  • ed harris shouldve been the general in avatar! thumbs up if you agree!

  • Michael bay and Hans Zimmer ROCK!!

  • This is probably the only Michael Bay film i would call good (even great). He has other films that are enjoyable of course, but this one is just fucking great.

  • @DaveTheBunny this is the only michael bay film worth watching. at least in my mind.

  • General Hummel equals General Sheperd

    Am I right ???

    Thumbs up if you agree

  • @NeutralPeacekeeper thumbs down you thumbs up whore!

  • That salute in the rain is the one of the most perfect things I have ever seen.

  • My favorite scene from my favorite movie.

  • @charlieking100 i think it was nam

  • wellrockwweyouout

  • wow this intro is real sick

  • Michael Bay's best movie, too bad now does only children's movie.

  • General Hummel reminds of General Sheperd in MW2...

  • @NeutralPeacekeeper No General Sheperd should remind you of General Hummel since he came first lol

  • @dl30wpb I mean't that,by my meaning is slower than my writing ,so don't LOL on me :)

  • The movie is awesome.........probably the best action blockbuster of the 90's......but Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's music played a huge part as well one of the best soundtracks ever and this remains arguably the best action movie I've ever seen

  • goosebumps overall ITS toooooo NORMALY GOOD

  • "I miss you so much, there's something i could not do Barb, something i couldn't do while you were here. I tried, you know i tried everything and i still don't have their attention. Let's hope this elevates their thinking but whatever happens, please don't think less of me."

    Best Line into the Movie

  • This is the best ever opening in a movie. and a bunch of great soundtracks in the hole movie two thumbs up :D

  • force recon marines have no back up they have accepted that its sad tho

  • one of the best movie ever.... *cheers*

  • ah silly youtube, I search for The Rock I get The Rock.... O_o

  • The part that always gives me a shiver is when Ed Harris walks by the honor guard in full dress blues, complete with massive salad bar, and throws up that salute (one that actually looks as it should, which is something you usually don't see in movies). It's around 2:05 or so. I don't know why that stirs something in me...maybe there's just something majestic about those Marine blues.

  • Best Movie of all times!!!

  • The best movie intro ever

  • @theVDsoundtrackvideo Try Brigadier General of the United States Marine Corps, not a solider, a marine

  • there was a time when Michael bay used had storyline in his movies.

  • @charlieisgone

"The Rock" barely had any story to speak of either, though certainly a heck of a lot more than most Michael Bay movies. The truth is that this film wouldn't have been much better than a made for TV movie without Nick Cage, Sean Connery, and the soundtrack. The chemistry between those two was hilarious and fantastic, and the music brought the movie to life. Otherwise it would just have been another Michael Bay film..which is to say pretty forgettable.

  • @mco119 i cudnt disagree more, though i guess its true if your trying to compare an action movie to oscar nominee dramas. the story had a purpose that felt credible, the flow of the movie was constantly evolving as it wasn't obvious how the direction of events was to unfold. And throughout the movie, all of the main characters were developed slowly and masterfully. This was an exceptionally well made movie all the way around.

  • @TheInfernal36

Well...agree to disagree. Nothing wrong with that:)

  • @TheInfernal36

I'd disagree with every point but one: there was a character that was developed well, namely Hummel (Ed Harris). He was a little more complicated than the cardboard characters we usually see in Michael Bay's movies. Harris helped put the focus on the moral ambiguity of many of the situations encountered in the "real world;" things are rarely purely wrong or purely right. He did a GREAT job portraying a guy that was really struggling with what it meant to do the "right thing."

  • I think Tregard sums up 6:58 quite nicely.

    oh..... nasty

  • btw whats the music that starts at 4:03 ??????? ive been looking every fucking where for it!

  • It's apart of "hummel gets the rockets" It's all one song and starts at 4:28.

  • @cuzgandalfgothigh99

It's from a song from the Official Soundtrack.

The song is called "Hummel Gets the Rockets" and the part you're looking for starts at 4:28 in that song.

Snippets of it also occur in other songs from the OST such as "In the Tunnels".

