Great video! I agree with your choices, especially Frank Lorenzo!
One that you missed that I would have added to this is Joseph R. O'Gorman, from Frontier Airlines, Aloha Airlines, and others. He was another Stephen Wolf.
No Don Carty? Made everyone at AA give up pay only to turn around and reward himself and his board until the union groups got him out? And don't forget going through billions of dollars in cash in just a few years. Dumb ass.
@68mnap Apparently u didn't work for him when: After going into bankruptcy - employees took 3 paycuts, 2 many concessions 2 count, no pension, overworked & under paid), but he STILL took his multi million dollar bonuses & multi million dollar pension. He is not only a sociopath, but he managed to take UA from one of the most respected Domestic carriers - to just embarrassing! He ruined lives 4 his own narcissistic benefit.
764fan I can't believe you omitted TWA liquidator/scam artist/thief Carl Icahn & his follow up Scum Bag in training use car salesman pat-time pilot W.F. Compton those two have to be at the end with Frank Lorenzo!~
what about Donald Carty of American Airlines? He stole millions of dollars from the employees and put it into his pockets and the pockets of the other managers and investors.
Perfect song. Frank Lorenzo, the Airline Slayer. When he dies (if he's not already dead), I hope Eddie Rickenbacker and the original Eastern Airlines owners are waiting for him to kick his butt!!!
Wow Delta TWO guys ??. Doug Parker.....I still can't believe that guy came from here at CO and was part of Bethune's team at one point. The sad part is the employees at the airlines get the brunt of the publics rage on a daily basis.
Dude I wish southwest had herb and collen like they are the most fun people to work with I mean gary kelly is good but I think herb and collen are better
You forgot Dick Ferris of UA--and Allegis Corporation, the conglomerate from hell. And there is a special place for Carl Icahn--even more so than Lorenzo. Icahn deliberately ripped and stripped TW.
I have family who worked for Republic and Northwest (now for Delta) and they never had a CEO at NWA that ever gave a crap about employees. Doug Steenland, Steve Rothmeier, John Dasburg, Checci, Wilson, ect. are all a bunch of self-centered hogs who never helped employee morale
Kerry skeen is a major asshole to be an airlines ceo you have to kiss as much ass as possible. You just have to know ass kissing 101 look at delta you can suck at your job a they give there mang raise
I think that is part but some ruined healthy airlines they took over and sent them heading downwards. They then asked the workers to give concessions to make up for the money lost through bad decisions. After that was done, strapped on their Golden Parachutes, bonuses and stock options and bailed.
probably what makes them assholes is the fact that they get pay millions, and their responsibilities include "being prepared to cope with difficult financial situations", instead they take huge checks when everything is ok, but when there is trouble they take the money and blame others.
Piloting is a job that requires sound judgment. sorry, but I have to seriously question the judgment of a guy who spends upward of $150,000. in order o get a job that pays about the same hourly rate as a pizza delivery driver.
The top management of all too many airlines have used the coffers as their own personal piggy banks, while the people who try to make things work are left standing out in the cold.
It is closer to about 50-60K unless you combine it with a college degree. And the low wages are entry level. If all goes well you are making 6 figures in 4-10 years. There is also the fact that many pilots have a flying addiction. It is a pleasant form of mental illness.
...and what did you expect a 21 year old kid to do flying a Cessna 172, flight instruction with no financial or legal protection for $15,0000 a year? Regional airlines pay nothing, because they can its NOT the fault of a young ambitious kid with a dream. Many of the exec's use the free market to their advantage. IF the traveling public finds these wages disturbing they should push the Fed's to RE-regulate it.
I work for Hawaiian Airlines and Mark Dunkerly is the Best CEO the company has ever had in it's 80 year history.....We have been number 1 for on time and has been ranked best airline in America.
@dramatyzedboi I agree. Mark Dunkerley does NOT deserve to be on this list! He is doing a damn good job as HA CEO and that is to look out for the company. I am a son of a Hawaiian Airlines retiree, and have spoken to him personally. How many airline employees (or their family members) can say THAT about their CEOs?
I totally agree about Frank Lorenzo. That dumb bastard messed up the best airlines in the world which was Eastern Airlines. Thanks to him, many such as pilots, mechanics, and flight attendants whcih worked with the airline for so many years had to start ALL the from scractch again after putting 20 to 30 +years of their commitment in the airline. Thanks alot, U dumb bastard.
Eastern was going off a cliff before Lorenzo showed up, though he was no saint. Without him it still would have died, just maybe a few years later. Costs were just too high and unions too militant.
But here is a funny one. It was so bad one pilot used to turn on the "black box" and immediately say, "If we crash, to my wife, honey I love you. And f--- you Frank Lorenzo."
So if I'm to get this right. Alaska Airlines is better then Delta Airlines? Wow for the love of god people you know why Delta, United , US Airways, Continental, American Airlines cut there costs in different areas? Because you people keep wanting to fly cheaper and cheaper airlines. In other words the CEOs of the top major US airlines have to choice but to cut there costs. But hey you get what you pay for. Me I will stay with Delta/NW ever one else can go for Alaska Airlines.
Why is Air Canada not represented on this they seem to just be US Airlines but hey Air Canada suck big time so they need to be added or really the CEO Montey Brewer I believe fits the description
It's interesting that you mention Doug Parker, because America West's most successful strategy (and downfall - depending on the economic situation) was that every single mainline flight flew in and out of either Phoenix or Las Vegas.
