To be perfectly precise, the king of England owed homage to the French king for his French possessions--Aquitaine, Anjou, Maine, Normandy, etc.--but not for his English dominions.
sorry to rain on your parade dudes, but that sounds awfully modern to be a medieval tune. I'm not sure they brought cymbals and modern trumpets to medieval battlefields... Does anyone has a "reconstructed" version (where it is played by medieval instruments ?)
there is no friendship with the french bastard they look only for their interest dont forget they made an alliance with ''long shanks'' during william wallace's time against the brave scotts .scotts dont need anyone anyway they can defend the highlands only with a sword and a bagpipe lol ...long live the scotts fuck the french
You are funny " they look only for their interest " and what make the Scottish in the begining of the 18 th century , they fight with the English against the French . So fuck your fag Canadian people ..
Hey I need some HELP!!!!! So I LOVE writing and just sent a book into a publishing company to see what they think, I have a web-site promoting it and since I'm only 16 it'll be kinda hard to get published so the more ppl who sign my guest book the better! Please go check out my site and sign my guest book! at thekingsghost.webs.com My book is called "The King's Ghost" and this is actually what it is about! + my mom is a Bruce!!!
The lyrics were written by Robert Burns in 1793, in the form of a speech given by Robert the Bruce before the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, where Scotland maintained its sovereignty from the Kingdom of England. Although the lyrics are by Burns, he wrote them to the traditional Scottish tune Hey Tuttie Tatie which, according to tradition, was played by Bruces army at the Battle of Bannockburn, and by the Franco-Scots army at the Siege of Orleans This wasnt to celebrate any unionotherthan scots
Also may I add, that this tune never had words to it prior to Burns. So instead of fitting the words around the tunes, Rabbie re-fitted some of the tune around his words. The tunes at least 550 + years old. The Tune God save the Queen isn't even British. It is German. It was the anthem of The German Kingdom of Prussia, from 1701 until the beginning of the Imperial German Empire in January 1871. On the formation of this Empire in 1871 until 1918, it was the anthem of Germany. England stole this!
Well no quite right ! A part of France belonged to the Plantagenest kings, descendent of the norman french, right ! But Plantagenest still were French kings of England. Its not England owning a part of France, its England being a part of the Plantagenest kingdom. And John didn't give anything away, he was spanked by the French at Bouvines battle in 1214 and had to retire from his continental possessions. not the same thing !
Hi Segano1. The words Scots Wae Hae were made up by Robert Burns. The Tune however, predates him by at least 350 years. Scotland had no "Official" Anthem prior to 1707 Union. Britain doesn't have this to this very day. God save the Queen is a Royal Anthem. Same as this tune with the unlikely name of hey tatti tutti. A Scots Royal Anthem played at Coronations. Burns added words circa 1792. This will become our official anthem.
After Scottish victory and sovergin indepence recognised. The so called 100 years war between the auld enemy and the auld allaince, Victory for France lead by Joan of Arc of course in charge of thousands Scottish soldiers and a wee bit of divine intervention hehe
Pimp has is right. We Americans would fight against the English and join with Scots and Irish if needed. We fought against England too and kicked some ass. We would do it again. Remember there ar 300 million guns in the hands of the people (not military). thats more than the English army. we could send our military on holiday and still kick the english AGAIN. Keep ur pimp hand strong.
yeah, i don't think Americans would fight England. Nor would we need to. The west is allied, there are mild economic and geopolitical rivalries between america and europe but we wont be fighting eachother again anytime soon
still cant understand why a french Norman would fight for scotland because england was under norman hand but yeh...... He was neither close German or Scottish. He indeed was Norman.
well he fought for the english aswell, tht makes him a traitor, and you can portrait him easy as someone who wanted to ensure his influence and his leading role over scottish people, which he couldnt have had in a different way. HE was the one who commanded, not his men. Iam sorry, thats what I see after reading about him.
Nearly there, though that new Parliament House/collage disjoint materials in Edinburgh... but then, some might not rather have Hamilton Palace there...
@mapkaz We could do with another Scottish, French Alliance. Scotland needs help from other countries to break free from the British brainwashing system that has reduced Scotland to the state of a conquered country.
