I remember when I got my PS3, this was the first game I got for it. The minute I heard this song at the main menu, I knew I was in for a great game, and it didn't disappoint. Homecoming is in my list of favorite Silent Hill games.
I can´t forget this song... I always have to think about the flash back alex has on the scene when you come home for the first time. when he remembers a night as a child - when he gave josh the torch after he had a nightmare. kind of adorable the relationship as the developers animated it in the game. all the memories, flash backs, pictures and the recorded tape about josh and alex playing "radio station". god I loved this game...
silent hill is not a normal game...A lot of friends are pro gamers an they play every sort of brutal games..But everytime when i want to play silent hill they turen they twist their head to another side an say "Stop the sound, and lets play resident evil, i cant play this game". This is weird couse i play computergames very rarely, only when a new game from silent hil comes out;-)
Umm I don't play Silent Hill Games (I'm not strong enough...) But the game characters, when they're Silent Hill Journey ends, do they go back to the real world? Also, HOW do they get to Silent Hill? Lastly lol for this question think about it literally for the characters; if you die in Silent Hill, do you go to Heaven, Hell, Limbo, or are you already dead in when you enter Silent Hill? Please answer! Thank you! :D

Alex is not a soldier you gotta know that. There was an accident in which Joshua fell into the lake and died. and Alex lost his mind and was sent to a mental hospital by his parents. And there is a ritual taking place in Silent hill about children and stuff. If you wanna hear about it more i can tell you. :D
@CadaverJunky8 Hey oh btw that guy who you get your first handgun is also in this business. He will try to kill you and Elle later in the game. And Mayor Bartlett, Doctor Fitch and Judge Holloway they all killed their own children thats why they suffer.
Ahhh this is it man. This really tears me up inside. When this plays, I don't know if I am to smile at the beautiful melody or to cry. Homecoming has evoked so much in me that all the other Silent Hill hasn't been able to before.
All you Homecoming dissers that are still whining about Team Silent & hating Homecoming's combat etc. can just piss on yourselves. This game is just different. You're supposed to play it and let it evoke emotions in you. That's what true gameplay is all about.

This has to be my most favorite track of the silent hill series. i love it. Silent hill has to be the best horrific game in history simply by the story line alone

I am totally keeping that in mind when i make a script for a Silent Hill game. Because i think they're not making the stories right with the new silent hill games. It pains me, they need someone who is a true fan and who understands what Silent Hill truly is.
@TheBravethunder Well they COULDN'T really. I apologize for overthinking it, but they couldn't since each game has basically no relation to the others. Plus, the character of the next game doesn't know any of the previous characters, so thinking about the details it technically wouldn't be possible for the character to figure it out, although the player could.
@OMGitsFay Well, Akira Yamaoka is allowed to rip off his own work as much as we wants. Still, it's a disappointment he won't be scoring Silent Hill: Downpour.
@OMGitsFay I feel the same way. For me at least, Akira's work is what gives the Silent Hill games the creepy atmosphere. If he won't be returning for Downpour, I just can't imagine the game being anywhere near as good as previous titles.
I don't care what anyone says, Homecoming is one of my top favorite Silent Hill games and Alex Shepherd is probably my favorite SH main character of all time.
He's so great, strong, brave, caring, and just such a likable character. What he did was an accident and even after learning the truth he'd buried deep down in the mental institution, he still came out swinging and got past that.
If I could go back in time - I would have made Silent Hill 2 a movie, because without anyone knowing the plot it could have literally have been the most haunting, beautiful and pants shittingly terrifying film of all time - I still have nightmares about the game

@msgoldoche2 I never said it sucked, I said it was my most disliked silent hill. It was very different, got boring after a while and what happened to puzzles/riddles?! Well there were a few, very easy though. The storyline was very predictable, and I couldn't connect with any of the characters. If you haven't played the first three silent hills, I recommend you do. Silent hill 2 will remain the best in my opinion.

