I know it's in the 10 commandments to honor thy mother and father but I find that very hard to do. I come from a broken family, parents got divorced and pretty much abandoned my sister and myself. Haven't talked to either my mother or father in over 10 yrs, and when my sister died neither of my parents even knew or cared that she passed away only learning it happened by reading the obituaries in the news paper. So how do I honor my mother and father like it says to do in the 10 commandments?
You have to forgive your parents regardless of what they've done. Forgiving them doesn't justify anything they did to you, but it releases you from the spiritual bondage that unforgiveness creates. Jesus freely and openly forgives us, so it would not be right for us to do anything less for others. The bible is clear that if we don't forgive others, we won't be forgiven.
So, forgive your parents and anyone else, then move on with your life.

@arjmcf The word used in Greek is a noun form of the verb abide. Here the Lord Jesus seems to be saying, “I am your abode, and you shall abide in Me. You are My abode, and I shall abide in you. I am going to prepare an abode in God the Father. The Father wants to receive you all. There is no such thing as a kind of house or room we dell in ones we are in heaven after we die. ( we are in heaven already -so where is the room or house ?) Its so wonderful we have a mutual indwelling now.

Most Christians have a misunderstanding about going to Heaven. The only man that has gone to heaven and will go to heaven is Jesus. God's will is to have His kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven. This kingdom will be called the New Jerusalem and Christ will reign there with his counterpart the Church which we're part of. Most Christians even the "famous" ones miss this mark.

Man is below God and the angels. There is an order in God's house.
@LordsWatchDog God is in heaven, but His presence will be with His people on earth. Read the end of the book of Rev. when it starts talking about the New Jerusalem. God is everywhere. That doesn't mean that we can be everywhere as well even in the next life.

You're certainly not wrong about dwelling in the New Jeerusalem, but the part you're missing is that the raptured saints and martyrs will dwell in Heaven (the Father's house) until everyone returns with Jesus at the 2nd coming.

Even the angels will ask, "Who are these?" The saints were to wait there until all the others join them. So yes you're right. @arjmcf I agree that many who claim to be saved lack godliness... but as long as we all remember, the Holy Spirit in us (ie the result of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection) makes us righteous in God's eyes even though our flesh is weak. Jesus bore our iniquities because not one of us is righteous on our own accord. Then on our walk with Jesus we will find ourselves striving for righteousness. Though none of us will actually achieve it, as far as the Father sees, we already have.

@arjmcf Because God doesn't control anybody... this is not His nature. When we know Jesus we (eagerly desire to) become more like Him. Although we can never be perfect like He was (even with the indwelling Holy Spirit), our aim should always be the narrow gate. Having the Spirit of God does not make us perfect, except for the substitution that took place on Calvary. Why are we beating a dead horse? Your salvation isn't based upon whether you see this my way... nor vice versa.

Rom 3:10... and also "If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." 1John 1:10... so by your definition of perfection created by the indwelling Holy Spirit, we can come to the assumption that NOBODY apart from Jesus had the indwelling Holy Spirit. What about John the baptist? He had the Spirit from birth... yet he wasn't perfect. You see where I'm going with this?

A preacher friend of mine has a saying "actions evidence the heart" . I think in James 2v19 it says even the demons believe ! in the context of faith and deeds.

To be born again it starts with faith. Faith that God sent his only begotten son to die and rise for the sins of man. If one believes in this truth they are not judged by the law. Refer to John 3:18. Judgment from the law is one thing but we still must be born again. John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent, so must the Son of man be lifted. In this story the serpent was lifted after the Israelites repented. So if we repent we will be lifted and purify like the serpent. Flesh kills no more.

@arjmcf The difference is premeditation. A true born again believer does not sin with premeditation. They may inadvertently sin but will not knowingly sin. The conviction of the Spirit is so strong that it stops you in your tracks before you sin. God bless you!

@arjmcf I do know because I experience it. Something supernatural happen to me. I heard God speak to me in and audible voice through dreams. I was not a religious person. I did not go to church. I never read the bible. I had addiction. I knew this addiction was keeping me away from my relationship with God. I asked Him to take it away. As soon as I was done uttering the words it was gone. Knowing that you must be saved to enter the kingdom of God, we can take the verse "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9. Then we read "Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”" John 3:3.
These verses both point to salvation... confessing with your mouth (and believing in your heart) brings a new birth.

When we call on the name of Jesus Christ, repenting of our sin, HE enters into us (Rev. 3:20.) If you have not experienced this witness within yourself, you are not born again. There is no doubt about this. Yes, I speak with tongues and my comment about demons is through the gift of discernment, which Jesus gave me in 2010 when He also appeared to me. Call on Jesus!