@GuyDeMonpeslier May one day Scotland be independant. And when that day comes, we will be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with our french allies as a seperate nation from Britain
It was quite funny to fight together with the Scots against the English, though maybe not so funny for Jeanne herself: "In war time, she would not permit any of those in her company to steal anything; nor would she ever eat of food which she knew to be stolen. Once, a Scot told her that he had eaten of a stolen calf: she was very angry, and wanted to strike the Scot for so doing." Shame we let them down afterwards, in 1650 when Cromwell invaded Scotland or 1746 at Culloden. Maybe next time!
scotland won the hundred year war for france its only a shame we didnt just chose england and wipe them out all scotlands trouble with england was because of france but when it was frances turn to return the fvour it never came the french fucks were even going to give wallace over to england when he visited france
@scotsclaymore1297: Really? So England did not conquer her neighbour countries like Wales, Ireland and of course Scotland out on her own drive for expansion but only made war upon the Scots because the helped France? Nice imagination but the famous Battle of Bannockburn took place in1314 but the Hundred Years War started in 1337! So I guess you should think the whole matter over and the Scots did help France but the main fighting was done by the French of course or was Jeanne a Scottish?
first england never conquored scotland ya plum it never conquored ireland parts of it yes but not the country the wars started because the scots wouldnt help longshanks fight france which started the auld alliance second what has bannockburn got to do with the 100 year war who asaid it had anything to do with it and last the only battles wobn for france was by the scots jeanne actually her main fighting force was the royal eccosse thats scots
@scotsclaymore1297: Dear me! So you deny that England ruled all Ireland, with occasional uprisings from the times of Henry II until 1921as well as the conquest of Scotland by Oliver Cromwell in 1649/50? Anyway: Why do you think the old Scot died chose an alliance with France rather than one with their neighbour country? Is it because they knew that if Edward I would prevail in France that they were doomed too? Moreover: The royal Scottish guards were established long after Jeanne!
Xmas eve I had French wine, blended Scotch, and Irish protestant(Bushmills)whiskey. I went therafter to Midnight Catholic Mass whereupon there was a violent uprising within me. Only after I tasted the Body and Blood of the Lord was there a settleing within me of Peace On Earth as all the spirits found sweet harmony TARA PAX ET LAETITIAM
ekatherm:the scots aren't Irish/Danes/Angle...The Scots descending from a Tribe called Scotti which came from Ireland (Dal Riata,Antrim)and settled down to Argyll(around 500 AD).The Origin of Scotland are the Picts/Caledonians a Celtic Tribe.
BigWoodyAllen:is it bad 2 be French??it's not a hasard that once Scotland and France have/had an alliance called the Auld Alliance.Much Scots fought for the French and vice versa...
Past is past, we are not responsible for some of our kings' mistakes, I deeply respect Scotland and wish we were true friends. But why are some of you so mad at french while most of us deeply love your country. Do not live with stereotypes.
The problem is that when Scottland needed France, France was ruled by a King, Louis the XVth, who has not followed the war policy of his ancestors (Louis the XIVth etc).
This is Louis the XVth who lost North America, India... He refused to send soldiers in Canada to fight against the English for exemple, and send only 3000 soldiers at the battle of Culloden to help Scottland.
If Louis the XVth would have been a little more able to fight, England and the USA would have never ruled the World.
"Where were you at Flodden?"... The French were facing the real English army-Flodden was a victory for "Dad's Army"(local English levies) over the Royal Scots Army.
u idiot. the scots had been force marched the whole way down to england and the "royal scots army" were mainly untrained peasents.the scots cannons were huge lumbering things that you couldnt trust as far as you could throw, the scottish king james IV was in charge of the scots he was a hot headed idiot who caused the deaths of so many. the scots standed little chance they were ill equiped hungry and tired so dont get all high and mighty over that because lets just remember bannockburn YA DICK
And by the way ,the English forces were assembled in a hurry in response to the Scots invasion, and force marched from Yorkshire to meet them. The numerically superior Scottish army, well fed, entrenched in an advantageous position, holding the high ground, with heavier artillery, was out-manoeuvred by Howard and his knackered levies.Your 40 year old King was stuffed by a 70 year old pensioner-it was a GREAT victory, like Bannockburn-get over it! YA DICK
Yes but to get your arse fucked by a very samall nation with a very small population...awesome!!! You have carried it in the english persona ever since, and how you find enjoyment anytime you beat Scotland at sports shows the mentality of a nation of fuckwits.Up to James, we had the oldest unbriken royal line in the world, there's not such a thing as an Englishman,You're all Germans and French!! Even your Queen!!
I think it's common knowledge that the Scots get far more of a kick out of the Anglo-Scottish rivalry than the English do.You even get your jollies watching foreign teams playing England-the average Englishman couldn't give a toss who wins ,when Scotland play someone else. Some might even support Scotland against overseas sides. As for royalty,I think you'll find that ALL Europeans Houses intermarried - there was a fair percentage of Anglo-Saxon genes, amongst others, in the Scottish ruling house.