Good luck trying to fly, let's say, from Boston to Washington D.C. (both situated along the East Coast) without having to go west, and then stop over and change planes in the desert - unless America West happened to merge with U.S. Airways or something.
Very good, but you forgot one key player in the worst CEO line-up. C. Edward Acker who started the destruction of Braniff, went to Air Florida created a mess and then off to Pan Am - and we see where all 3 ended up.
Carl Ichan should be 2nd worst next to Lorenzo!!! IMHO he totally destroyed TWA through selling valuable routes (such as NYC to London Heatrow) and his Karabu[sp] deal, which forced TWA to sell unlimited tickets to Ichan for half of their worth. There's a special place in hell for Ichan and Lorenzo for ruining the lives of thousands of airline employees.
why is it the people who care the least about aviation and airlines seem to get these jobs from outside the aviation oh lets not forget my former employer don carty
Frickin' HILARIOUS!! But I am going to disagree about Ron Allen. From what I've read about him, he was a TRUE Southern gentleman. Delta only went to hell when Uncle Leo (carpetbagger with no airline experience) took over. Also, another good candidate for this list would be Ed Acker (Pan Am).
Did you work for Delta, I did for 30 years. Retired as a 767-400 Captain in 2002 Ron almost destroyed Delta, Leo just finished the job. Ron's 7.5 program and his merger with Pam American were both disasters! Check your facts. Both were totally Incompetent.
No, I haven't worked for Delta or any airline, since I'm only 25. But I do have a great interest in the politics and history of the industry. I guess what my point is, is that while Ron Allen may not have been the best, at least he was an airline man (worked for DL nearly his whole working life) and not some corporate bean-counter.
100% agreed with Lorenzo! Of course then Bethune came to CO and it pretty much evened out. I'm not sure if Hodge is really a bad CEO, because Skybus was just a RETARDED idea. I can't believe people sunk money into that Greyhound knockoff. The entire idea was just so stupid.
World's worst? They're all U.S. based airlines. Surely there are some bad airline CEOs in the other parts of the world. I will have to admit you hit the nail on the head with the worst however...nice song too.
Lorenzo for sure takes the cake. I wonder why he isn't in prison, for single handedly running Eastern into the ground-an airline that was doing quite well before he took over. All he wanted was to bust the labor unions and stopped nothing to, instead of running an airline.
Your forgetting Richard Anderson.... Everyone who is MSP based with NWA wants to sing that a--holes praises, but NO ONE seems to remember that Doug Steenland, AND Richard Anderson were BOTH on Frank Lorenzo's payroll during the demise and destruction of all the airlines He screwed over.
lovely.....Mike Hodge, could he possibly be the winner of the shortest stint as CEO before bankruptcy? Bill Diffenderfer needs his mug shot in there as well, since he really brought us down then got pushed off the ship.
Who could possibly make this video (which was a great idea by the way) and NOT put Carl Icahn in there? And what about Compton, the TWA pilot-turned CEO who sold our souls - and our job security - down the toilet to American Airlines? May as well add Arpey on there while you're at it. In other words, this video is missing a few minutes - why not edit it and add these major deletions?
NO KIDDING ABOUT ICAHN! I'm happy Gerard Arpey was spared of this list. While things are not exactly "roses" here at American, things are actually better for us than at some other airlines.
I cannot believe DON CARTY wasn't on this list when he got busted for arranging tons of "retention bonuses" worth millions after successfully acquiring millions of dollars in concessionary agreements with our labor unions! ADD DON CARTY, Gerard Arpey's predecessor at American Airlines!
Yes! How could I forget Don Carty - yet another airline executive scumbag. He should be rotting in a prison somewhere, along with ALL the rest of these dirt bags on the list.
The USAir CEO, Doug Parker, better known to his employees as Chug-a-lug Doug or DougWeisser is really another Frank Lorenzo, but with a bed side manner.
It is true that airline management has been pitiful since deregulation, when they lost government protection from their bad decisions. However, I am afraid labor (and their unions) deserve a lot of credit for the industry's problems. Each new labor agreement in the 1990s was hailed as setting a new record for employee compensation and benefits. Southwest has proven that an airline can be run profitably and be consumer friendly if labor costs do not get out of hand.
And employee compensation and benefits are a bad thing? Southwest has the best paid pilots of the industry, outside some cargo airlines. Goes to show, how you take care of your employees, your company will prosper. A concept some CEO's probably will never get.
ronkurtz, reading your comment s reagrding the unions,me thinks the song was written about you. you must be an airline manager to spew that garbage blaming labor. the CEOs are the leaches that fucked up all the airlines in the first place. I hope all the motherfuckers have an anyeurism in front of their families on christmas morning. you are a pathetic fuck for even waking up in the morning . do all the working folks a favor and go step in front of a speeding bus
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Lame.....Doug Parker is not bad.
Icann was bad. Pritzker was bad. Ornstein is the antichrist.Wolfe was bad. Lorenzo was a penis. David Banmiller is terrible. Martin Shrugrue was dreadful.
Thanks for telling the rest of the world what the airline industry already knew. They are INDEED @ssholes. And they will have to answer for the wrongs they committed against the workforce while enriching themselves. Remember Ken Lay.
Yes they might be ass***** they might have brought down multupal airlines like frank did to eastern but they make more than 2 million dollars a year i am sure they can care less!

