Beck unleashes his inner Mick Jagger on this one. Even the video has a loose 60s house party feel. Anyone else notice how much this sounds like a lost track off the Stones Sticky Fingers album? It's the wonderful Nicky Hopkins-like piano that gave so much lift and life to the Stones work then. Also reminds me a bit of Loving Cup off Exile on Main St. Either way, a great song. Beck is the best.
Oh, PS: My favorite little part in the video (besides the cut of the power to the audio track towards the end) : Around 1:20, the camera focuses to Mr. Cool in the background, who shakes his head, "no, no...." LOL
Great job: I don't tend to go for Beck's music, and I tend not to be interested in videos... But I really like this song! And, I really like this video. Something about how loose and casual in its appearance makes me feel sort of 'close' to the performer. Great song-video combination! I wouldn't mention it save that it appears the director has a look at these comments.... Love, The Moon...
Definitely looks like him, but I don't think it is. He has much wider eyes. Plus, I doubt he and Beck would get along very well; they are of completely different minds.
Unfortunately the audio quality of this upload is REALLY bad, I have the cd and it sounds amazing. No offense taken I know how tech stuff happens, just mentioning it for people so they can search out another version
In this video Beck reminds me of Hansel from Zoolander. This guy parties with midgets, acid ridden hippies, band mates, models, his kids, bear costumes, old blues-men, giant telephones, transvestites, and a camera.

Another excellent song by Beck, unfortunately cheapened by another stupid, nonsensical Beck video. How can a musician as brilliant as Beck allow this to be done to his music? If you listen to this song you hear him actually expressing some ambivalence about his fame and fortune. The video just ignores it, and opts for brainless eye candy. And what's with the song breaking down at 3:20? Hey, Beck, make your videos at least half as good as your songs, or just DON'T MAKE VIDEOS!
"My Mercedes Benz." Borrowed from Janis Joplin. Beck is so great at appropriating the best and greatest. Brilliant guy.
Mmmm - and arismixtapes - can totally relate to the shrooms and beautiful music. All souls should experience the magic once in there lives - if not many times ;-)
I used to drive a Ford Fiesta, it sucked. So I bought a Honda Accord, it wasn't bad, but it blew up. Then my dad's dad died and I got his Seat Ibiza. It sucks, but it hasn't blown up yet. I love cars; a hopeless conflict of aspirations versus wretched four wheel reality. Meh.
This is such a powerful piece, a classic. Beck is the Dylan of his age, but to see that this video was posted a year ago and still has only a few thousands views shows just how lonely it is at the top. Shame69 nailed it with the reference to Nicky Hopkins.
man, i wasn't a fan of Beck's until i listened to The Information. such a great album, and this song, amazing. I also love "Dark Star". I really liked how they did a music video for every song. and Devendra! I couldn't believe it when I first saw him in the video. :)
We filmed the video with two cameras piped through an old AV Mixer. The power kicked off during the song, and then magically came back on so we kept it in the edit.
Is that Devendra Banhart in the back?

You're right jlovebirch - it also has a Loving Cup feel as well as Torn & Frayed

Yeah this song was inspired by The Stones' "Torn & Frayed" from Exile on Main st - Beck is beyond great . . . as are The Stones

Is it just me or is Beck just going through the motions in this video? I miss the days of Midnite Vultures . .
