well cortana is a part of a doctors brain mecognism (like a clone hologram)

the covenant thought the forerunners were there ancesters, and the forerunners were our ancestors blah blah blah.....the spartans were almost wiped out but john maria david aaron and a few other spartans survived and were lost in different planets ecept for john who was found and brought to an ice pod(beggining of halo 1 and secret ending to halo 3)

halo wars is a different story you see when well im not telling you the name but the founder of the spartan program and MJOLNIR armor was creating this as halo wars was happening,because the chief and the the first volunteers were a success... well most of them were so she sent them to battle,so when the chief became ready they first made contact with the covenant and no theyre arent that much spartans and the book that i read already came out after halo the game was done

Sarina does not die. and the UNSC has more than one AI, dude. and shes probably dead by the first halo game anyway cuz smart AIs only have about a seven year lifespan. cortana is not her replacement. actuall cortana is modelled after Dr. Catherine Hasley who started the Spartan project. cortana was created after the master chief was a spartan, and since she was modelled after Hasley, she just seemed ideal for the Chief.

She was always in it, it's a storage cube used to hold an AI. It was used to put her in the suit back in Halo 1, etc.