I think the problem there *might* be if someone was to believe they're not technically saved until you die (you did say earlier that being saved and being born again were the same thing), one might actually rely too much on praying the sinner's prayer (and justifying a life of sin) rather than repenting and following Jesus until they die. Maybe I'm just being too sensitive, but it doesn't seem inline with what Jesus teaches.

When one confess one must trust in Jesus that when that person die(punishment for sin is death we can not get out of this) then Jesus will bring that person back to life(born again) This is call faith in Jesus, His promise to us. Jesus is the son of God, the only resurrected one, the only path to righteousness. He loves you dearly and desires a relationship with you. You see? Sowing the gospel is just that simple. @arjmcf Please research the term 'sanctification'. It essentially describes the walk of every Christian... taking off the old man and putting on the new. Salvation occurs before sanctification, not after... think of the thief on the cross... or Zacchaeus the tax collector. Both were promised salvation by Jesus because of their faith in Him, but neither had 'cleaned house' so to speak.

Of course one could confess with their mouth and not believe in their heart... and I'm sure it's been done many times (peer pressure etc)... but when you throw in repentance (turning from sin and to Jesus Christ), we see fruit, not just lip service. True repentance and confession does lead to salvation through Jesus Christ. "You will recognize them by their fruits..." Matthew 7:16

I know it's in the 10 commandments to honor thy mother and father but I find that very hard to do. I come from a broken family, parents got divorced and pretty much abandoned my sister and myself. Haven't talked to either my mother or father in over 10 yrs, and when my sister died neither of my parents even knew or cared that she passed away only learning it happened by reading the obituaries in the news paper. So how do I honor my mother and father like it says to do in the 10 commandments?

You have to forgive your parents regardless of what they've done. Forgiving them doesn't justify anything they did to you, but it releases you from the spiritual bondage that unforgiveness creates. Jesus freely and openly forgives us, so it would not be right for us to do anything less for others. The bible is clear that if we don't forgive others, we won't be forgiven.

As the Vine we abide in Him and He abides in us , therefore He is in us the hope of glory. Col 1:27. Thus if we are in Christ and Christ is in us, we are already in heaven as proven in Eph 2:6 and as such His body,sharing all He is and has.Eph 1 :22-23 .

@arjmcf The word used in Greek is a noun form of the verb abide. Here the Lord Jesus seems to be saying, “I am your abode, and you shall abide in Me. You are My abode, and I shall abide in you. I am going to prepare an abode in God the Father. The Father wants to receive you all. There is no such thing as a kind of house or room we dell in ones we are in heaven after we die. ( we are in heaven already -so where is the room or house ?) Its so wonderful we have a mutual indwelling now.

Most Christians have a misunderstanding about going to Heaven. The only man that has gone to heaven and will go to heaven is Jesus. God's will is to have His kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven. This kingdom will be called the New Jerusalem and Christ will reign there with his counterpart the Church which we're part of. Most Christians even the "famous" ones miss this mark.

@firecharger Nowhere in that verse does it say that you'll go to heaven. In fact, you will never find a verse that says you will be in heaven with God. Many mansions does not imply heaven. Just be aware that when you pray the Lords prayer which is the way God wants you say, "thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" Heaven is for God and His Angels. @LordsWatchDog God is in heaven, but His presence will be with His people on earth. Read the end of the book of Rev. when it starts talking about the New Jerusalem. God is everywhere. That doesn't mean that we can be everywhere as well even in the next life.

You're certainly not wrong about dwelling in the New Jeerusalem, but the part you're missing is that the raptured saints and martyrs will dwell in Heaven (the Father's house) until everyone returns with Jesus at the 2nd coming.

Even the angels will ask, "Who are these?" The saints were to wait there until all the others join them. So yes you're right. @arjmcf I agree that many who claim to be saved lack godliness... but as long as we all remember, the Holy Spirit in us (ie the result of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection) makes us righteous in God's eyes even though our flesh is weak. Jesus bore our iniquities because not one of us is righteous on our own accord. Then on our walk with Jesus we will find ourselves striving for righteousness. Though none of us will actually achieve it, as far as the Father sees, we already have.

@arjmcf Because God doesn't control anybody... this is not His nature. When we know Jesus we (eagerly desire to) become more like Him. Although we can never be perfect like He was (even with the indwelling Holy Spirit), our aim should always be the narrow gate. Having the Spirit of God does not make us perfect, except for the substitution that took place on Calvary. Why are we beating a dead horse? Your salvation isn't based upon whether you see this my way... nor vice versa.

