Would you look at that! I've been doing this with the poles for the football goal when I go to the park. Originally I was doing it to help my dog look ahead because she was too focused on me in agility, but now we just do it for fun :)
thanks for sharing this video on tree agiltiy, Jake and I practice tree agility and now we can try a NEW game of relay racing!! I'm also going to stock up on lots of frisbee's since the warmer weather is finally coming :)
Another great video, Emily. We have a lot of bad weather here, so we play an indoor version of Find It. I started with an easy retrieve of a toy, but now she will stay while I hide it anywhere in the house--on the floor or on things like a bed or chair. I leave false scent trails by walking in room and not leaving it there and end up throwing it into it's final location so she can't always just follow her nose. In the summer, we play the same game by throwing it in a brush patch.
Emily, I have a blind dog that I want to teach "right turn" and "left turn." Do you have any vidoes I can use or can you suggest a method for me. Thank you.
@MCyr59 hmm.... I do not have videos on that. But you could teach it many different ways- some people teach it by teaching spin to the right spin to the left then make it shorter, you could teach it by touching the left shoulder and clicking as the dog turns that direction then add a verbal cue instead of the touch, or you could teach it by teaching agility rear crosses? you could also teach your dog "stop" and "back up" :)
@MCyr59 Thanks so much! I'm going to try the shoulder touch. She knows Easy which slows her down and Stop. I'll add Back up as well. It's a pleasure to watch your videos. I taught my 15 year old chorkie to jump over my arm in about 15 seconds. It was great! I love your videos and your manifesto! Keep 'em coming!!
wow! that was really inspiring! i will try this out. it looks like a really great alternative to fetch (for example if you are at the dog park and forgot your ball) and still a great exercice! thank you so much for your videos!
@smortydella yep! actually I do that! I forget a ball or frisbee, and then I send Splash around the trees and the reward is to get to play tug with her leash that I was walking her on (obviously you have to get the tugging on stimulus control so the dog doesnt tug on the leash as you walk!)
I love your vids..very educational..I have learned alot from you. One question, my dog gets really scared sometimes when i walk him, usually when he hears loud noises or when i walk buy a restaurant and they have a basement entrance to the restaurant outside, those metal doors that are pulled up to be open. When i walk on it he gets really scared, the avoids one when ever he sees it...What can i do.
I love your tutorials Emily, they're so easy to understand and I love how you break every step down! I hope one day I can teach Leo this! We're working on jumping over my arms, I'm using your method and it's working great! Thank you! :)
this gives me an idea for my German Shepherd Wolf mix who loves to learn and please and needs LOTS of excersize :) lol
Could you give me some ideas on getting a dog to do the things that are asked of her without a treat? My american eskimo will only do things when she knows she is getting a treat. I've tried fading a lure but as soon as she realized that she wasnt getting anymore treats she walked off :/ she loves loves loves food so yeah Any advice will be greatly appreciated :)
@RikUSlaVeY arg... that is yet another video I need to make! :) if you start using the environment as a reward that can help a lot- so for example- asking for a behavior, and the reward is getting to meet another dog, or a person or getting to go out the door. When the dog figures out the things she wants are contingent on doing the behavior you asked she will be more happy to do things when food is not present (that is just one piece of the puzzle!)
I think I'll try this game today, seems fun!

Hi!This command is equal to or different from when the dog turns around us?

This is a great idea, I've never thought to use the trees like this but I'll try as soon as we will have better weather.