@msgoldoche2 Ok. I just told Nudge009 how it sucked. The NUMBER ONE REASON why it sucked was because it was an American attempt to reinvision a JAPANESE horror franchise. Nobody could come close to what those Japanese people do with horror. That goes for Origins and Shattered Memories as well. All American remakes of J-horror. A.K.A. Bullshit.
Number two is because of the plot. Poorly executed. Not bizarre enough. You don't even have to finish the game to know the ending.
@dzpisx I'm not trying to insult you but, The way i see it there are three types of silent hill fans. #1 The ones who love silent hill 1-4 and hate origins,homecoming and shattered memories. #2 the ones who hate 1-4 but love origins, homecoming, and shattered memories(I dont think ive met one like that yet). And finally #3 people like me who love all of them but realize that the newer ones are nothing compared to 1-4 but still love the series.

Definitely, although I do like American horror it's not my favorite either. French horror is great. I love foreign films/ video games. They always seems to be better in one way or another. But yeah I've known that FEAR is American, no worries.
Silent Hill beats FEAR by a long shot in my book anyway. Although I still like it. Just not as much.

@Nudge009 4 was good, I think. Have you ever played Siren? It's a J-horror game made by the exact same people who made Silent Hill. Silent Hill, the way I see it, it's all in the storyline and visual concept. The story must be about a place or individual with a very evil past, and then nightmares and alternate realities that terrify the viewer and the guy with the evil past, that make him or her understand the evil. 4 did an okay job of that.

I, for one, support the official releases by BUYING them in hopes that they will CONTINUE to make games because of the popular sales. Save the torrents for some crappy overrated game, like Modern Warfare 2.

i have silent hill origins, 2, and 4. i used to be able to play the silent hill 3 demo on my laptop but it was such a short demo. but was kinda fun to play. i'm also trying to get the vey first silent hill on my psp through the playstation store.
yeah. im trying to get the original silent hill on my psp. but i need to get a playstation network card in order to get it. and im still trying to get silent hill 3, but gamestop seems to don't have it on the shelf no more.
There are plenty of tutorials for all PSP versions and firmwares,even for PSP GO!I think you will need a custom firmware to play PSX games on PSP.Go check the site.

@computeras2000 Having the emulator on your hard drive is fine, but you must copy and use the BIOS from your own console. Making the BIOS available for download through the internet is as illegal as making a pirated game available.
Even if you own an original game on a disc, it's still illegal to even make an ISO from your disc and use the emulator to play it. In no way it is legal. If you want to download the BIOS and play pirated games then it's your decision.
they should bring back all the main characters like Harry Mason, James Sunderland, Heather, Henry Towsend, oh and Travis Grady, and put them on a new silent hill game including Alex from silent hill 5.

silent hill games have a very special place in my heart. it's truly artistic horror done with impeccable taste. the overwhelming misery, desolation, yearning and barrage of psychotic visions are utterly brilliant. and of course, with yamaoka's inexplicably beautiful sonic touch, this series is a very powerful force to be reckoned with. i hope games like SH go down in history, as examples of how video games can truly be works of art. this series is one of the great artistic feats of today.