  • all politicians and rulers in the u.s. government should be fucking hanged for their corruption and injustice.

  • one of hans zimmer's best works

    michael bay's best work

in short, one of the greatest movies of all time!

    like if you agree!

  • @robinvanrooijen I agree, but change Michael Bay's best to his only good work.

  • Hans Zimmer is an artist and a genius. Michael Bay's best film.

  • Comment removed

  • best Michael Bay film by a mile

  • Brutal but non-lethal.

  • nice opening scene?

Its a fuckin great opening scene.

  • @SonofKorn2007 putang ina mo dn..

  • @janmikel578 ???????

  • "they are not coming for us, are they, sir?"....

  • it hurts knowing how the government treat our service me

all i can say is let support our soldiers

  • I don't consider myself a movie buff but this, by far, is my favorite movie intro and my favorite movie theme.

  • They left their man in the chamber, they have no different from the gov.

    They are hypocrites!

  • Please, don't think less of me..:((

  • They are not coming for us... Are they Sir ?!!

  • Ed Harris a very good actor.. like Nicolas Cage..

but music is the best !

    Hans Zimmer forever ...

  • "I come before you to protest a grave injustice" I salute everyone who has done our country honorable service thank you for your courage

  • 1:35 Ironic that he put out is ring and die in this movie and that the same ring saves his live in the The Abyss

    Srr for the bad English

  • I love how the background radio chatter of Operation desert storm gives me goosebumps

  • The greatest Intro to any movie I have ever seen. I speak the truth!

  • You see where the desire to kill unprecedented amounts of people gets you? I prefer to stick to old-fashioned mall shootings to get my point across. You may say I'm old-fashioned, but what can I say?

  • i love this kind of music, amazing.

    so powerful and brilliant..

Hans zimmer, is truly a master peace.

  • @APRtunedAudi Bullshit

  • I always come here when I want an adrenaline rush.

  • Just had a boner

  • At 1:10 "They're not coming for us are they, sir?" ... sends chills up my spine every time I watch this.

  • @HIghBlutdruck

Indeed. That single, one-liner makes you FEEL the abandonment. This was one HELL of a movie.

  • @HIghBlutdruck every single fucking time.

  • I know what you mean. I would hate to be a Marine or any other soldier and be in that kind of situation.

  • Ed Harris gave me goosebumps... What an actor. He resembles Erwin Rommel a lot.

  • @14Srb88 It's hard to believe this guy was in milk money at one point. *shudders*

  • @anotherguttersnipe Haha, only 2 years before The Rock. I guess he needed he's chance to show what he got to offer.

  • You could have basically walked into the theater after 75% of the movie was over and you pretty much would not have missed anything

  • Transformers 3(or 4? I don't remember) was good, but nowhere as good as this movie

THe first half of the movie was kinda boring and I started to get irritated, then the next quarter was good, and the last quarter was really good, but looking at the overall picture, the movie was just plain good -- nothing beyond that

Green Lantern I didn't like bc 75% of the movie was just talking and sappy stuff; there were only about 3 action scenes: the first 2 were brief, the last was okay but again,

  • 11 people escaped out of Alcatraz

  • Hans Zimmer orchestrated the soundtrack for this movie true story

If you don't knwo Hans Zimmer, you don't know modern music true story

  • @Eleetnessful you do know that Hans Zimmer used to be a music composer for pornos right?? lol

well you gotta start somewhere in the entertainment industry l guess.

  • @1shoryuken R U SERIOUS? SHUTUP! I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO COMPARTMENTALIZE THAT

    CHECK:

    ONWARDS OST

DEADLINE OST -> THE ONLY EASY DAY...WAS YESTERDAY PT. 2 OST

    MODERN WARFARE 2 INTRO

THEE MOST EPIC OF HANS ZIMMER

  • @Eleetnessful meh... l think l will stick with the great works he has made for softcore porn.

