writer of his perspicacity and eloquence. Plus he's stacked. What a hero.
HAHA, the journalist was practically wilting with anxiety as he steered the interview down the lane of politics. Mieville was probably going, "Meh, bound to come up some time anyway." But notice how his jaw clenches with apprehension, lol.
I'm a mystery/thriller guy but I have seen his stuff at Borders and I might have to consider reading his books! Sci/fi fantasy isn't actually half-bad. So I might read him
I know that saying this throw overboard all my other opinions, sort of, but I will just say it anyhow..My oh my isn`t he a good looking guy. He fits his stories perfectly.
Perdido was my first, Scar my fav, and UnLundun was so funny.
He manage to create a tension in his building of worlds and caracters, he expand my mind with his descriptions and it makes me happy to think of the posibilities.
"what if this existed"
He is on top of my list, with a lot of favourite authors below. Great post.
I don't know why. But I wish I could meet Mr. Mieville in person. Just to have a conversation w/ him to understand how he thinks. Creepy, I know. I guess you could say I'm "Digging for China."

there always has to be one pseudo-intellectual, post-hippie, half-wit critic in the bunch who's faltering ego is only synthetically sustained by a desperate need to "poison the well" of one's credentials as to redeem their superficial poise in an attempt to displace their failures...oh, and pretentious name too, marble in space...a failed attempt at sounding abstract and meta-aesthetic. *lamen's*: YOU ARE GAY
good interview, thanks for posting. although i haven't read his books fully, i appreciate the guy now after listening to him talk. before i thought his books were a bit trite, and so must be the man. how wrong i have been. oh woe is me.
That's some weighty proof for your earlier claim. I can now throw all my support behind your accusation that he 'cant write dialogue' and that he's 'gay', seeing as your response to the only one who opposed you was so obviously well thought out and intelligent.
That's a matter of opinion. I think it fits in with the setting and characters and writing style he uses in general - but, then again, that's my opinion, and you're entitled to your own.

LaughingAstarael. have you ever read the Gormenghast trilogy? there isnt much dialouge but its memorable for being mostly good. whearas Mievilles dialouge is memorable to my mind for being bad. if you think Mielvilles writes good dialouge then i pity you so much you may not even believe it.