@0m I agree with you. Video games that accomplished that kind of art are rare. This game has an incredible story and they are able to bring music that makes you wonder even more in what kind of world you are when you play this game. A world of madness, horror.
I love this game. I love SH1, 2, 0rigins and Homecoming (3 didn't work for me and 4 doesn't interest me). The criticism that this game gets is unfair. The main character is a "fucking American Commando"?!? It seems more like the person that made this comment hates Americans than anything else... yes, Alex's backstory includes membership of the armed forces (I'm averting spoilers here!). So what? Soldier =/= space marine. The game makes you constantly vulnerable and running low on ammo.
I have played other SH's. I've played all four and I love every single one of them to death. Homecoming to me is no different. It has an excellent story with excellent characters and a great twist.
This game is not shit by any means. It's definitely the worst in the SH series, but that's not saying much considering SH is one of the greatest game series of all time. Sure it may share some similarities to the film that many people dislike, but it's still Silent Hill and it's still awesome.
To my mind "Homecoming" not in the best way exploits some awesome ideas that already have been realizied in previous games and gives us nothing new at all.
Excellent story? It consists of running for Joshua all the game (SIlent Hill 1, but there was Sheril) and "I killed but don't remember" (Silent Hill 2, but Josh instead of Marie now) or for example the Confession scene (Silent Hill 3, but Alex's father instead of Claudia now) and more, more...
+ of some classical Hollywood methods (THAT TOTALLY NOT MATCH TO SILENT HILL), like the main character is Fucking American Commando, always ready to kill thousand-another thousand of "monsters". There is no even possibility to talk about empathy to him, in contrast to Silent Hill 1-4 (Harry, James, Heather, Henry!). It's like dinosaurs on the moon - that doesn't make any sense, it ruins all the atmosphere...
"Homecoming" maybe is a great survival horror. But it isn't "Silent Hill" that we remember and "love to the death". I don't blame you, but I can't agree with your opinion.
Homecoming doesn't give us anything new? Yes, previous elements are present in this game but they are done in a way as to make them new. Not to mention the two huge plot twists are well done. It might be hard to empathize with Alex at first, but after the reveal that he accidently killed Josh and I don't think it is at all. He goes from an American soldier to someone who lost everything and just snapped. Unlike James it was an accident. He isn't a murderer, he's just a kid who made a mistake.
(cont.) Which I think can make people empathize with him more. He isn't a cold blooded killer like James. Also, I will agree some elements in this game do detract from the experience. Pyramid Head should not have been included. Although, Alex did kill his brother so it could be Pyramid Head is torturing him as it did James. But, it doesn't really belong. While Homecoming does borrow from the movie more than it should, it doesn't detract from the Silent Hill name.
(cont.) The psychological horror is still there, along with the intense atmosphere. The story is more predictable than the previous games, but it hides it's major plot twists well. Also, the story of Sheperd's Glen and it's history is also very well done IMO. Not to mention this game boasts some of the best music in the series, capturing the feeling of Silent Hill better than the previous games. The ambient, sorrow-filled music is a prime example of how music can enhance a gaming experience.

Dude, it got really foggy here a couple nights back. I went out for a walk with the flashlight. I'm walking down the road barley able to see 3 feet in front of me and the whole time this song is playing in my head. LOVE SILENT HILL!!!!

@msgoldoche2 I never said it sucked, I said it was my most disliked silent hill. It was very different, got boring after a while and what happened to puzzles/riddles?! Well there were a few, very easy though. The storyline was very predictable, and I couldn't connect with any of the characters. If you haven't played the first three silent hills, I recommend you do. Silent hill 2 will remain the best in my opinion.

@msgoldoche2 Ok. I just told Nudge009 how it sucked. The NUMBER ONE REASON why it sucked was because it was an American attempt to reinvision a JAPANESE horror franchise. Nobody could come close to what those Japanese people do with horror. That goes for Origins and Shattered Memories as well. All American remakes of J-horror. A.K.A. Bullshit.
Number two is because of the plot. Poorly executed. Not bizarre enough. You don't even have to finish the game to know the ending.

@dzpisx I'm not trying to insult you but, The way i see it there are three types of silent hill fans. #1 The ones who love silent hill 1-4 and hate origins,homecoming and shattered memories. #2 the ones who hate 1-4 but love origins, homecoming, and shattered memories(I dont think ive met one like that yet). And finally #3 people like me who love all of them but realize that the newer ones are nothing compared to 1-4 but still love the series.

They must be hardcore American horror lovers, that liked the idea of the concept of Silent Hill, but didn't like the way it was executed by the Japanese.
I am the person who loves all Japanese Horror and the way they do what they do.

@mylifeispointless Youre right, it does. The whole flashlight-in-the-dark concept has made games scarier and scarier. It's perfectly fine you like F.E.A.R. as long as you're aware that it's not Japanese. There's nothing Japanese about that game really..
American horror is cool with me only because of people like Wes Craven, Stephen King, and Rob Zombie, but it's not my favourite...

Definitely, although I do like American horror it's not my favorite either. French horror is great. I love foreign films/ video games. They always seems to be better in one way or another. But yeah I've known that FEAR is American, no worries.
Silent Hill beats FEAR by a long shot in my book anyway. Although I still like it. Just not as much.

I, from time to time, try to recreate the [terror] of Silent Hill, (I'm a writer) but I'd never, ever call it Silent Hill. Not even if I could. That's the name of a Jap-horror franchise, why would I try to remake it? I wouldn't. I'm not Japanese. Or AKIRA YAMAOKA!

@Nudge009 4 was good, I think. Have you ever played Siren? It's a J-horror game made by the exact same people who made Silent Hill. Silent Hill, the way I see it, it's all in the storyline and visual concept. The story must be about a place or individual with a very evil past, and then nightmares and alternate realities that terrify the viewer and the guy with the evil past, that make him or her understand the evil. 4 did an okay job of that.