  • @1shoryuken lol

  • the point of that was just to show that where i come from, were no strangers to war and when men and women die in service i respect them more than i do michael jackson, thats not to say i dont respect michael jackson, i do and i love his music, but you cant compare someones music to someones life and if you do well, you aint got your head on properly, but i understand if your soldiers dont fight and die then you have nothing to worry about

  • "General, They're lightin us up like a Fire storm" .. That situation has resemblance to Saddam's henchmen using fire throwers in the Persian Gulf War...

    God Bless the United States

  • American Spirit at its best!!! God Bless the United States and its Soldiers and Citizens!!

  • The "Please, don't think less of me..." breaks my heart! ;(

Gen. Hummel is such a tragic caracter!

  • @Dildolars General Hummel not a Tragic Character... He's a man of Honor... !!

  • I love General Hummel and what he stands for. He is the real protagonist of this movie.

  • Oh man, I want that suit.

  • @MicroGia earn it

  • WTF i think they killed army officers defending that installation

they shot a fucking ball at one dude at fell through a window probably dying

general hummel fucking killing soldiers yet hes pissed how they treated

  • @ProtossX in the movie they report that no one was killed aside from the dude in the chem room... guess the guard survived the fall hehe. Beside he is not asking for them not to be killed, but for the pentagon to help the families of special operation soldiers who die during covert operations (ie unofficial).

  • @i5py Thankfully today there is the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. They take care of families of Special Operators and their kid's college tuition is pretty much paid for

  • 1:12 the music gave me goosebumps, wow amazing score and fantastic movie

  • @TheFullHDtube liked b4 i saw 1:12..

  • I care more for a mans life, even if i didnt know him, he was a man and he gave his life for his country and all he gets is a picture of his coffin in the newspaper its sickening and then some shit burial, the truth is they should all get the best burials possible for being so unselfish and giving their lives protecting their countries, they should all get more money than any singer gets, and they dont get enough respect for what they do, this film is really right with its story bout neglect.

  • Hans Zimmer = Movie score genius!

  • @Foldy435 this one was not by hans zimmer though, it was by Harry Gregson-Williams

  • One of the best movie opening scenes ever!

  • @lghawdxi

    I second that

  • "like" if the navy seals storming bin laden's compound and killing him brought you here

  • Is that a marines parade uniform that Ed Harris is wearing here? It looks really beautiful. What a nice uniform.

  • @ares12790 He is wearing a Dress Blue uniform.

  • @cocoaBUTTERGEISHA thanks for that. I was just wondering what he was wearing because the uniform looks to amazing.

  • @ares12790 The are AMAZING! you might want to check out the USMC Silent Drill team.

  • @cocoaBUTTERGEISHA they are the one's that do that amazing gun flips and throws drill right? If they are the one's you are talking about then yes I love watching them!!!! They have great skill and co-ordination!!! I respect them a lot. Sorry I was born and I live in England, UK so I don't really know that much about the US military. I just wanted to find out about some stuff about the US military. Thanks mate

  • @ares12790 Thats them. I can answer just about anything dealing with the U.S. Marines, but as far as the whole military i will do my best. I am a Marine. Hope your not a Man U fan.

  • @cocoaBUTTERGEISHA that's cool man. I'm an arsenal fan. I hate Man U. I'm a law student in my final year at uni of Birmingham. I also live in Birmingham. Also you know with the USMC drill team how long does it take to learn how to do all that silent gun drill? Also can USMC drill team platoon actually fight in a war or are the drill team just there to do the silent drill on parade and wow an audience?

  • @ares12790 They are called the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team and they are all infantry Marines that are selected to join the team while in SOI (School of Infantry)/ITB (Infantry Training Battalion). I’m not sure how long it takes them to be that good, but one thing I know is that you better be a quick learner or your gone hate being a Marine if you don’t. They typically have a 2 year duty assignment in the team. I have been to England a couple of times, but not Birmingham.

  • and...why the h*** is the movie named "the rock"!

  • @krispy80films because the marines hold hostages on alcatraz prison, the nickname of which is called "The Rock"

  • wowwww Hans Zimmer (composer of MW2) ALSO did THIS movie!

  • @uruberrr This music rocks :D

  • one of the best scenes in movie history...

  • if you hit someone so hard, they flip backwards..the're as good as gone!