Let us never forget Frank Borman. He and Lorenzo share the Worst of the Worst category. Ruined Eastern Airlines and never looked back!!!

don't forget doug parker, 3 dui's and counting
jkstr372 3 years ago 3
Your forgetting Richard Anderson.... Everyone who is MSP based with NWA wants to sing that a--holes praises, but NO ONE seems to remember that Doug Steenland, AND Richard Anderson were BOTH on Frank Lorenzo's payroll during the demise and destruction of all the airlines He screwed over.

What about Ed Acker from Air Florida and Pan Am fame?
sfclipper 3 years ago
lovely.....Mike Hodge, could he possibly be the winner of the shortest stint as CEO before bankruptcy? Bill Diffenderfer needs his mug shot in there as well, since he really brought us down then got pushed off the ship.

Who could possibly make this video (which was a great idea by the way) and NOT put Carl Icahn in there? And what about Compton, the TWA pilot-turned CEO who sold our souls - and our job security - down the toilet to American Airlines? May as well add Arpey on there while you're at it. In other words, this video is missing a few minutes - why not edit it and add these major deletions?
krs3420 3 years ago
NO KIDDING ABOUT ICAHN! I'm happy Gerard Arpey was spared of this list. While things are not exactly "roses" here at American, things are actually better for us than at some other airlines.
I cannot believe DON CARTY wasn't on this list when he got busted for arranging tons of "retention bonuses" worth millions after successfully acquiring millions of dollars in concessionary agreements with our labor unions! ADD DON CARTY, Gerard Arpey's predecessor at American Airlines!
oneworldguy 3 years ago
Yes! How could I forget Don Carty - yet another airline executive scumbag. He should be rotting in a prison somewhere, along with ALL the rest of these dirt bags on the list.
krs3420 3 years ago
Doug Parker makes the list but Carl Icann doesn't? This video needs revision.

Don't anyone forget Frank Borman of Eastern and Ed Acker of Pan Am and Air Florida. Two of the very worst!

As Wall Street analyst Ray Neidl once remarked:
"Airlines are run by buffoons who couldn't make a profit running a brothel outside of any army base".
I remember when Bryce Mackasey was Chairman of Air Canada, and was always half under the wind...a precursor to Doug Parker.
Add Emilio Romano of Mexicana to the list...he has certainly ruined a once-great carrier.

"Southwest has proven that an airline can be run profitably and be consumer friendly if labor costs do not get out of hand".
Southwest pilots are one of the highest paid in the industry. Good management and good employees synergy.
maxangleofdangle 3 years ago 5
Southwest is more efficient in terms of labor costs per ASM and RPM than any of the legacy airlines.
ronkurtz31442 3 years ago
And employee compensation and benefits are a bad thing? Southwest has the best paid pilots of the industry, outside some cargo airlines. Goes to show, how you take care of your employees, your company will prosper. A concept some CEO's probably will never get.
saxmanb777 3 years ago 2
ronkurtz, reading your comment s reagrding the unions,me thinks the song was written about you. you must be an airline manager to spew that garbage blaming labor. the CEOs are the leaches that fucked up all the airlines in the first place. I hope all the motherfuckers have an anyeurism in front of their families on christmas morning. you are a pathetic fuck for even waking up in the morning . do all the working folks a favor and go step in front of a speeding bus

Lame.....Doug Parker is not bad.
Icann was bad. Pritzker was bad. Ornstein is the antichrist.Wolfe was bad. Lorenzo was a penis. David Banmiller is terrible. Martin Shrugrue was dreadful.
But....Airline Unions are 10X worse than any CEO.

VERY NICE! but how in the WORLD did Bill Diffenderffer from Skybus Airlines escape this list?!?!?
brandienbill 3 years ago
Thanks for telling the rest of the world what the airline industry already knew. They are INDEED @ssholes. And they will have to answer for the wrongs they committed against the workforce while enriching themselves. Remember Ken Lay.