To be born again it starts with faith. Faith that God sent his only begotten son to die and rise for the sins of man. If one believes in this truth they are not judged by the law. Refer to John 3:18. Judgment from the law is one thing but we still must be born again. John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent, so must the Son of man be lifted. In this story the serpent was lifted after the Israelites repented. So if we repent we will be lifted and purify like the serpent. Flesh kills no more.

@arjmcf The difference is premeditation. A true born again believer does not sin with premeditation. They may inadvertently sin but will not knowingly sin. The conviction of the Spirit is so strong that it stops you in your tracks before you sin. God bless you!

@arjmcf I do know because I experience it. Something supernatural happen to me. I heard God speak to me in and audible voice through dreams. I was not a religious person. I did not go to church. I never read the bible. I had addiction. I knew this addiction was keeping me away from my relationship with God. I asked Him to take it away. As soon as I was done uttering the words it was gone. I waited a week to see if it was truly gone. It was. I repented and He spoke to me that night. God bless Y.

Knowing that you must be saved to enter the kingdom of God, we can take the verse "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9. Then we read "Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”" John 3:3.
These verses both point to salvation... confessing with your mouth (and believing in your heart) brings a new birth.

When we call on the name of Jesus Christ, repenting of our sin, HE enters into us (Rev. 3:20.) If you have not experienced this witness within yourself, you are not born again. This is different than the indwelling Holy Spirit and is usually evident by the gift of tongues. If I hadn't received this wonderful gift from God recently, I would have never believed it. It's real. @arjmcf Ok brother, I understand that you don't believe we are truly born again until we are resurrected or raptured. I'm pretty sure I'm getting your point and I won't argue with it, it's not worth the frustration I'm sure you would agree. What really matters is that we all believe we have been saved through Jesus Christ. The rest of this discussion is stained by pride and doesn't belong in Christian conversations. If your claims can be backed up by scripture I'd love to research it.

@cdklassen2 Thank you I believe you got my point, Yes to being save. I only claim to scrioture is the one that say you must be born again to enter Heaven the arguement is when we recieve the spirit of being reborn in the flesh or in the spirit when we leave the flesh. We believe that we are save thought your heart and faith, that how Jesus save us by your faith in Him. Because of faith we will be born again when we die. This is what I believe Jesus meant. one is of flesh one is of spirit

@arjmcf Ok fair enough. It's a confusing text that's been plaguing man (even the disciples) for almost 2,000 years. All ego aside, do you mind me asking your take on the indwelling Holy Spirit and the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

@cdklassen2 suppose if I would of said it like this it might of save alot of time. When we are save we get a bonus card, a born again card, use at the gate of Heaven. Would that help.LOL

@arjmcf lol. It's an amusing way to look at salvation... I think the problem there *might* be if someone was to believe they're not technically saved until you die (you did say earlier that being saved and being born again were the same thing), one might actually rely too much on praying the sinner's prayer (and justifying a life of sin) rather than repenting and following Jesus until they die. Maybe I'm just being too sensitive, but it doesn't seem inline with what Jesus teaches.

@arjmcf I'm a little confused by your words... You said "Being saved and being born again are equivalent terms. They mean the same thing." And then you say you've been saved for many years, yet you say that being born again doesn't happen until after death. I'm not looking for trouble, it just seems to me the confusion lies because you join the term 'resurrected' with 'born again'. I truly don't think Jesus was talking to Nicodemus about resurrection. I will drop this if u like.

@cdklassen2 I never said the being save and born again is equivalent. When one confess one must trust in Jesus that when that person die(punishment for sin is death we can not get out of this) then Jesus will bring that person back to life(born again) This is call faith in Jesus, His promise to us. You believe the day we are save the spirit live within us which you call born again. I believe the same BUT that the born again happen after you die.

@arjmcf Actually, if you search your previous posts, you will see that I just cut and pasted that phrase. It confused me, but perhaps you misspoke. Freudian slip? Haha jk. I agree that the resurrection will be a new birth, but there is so much scripture backing up a rebirth beforehand. Nicodemus had much more worldly wisdom than I do I'm sure, but that's where he lacked... his wisdom was of the flesh, not the spirit (God). The entire tone of the New Testament is 'dying to self'.

