@kti05hnu58 AGREED! And so was the animated king before him. As for the Creepy modern-day king, You may or may not have heard that BK just recently FIRED his ass! I can't tell ya just HOW GLAD I am. Now, Perhaps they should go back to the drawing board and re-imagine their King.
hmm very cool and nice design commercial.. teh.. in 1978 and that was like 1 year after elvis presley died or should i say around 11 months after elvis died.
Its not surprising it happened but the duke wasn't popular because McDonalds had monopolized on the pedophile clown and his freak assisitants. therefore a arrogant king and his accomplice who doubts everything just couldn't corner the market.
If a duke is a king's brother, then that is one apple that fell far from the tree LOL! They should have let him keep a real face instead of the nose LOL! The King looks like a disco pimp and the Duke of Doubt freaks me out! LOL!
This ad brings back memories. Might have seen it during the Saturday cartoons way back when. Does anyone else remember when Burger King offered a steak sandwich for a while in the late '70s? I used to order that all the time when I was a little tyke.
@kti05hnu58 Not only is today's King character pretty creepy, but, I think the food Burger King serves up nowadays tastes like crap compared to how it tasted in the old days. I remember when fast food was good, a real treat. I used to love going to Burger King. Now it tastes so bad, I avoid it whenever I can.
wow...his character obviously got lost in the folds of time. :) i've never heard of him before. (maybe the King put him in the dungeon for stealing the spotlight.) thanks for posting a glimpse of this brief moment in advertising history.
I was watching a commerical from the late 70's on McDonald's and they had a Pirate character and in the early 80's McDonald's got rid of him... But the funny thing about it is the fact that he belong more with Long John Silver than McDonald's.. There are still a few commericals here on Youtube about the Pirate character that eats or trys to steal fish sandwichs.
@WarshipAngelus The McD's pirate character you're referring to was Captain Crook & they officially retired him in 1987. He was far successful than this Duke of Doubt character who only lasted 2 or 3 yrs at BK before he was dropped for good.
Where was I? I do not remember this commercial or character at all! I was 10 and glued to the tv. Was this a more regional commercial? Actually, really kind of creepy.
Thanks for posting this! I wrote on my blog about this series of commercials but could hardly find any online. Thanks for restocking the Internet with these. I may have to post a follow-up!
I remember this commercial. The Burger King back then was way less reminiscent of a serial killer back then. You know, with the mask. It's almost like Michael Myers is selling burgers now.
He's the Oliver Cromwell of Burger King.