I, for one, support the official releases by BUYING them in hopes that they will CONTINUE to make games because of the popular sales. Save the torrents for some crappy overrated game, like Modern Warfare 2.

i have silent hill origins, 2, and 4. i used to be able to play the silent hill 3 demo on my laptop but it was such a short demo. but was kinda fun to play. i'm also trying to get the vey first silent hill on my psp through the playstation store.

You can mod your PSP and run the iso of the game.I think Roms of PSX are legal,now.Since it got out in 1994.

There are plenty of tutorials for all PSP versions and firmwares,even for PSP GO!I think you will need a custom firmware to play PSX games on PSP.Go check the site.

@computeras2000 Having the emulator on your hard drive is fine, but you must copy and use the BIOS from your own console. Making the BIOS available for download through the internet is as illegal as making a pirated game available.
Even if you own an original game on a disc, it's still illegal to even make an ISO from your disc and use the emulator to play it. In no way it is legal. If you want to download the BIOS and play pirated games then it's your decision.

The theme is similiar to the one that is in Silent Hill 3, but damn, I just can't stop listening to it.

silent hill games have a very special place in my heart. it's truly artistic horror done with impeccable taste. the overwhelming misery, desolation, yearning and barrage of psychotic visions are utterly brilliant. and of course, with yamaoka's inexplicably beautiful sonic touch, this series is a very powerful force to be reckoned with. i hope games like SH go down in history, as examples of how video games can truly be works of art. this series is one of the great artistic feats of today.

I love this game. I love SH1, 2, 0rigins and Homecoming (3 didn't work for me and 4 doesn't interest me). The criticism that this game gets is unfair. The main character is a "fucking American Commando"?!? It seems more like the person that made this comment hates Americans than anything else... yes, Alex's backstory includes membership of the armed forces (I'm averting spoilers here!). So what? Soldier =/= space marine. The game makes you constantly vulnerable and running low on ammo.

I have played other SH's. I've played all four and I love every single one of them to death. Homecoming to me is no different. It has an excellent story with excellent characters and a great twist.
This game is not shit by any means. It's definitely the worst in the SH series, but that's not saying much considering SH is one of the greatest game series of all time. Sure it may share some similarities to the film that many people dislike, but it's still Silent Hill and it's still awesome.

To my mind "Homecoming" not in the best way exploits some awesome ideas that already have been realizied in previous games and gives us nothing new at all.
Excellent story? It consists of running for Joshua all the game (SIlent Hill 1, but there was Sheril) and "I killed but don't remember" (Silent Hill 2, but Josh instead of Marie now) or for example the Confession scene (Silent Hill 3, but Alex's father instead of Claudia now) and more, more...

+ of some classical Hollywood methods (THAT TOTALLY NOT MATCH TO SILENT HILL), like the main character is Fucking American Commando, always ready to kill thousand-another thousand of "monsters". There is no even possibility to talk about empathy to him, in contrast to Silent Hill 1-4 (Harry, James, Heather, Henry!). It's like dinosaurs on the moon - that doesn't make any sense, it ruins all the atmosphere...

Homecoming doesn't give us anything new? Yes, previous elements are present in this game but they are done in a way as to make them new. Not to mention the two huge plot twists are well done. It might be hard to empathize with Alex at first, but after the reveal that he accidently killed Josh and I don't think it is at all. He goes from an American soldier to someone who lost everything and just snapped. Unlike James it was an accident. He isn't a murderer, he's just a kid who made a mistake.

Pyramid Head should not have been included. Although, Alex did kill his brother so it could be Pyramid Head is torturing him as it did James. But, it doesn't really belong. While Homecoming does borrow from the movie more than it should, it doesn't detract from the Silent Hill name.

(cont.) The psychological horror is still there, along with the intense atmosphere. The story is more predictable than the previous games, but it hides it's major plot twists well. Also, the story of Sheperd's Glen and it's history is also very well done IMO. Not to mention this game boasts some of the best music in the series, capturing the feeling of Silent Hill better than the previous games. The ambient, sorrow-filled music is a prime example of how music can enhance a gaming experience.