@cdklassen2 I know Nicodemus was a good man so did Jesus I believe him understood what Jesus was telling maybe not at first but later. Yes it is a good talk i do like it. We all have a soul or spirit the minute we are conceived(I am prolife) Just got your last message and thank you. I not good with words and sometime I have a hard time explaining myself. @cdklassen2 ever watch Jesus of Nazath? remember Nicodemus talking to himself when Jesus was on the cross? sound as if you finally understood what Jesus told him early on. when you die and have been save are you resurrected? Yes! does you spirit leave the body(host)? Yes! Would you not say this is born again? I would. You come out of the womb, to die you come out of the body(host).

@arjmcf "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you." Rom 8:11. May I suggest we are both right? Our old spirit is indeed dead and has been replaced by the Spirit of God "who dwells in us" now. I can't help but come back to "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live..." Gal 2:20. Good talk brother! Thanks for the input.

@cdklassen2 Now that you believe that I not a trouble-maker, would you mind if I ask you a question or 2? When we are born we have a soul do we have a spirit as well? Tell me if there is a preacher or evangelist who in the business to make money not real beleiveing in the Bible and yet he get people to be save would God overlook this? Would this fall under good work will not get you into Heaven? I know the answer but I would like to hear your answer.

@arjmcf I think the bible is perfectly clear about salvation being through Christ alone. It is impossible to embrace Jesus but reject the Word as they are one in the same. Such preachers will die in their sin I'm sorry to say. There is no way to earn salvation... not by living a near perfect life, not by saving a million souls.

@cdklassen2 yep you know the sad part? even know they put money first and save some people, I have alway believe in God and I have not one person that I can say that I help to be save. They say a tree is known by the fruit it bear, my tree bear no fruits. God and Jesus means everything to me, I would never make a dime or sell out my Lord.

@arjmcf I'm sure that's not entirely accurate. Surely you have witnessed to somebody, told someone the amazing truth about Jesus. No doubt you sell yourself short just because you haven't personally witnessed the harvest. Sowing the gospel is just as important as reaping salvation. Jesus is the son of God, the only resurrected one, the only path to righteousness. He loves you dearly and desires a relationship with you. You see? Sowing the gospel is just that simple. We should all sow more.

@arjmcf One more thing... don't forget that the term fruit is referring to evidence of salvation. Following the example of Jesus... love God, love your neighbor, pray for those who hate you, share the gospel, forgive everybody, etc. You're here and you're sharing your testimony... I see fruit.

@cdklassen2 I know you read all my comments here want to make this very clear. I do believe in healing and tongues and God talking to whom He choses. There are people who use these thing to make them look good. See I am a Holy man a man of God. These people I try to stay away from or expose them. I don't like people when they say I talk to God and He told me this or that, then someone else say the opposite.

@arjmcf So true. Anybody who seeks glory for himself is not of God. However, let us not forget that Jesus said we would do even greater works than He because He goes to the Father. So you're correct, the gifts are real. By the way, tongues are not completely uncontrollable. God knows how bad it would look speaking tongues in a line at Arby's. The bottom line is this... to God alone be the glory. We can do nothing apart from Him. God bless you brother.

The first thing to come to mind is indwelling is to live inside,like when you are save the holy Spirit will live within and baptism of the Holy Spirit is like what happen to the 12 disciples.

@arjmcf Great to know... you are obviously biblically wise too. In all honesty, you seemed to be just a trouble-maker before (I'm not judging! haha). But now I see that your only hangup is really the term 'born again'. I can appreciate that and I don't see much reason arguing about such a thing. I admit there's a chance I could be wrong about the term and I wouldn't argue to the death about it. Jesus died to save all those who follow Him. That I would die for. Amen?

@arjmcf Please research the term 'sanctification'. It essentially describes the walk of every Christian... taking off the old man and putting on the new. Salvation occurs before sanctification, not after... think of the thief on the cross... or Zacchaeus the tax collector. Both were promised salvation by Jesus because of their faith in Him, but neither had 'cleaned house' so to speak.

@cdklassen2 Being saved and being born again are equivalent terms. They mean the same thing. The first birth is the physical one (born of the flesh) and the second birth is the spiritual one (born of the Spirit). Jesus explained this to Nicodemus when He said, “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” (John 3:6) this is what I once believe not I dont now Nic was saying this when Jesus was on the cross, he knew that the death of Jesus is the beginning to be born again

Of course one could confess with their mouth and not believe in their heart... and I'm sure it's been done many times (peer pressure etc)... but when you throw in repentance (turning from sin and to Jesus Christ), we see fruit, not just lip service. True repentance and confession does lead to salvation through Jesus Christ. "You will recognize them by their fruits..." Matthew 7:16