  • Don't know why but I love the scene where the marines salute him when they walk past.

  • It's a very beautiful movie ! :-)

    I like this ! (I'm French, sorry)

  • best opening scene of a film ever!!!

  • Why do they always betray their own side? Why did they trap that poor man in the room? I really hate it when they do that ) :< it's so un chyvlrouse.

  • @meatisdeliciouse if they didnt they would all die :S

  • @steveirwinledgend I think there were enough seconds to spare, I would have let him through, if not, I wouldent just stand there watching the poor guy dying, I would have killed him so he could at least die quickley and relitavley painessley, however you spell it. If I were in that position and somone was dying horibly, I would mercifuly put them out their agony, rather than just let them suffer great amounts of pain.

  • @meatisdeliciouse How could they have killed him without exposing themselves to the gas????????

  • Is this the rock where they have VX gas, or is it a differnt film. The substance they are talking about in the rock, is actualy a dramatised version of VX gas. VX gas is extreamly toxic, it only takes 30 microgrammes to kill a person, a tiny amount.

  • To all soldiers out there facing life and death everyday. May God watch over each and everyone of you. For many do not see the sacrifices you make everyday to preserve freedom. God Bless you all

  • I've got shivers by just watching the first 3 minutes.. best opening scene ever!!!

  • 6:48 Put on a fucking Gas Mask you idiot!

  • @360Nomad good point, although i thought they only had to be in contact with the gas rather than breath it in?

  • @clananik The M40 gas mask is warranted to protect against Nerve Agents.

  • The biggest music... Thanks hans Zimmer.

  • I find it so hard to see the mercenaries as the antagonists.

  • @thepastyman91 Yeah I know, it is really hard to tell, but they did break the law by taking hostages and threatening to kill hundreds or thousands of people even though they really weren't going to do that at first. It's like they started as the Protagonists and then turned into the Antagonists

  • Fantastic song - Hans Zimmer is GOD!!!!!

  • this in HD god i love for uploading this thank you..

  • The part where they lock the guy in the room is similar to the scene in Crimson Tide where they have to seal the dudes in the flooding room to save the sub. Interestingly, a lot of the same guys were involved in both. I know that there's a ton of other similarities such as the two unstable commanders, the incredibly badass music (e.g. anything written by Hans Zimmer), but that was so entirely, exactly the same I felt obligated to inform you all of it.

  • Great movie, but no Marine would have left that guy in the room when they clearly could have spared 2 seconds to let him get out.

  • @Seaprimate it's been bothering me too. but i think it shows that those marines are slowly turning into mercenaries. "no man left behind" is no longer important to them.

  • "They're not coming for us are they sir?"

  • @MurmaiderII this line should be in The Expendables somehow. lol.

  • I hear you brother !!!

  • Fantastic music!

  • This movie is so awesome, it feels like God himself directed this movie.

  • One of the best movies ever.

  • if iwas this guy, my heart would have die long ago.

  • i´d say 1 of the best ( if not the best ) movie intro scenes in history! and ofc this is my opinion so if you disagree feel free, i don´t really care. God bless free speach !

  • This scene conveys the sense of sadness and grief over fallen US Service members, pretty accurately. Been in the Corps almost 8 years now and this opening scene still sends shivers down my spine!

  • i think its sad because shit like this really happens, soldiers, marines give their lives and they're quickly forgotten, but were as lets say michael jackson, people will remember him over any marine, when really we all know the marine deserves to be remembered more for his bravery, its like a million marines could die, but more people would care more for MJ, like they do today, he was a fucking singer thats all, men like this in rl give their lives and for what? fucked up world we live in

  • @Brady2k10 A agree, but we actively see Micheal Jackson and everything about him. We're not shown stuff like this for obvious reasons. Soldiers have been shit on since the beginning of time. What makes a marine any different from a Roman soldier, or Celtic who were stabbed or cut open? Remember all you died for their country. A lot have and regardless of who they were fighting for or whether it's right or wrong. They died for it, respect that.

