I have breed and raised several different breeds, including staffordshire terriers, they are more predisposed to attacking strangers if they or their family feel threatened, its not just that they bite, it is how bad their bite is.
There are so many mixes of dogs you would have to do DNA testing on each dog to prove what mix bit a person or an animal. That is why discrimination against any one dog or group of dogs is wrong. Schools should have some education for kids (and even adults) about animal and dog safety. Not everyone is well informed about it. If you are a dog owner, it might be common sense and what is the big deal. But many people have never been around a dog or maybe need a refresher course. Dog owners also need to be responsible and the vast majority are responsible.
The owner should be in control of the dog. Just like a gun owner should be in total control of their gun. If the gun goes off or whatever, that is the responsibility of the owner.

There is no monster dog. There are no factual statistics on dog bites that aren't fatal. There are too many mixes of dogs all over the place. Don't leave a child alone with a dog. One false move and any dog can attack. If you hurt a dog, he may attack and if the child is alone.. she might do something by accident to scare or hurt him. He was dumb to do that to begin with. Children play with my dog all the time, but I stay right there the whole time. I also tell the kids what they can and cannot do. These videos don't tell the whole story and are put out to fuel hysteria and hate about a dog. Dog bites fatal and non fatal are rare in the US. 31 deaths in the US in one year by all types of dogs. That National Canine Research Council has the facts. Dogs need a responsible owner who knows how to make it safe and don't let it run loose unsupervised in the neighborhood. Too many bad things can happen and they can cause trouble or get killed. People need to educate themselves about dogs.

I have breed and raised several different breeds, including staffordshire terriers, they are more predisposed to attacking strangers if they or their family feel threatened, its not just that they bite, it is how bad their bite is.

There are so many mixes of dogs you would have to do DNA testing on each dog to prove what mix bit a person or an animal. That is why discrimination against any one dog or group of dogs is wrong. Focus on educating people about making any dog safe and if they don't make them accountable. The dogs are fine. They need the right owner.

Schools should have some education for kids (and even adults) about animal and dog safety. Not everyone is well informed about it. If you are a dog owner, it might be common sense and what is the big deal. But many people have never been around a dog or maybe need a refresher course. Dog owners also need to be responsible and the vast majority are responsible.

The owner should be in control of the dog. Just like a gun owner should be in total control of their gun. If the gun goes off or whatever, that is the responsibility of the owner.
If the dog bites or gets aggressive, it's the owner's responsibility, and if the owner doesn't want to take responsible action, then it becomes the police/animal control's responsibility. Thanks to tax payers.

Yes The American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Terrier are both recognized, for they are actually breeds of dogs. A Pit Bull is a mixed breed that is not consistent, and has no regulations, unlike a Staffordshire Terrier.

A Pit Bull dog is not a breed, but predominately mixed with a Staffordshire Terrier, and obviously used only for Pit Fighting hence it's name. if the dog is a Staffordshire, than call it that. Why call it a Pit Bull? By the way if AKC or UKC recognized Pit Bulls, than why did they have to make up The American Dog Breeders Association just for Pit Bulls? That is pretty dumb.

Don't let your dog run loose in the neighborhood. Bad things can happen. In our neighborhood we don't have loose pit bulls running around but we do have Labs and mixes of dogs including German Shepherds/shelties, Boxers, Beagles, etc. Make your dog safe and that goes for the little dogs too.

There is no monster dog. There are no factual statistics on dog bites that aren't fatal. There are too many mixes of dogs all over the place. The only thing confirmed is 31 fatalities by all sorts of dogs & mixes in the US. Some of the initial reports on the news of a fatality where they called the dog a "pit bull" turned out the dog wasn't even a pit bull. Pit bull is a referenced used for a group of breeds of dogs. There are so many lab mixes, etc of dogs you would have to do DNA testing

@jec933 The study showed that of the 30 fatalities from dog attack, 22 were done by pit bull type dogs. That is more than ALL the other breeds PUT TOGETHER! Rots came in second with only 4 deaths. Pit bulls were BRED to be aggressive & savage when they attack, they were NOT bred to be household pets. They are dangerous & should be regulated they same way they regulate other dangerous animals. How many more kids, grandparents, neighbors & small pets have to die before we do something about this?

There were 22 people killed by pit bulls last year in the US. ALL other dog breeds together killed 8. All the dogs were sorted by breed the same way, if it looked like a Lab, it was a Lab, like a Chow, it's a Chow, like a Rot, it's a Rot, like a Pit, it's a Pit. NO unfair treatment there. Pits kill the most year after year

Also, the common thread with most of you pit bull haters is you tend to be very nasty people and you have no outrage for the other dogs that kill and the way you treat people shows you don't care about people. You just hate these dogs.

@jec933 Like I said, 30 people killed last year by dogs & pit bulls killed 22 of them. Pit bulls killed more people than ALL the other breeds PUT TOGETHER! Cougars only killed 14 people in the last 100 years! Cougars are banned in most places & if they let you keep one, you must put up 10' high chain link pen within a pen with a top & concrete @ bottom. If the cougar gets out they will shoot it. Pit bulls should be treated the same way. They are more dangerous than cougars! Regulate them NOW!

@ABOVEyouLIKEsky Like I said, Animal Control officers decided what breed the dog was. If the dog didn't look PREDOMINANTLY like a certain breed, they called it a mixed breed or unknown. There was NO prejudice & NO conspiracy against pit bulls. Pit bulls are BRED to be aggressive, tenacious & savage on the attack. They used them to subdue 1200 to 1800 pound BULLS! That takes a VERY strong & relentless dog which is what pit bulls are. They are NOT bred to be pets & should be banned/regulated NOW!

@rebtris It was the ANIMAL CONTROL officers who decided what breed each dog was. If the dog looked like a Chow, they called it a Chow, looked like a Dalmation, it's Dalmation, looked like a pit bull, it's a pit bull. There was NO unfairness in how the breeds were determined. You just don't want to admit that you champion an ill bred animal that has been responsible for more human deaths than ALL other dog breeds put together. Pit bulls killed the most people every year since 2003. Ban them NOW!