  • @SupaTROopa2 yea but when it comes down to what they do, i mean whats more important a song you like or a mans life, thats what it comes down too, and the mjority of people care more about the artist who sings there favourite songs rather than a man who died fighting for his country and countrymen and women, it aint right. Its like you see soldiers from Iraq coming home dead in coffins, its in the newspaper for a day, then thats it. MJ was in the news for about a month solid when he died.

  • @Brady2k10 you are wrong

  • Comment removed

  • @annelov did he now? soldiers die fighting for their countries and to protect their fellow countrymen and women, michael jackson sang songs for a living thats purely entertainment, so entertainment value or someone willing to die protecting people like yourself, whos really giving the most there? the soldier. But your a prime example of what i mean, a soldier dies no one gives a shit about him, MJ dies and the whole world is cying about it, when really the soldier gave his life for the people.

  • Comment removed

  • @annelov fair enough but the soldiers in my country fight and have fought in numerous wars and we're tiny compared to the other powerful countries like US, China, Germany, France and Russia but we still manage to stay up there and its certainly not because of our numbers, but the skill of our numbers is unmatched. If we were the size of say the US, we'd rule the world, hell we even owned a quarter of the world at one point with our empire, was bigger than the roman emprie.

  • @annelov MJ did more for you because he blew your tiny little micro-dick. also you're a fucking homo for your asshole statement. if the soldiers now and in the past hadn't done what they did FOR YOU and everyone you know, then you wouldn't have the freedoms you have. you should thank marines and soldiers, they DID do shit for you, MJ didn't DEFEND this country, you stupid prick, go to hell

  • Comment removed

  • @annelov Just remember son, that freedom isn't free....but that's okay, because The Marine Corps will pay most of your share. We don't ask that you like us, or wear a t-shirt, or be super motivated. It would be nice if you were respectful though. "I would rather you said thank you, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand at post"-Jack Nicholson from 'A Few Good Men'

  • Comment removed

  • @annelov Never said you were supporting the terrorist and I'm not going to argue with you because you fail to see beyond your own borders. What country are you from anyway?

  • Comment removed

  • @annelov Of course it doesn't because if anything went down in Sweden they would have backing from the UN which means backing at least in some part from the U.S. If an incident ever did occur in Sweden requiring ground troops to be assembled among the first boots on the ground (after Recon/Spec Ops to gather Intel and help) would be Marines. All of this rhetoric about no war and nobody doing anything for you comes from someone who sits comfortably in an allied country enjoying freedoms we help..

  • @annelov ...in providing. I've had friends train with troops in Sweden in Arctic Warfare and if you ask any of your guys over there they'd thank God for having the US as an Ally. People claim America to be cocky and arrogant, but look back on times of crisis and a majority of the time the U.S. stepped up to the plate when nobody else would; WWII, Desert Storm, Somalia/Mogadishu (all without the backing of Bill Clinton and Congress to boot in that case).

  • @SOCOMSoldier01

You forgot Korea...think the south koreans are happy we defended them from the communist north?

  • @dannielz6 I'll never forget, nor will I forget the others. Too many to list on here.

  • @annelov in certain times in history killing is necessary and to maintain a democratic or democratic like country, it must be defended violently by people willing to do so. So go do your homework and be a realist instead of an idealist and get back to me when you find out you haven't supposedly been at war for "400 years". I'm out, God bless the US, our troops, and our ally's and theirs.

  • Funny how at the end the families of the soldiers whom the general was trying to get funds too still got screwed and no one cared

  • @t66wood at least he tried

  • Then was Michael Bay still good. Now he is only making Transformers bullshit.

  • One of Michael Bay's best opening scenes.

  • 4:14 BOOOM HEADSHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • good movie but theres alot of plot holes marines dont wear berets those idiots "captains" wouldnt of made it past the mental check and i know because my father is a Major (Major Pellegrino) in the Marines and he laughs saying hummel the major and the sgt black guy that didnt wanna launch are the only realistic Marines. also everyone saying Seals wouldve won THEY HAVE THE SAME TYPE OF TRAINING THE SEALS ARE THE MARINES IN THEIR BRANCH the seals learn more close quarter fighting thats it goodbye