As for being German and French-so what? The Scots are Irish,Pict and Angle(German/Danish)Anyway I thought you liked the French-you spent most of your history sucking up to them, and got f**k all in return.
oh ye GET THAT RIGHT UP YE!! YA DICK if i get another comment back from you i will insist on typing scots wha hae / the flower of cotland either as replies or as meseges to yourself, and my argument will return to my origonal comment YA DICK
In the fact where the treaty is not abolished forever ^^
Thus, same today all Scotish who born can claim to have also French nationality and conversely all French who born can claim to have "Scotish nationality" even if it does not exist for you, colonized that you are by English :-(
Do I smell irrevalent comments? Dear God! Why must all good videos like this one be cluttered with such crap? I would not be surprised if we have anti-English, etc comments because Jeanne La Pucelle makes an appearance!
"Its nothing more than a bloody football rivalry ! Do i hold a grudge against all Germans because of the two world wars ? No i dont. You need to be less bitter and angry."
We speak again about bitterness and if you
do hold a grudge when you are forced to
live 300 years under the commandment of a
german Reich.
I don´t think you would really like it.
so as a german I support scottish independence 100 %...
It's interesting how that video celebrates the auld alliance of Scotland and France. It would be quite a historical moment when there is a Scottish Republic in existence with the other Republics like France, USA and Ireland, all born from desires from freedom and full of long tragic histories with terrible things done by those for and against independence. Perhaps the best cure for these old wounds is to approach each other as free nations in true partnership, imagine what we could do :-)
ZekiSWE, n'ecoutez pas au ces garcons sauvages, merci de votre filme; c'est dommage que la veille alliance n'existe plus; il y etait un fois quand les ecossais et les francais etaient bons camarades. (Une Ecossaise)
If you believe that shite then you are stupider than I thought. You really are a fucking tosser. We will have the future that we want for our beautiful country not the future that you cunts are trying to ram down our throats. Savvy muttonheid. Well I,ve just had my dinner and Im now going to make love to a beautiful, passionate Scotswoman while you say hello to Pam and her five sisters, banjo boy. Was your mother bitten by a Scotman while she was pregnant with you? checkout FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!
Scot--don't let him upset you. They are 'being' superior yet it is not in balance. A superiority complex is the source of hate, contempt and violence; just to name a few. Take heart because you are not alone feeling a longing to come back to where we were culturally. To be proud of our heritage; which has soooo much to do with Brtain both good and bad.
We'll get there just hold your frustration for once we became violent, they know what to do with us. Peace!

Scotland is British --
God Bless LOYAL Scotland, England, Wales, & Ulster -- the United Kingdom Forever!
Let's stop the bickering and enjoy the music -- it's worse than a Rangers vs. Celtics football game around here! :)
By the way, this music has been set to numerous different lyrics over the centuries -- both British Loyalist (e. g., for King William III, as an Orange song) and otherwise.
to longbow 1415. your bloody country invaded both scotland and france and both scotland and france kicked your arse. and tell me how anybody could be proud of such a greedy nation as the english are. your wealth stems from others misery. nobody likes you bastards
You obviously need a history lesson. Scotland was part of the British Empire. They fought in all the major British wars from 17th century. And Scotland got rich from the British colonial conquests they participated in . And the only reason Scotland want independence is because they want all the North Sea oil for themselves, now that is a greedy nation.
I dont know why Im even getting into a dialouge with you because its obvious that you are very nieve about history in general. As part of your ENGLISH empire we had no choice. The english navy destroyed any chance we had of making the Darian experiment a success. The english army carried out systematic genocide in the highlands. Men ,women and children were put to the sword on the orders of the English king. Scots lived in abject poverty while england got rich from the SLAVE trade.
next bit. Unlike you english we do not subscribe to pre-concieved ideas because it happens to suit a notion. England has stripped scotland of every thing of value since your occupation of our country began. You try to make it sound like an equal partnership, aye right england gets the cake and Scotland gets the crumbs. As a free nation the only country we ever went to war with was ENGLAND, to defend ourselves. As for the precious oil, the sooner it runs out the sooner we,ll be free of u cunts
Lets not forget that Scotland tried to invade England many times. You forget to mention that. We got sick of you cunts persistantly attacking England, so we decided to sort that shit for good by decimating the entire Scottish govermental system. Us English offered you a life line by letting you become part of the union. That was in the late 18th century and thats the way things were done back then no different to what else was happening in the world at that time.
If your supposed to be an example of an englishman your command of the language is very poor and your grammer is dismal. I suspect that you also failed in history when you were at school. Your excuse for the unrelenting cruelty perpetuated upon the Scottish people by succesive English kings would be worthy of Herr Gobbles. A forced union will eventually fail. The lessons of history show that all tyrants fall and the will of the people will prevail. You might not like it but thats whats coming.
"englishman" should start with a capital E. And you yet again failed to mention Scottish armys invading England. That was the full reason why you were forced into a union. Your country brought it on yourself. Plus it was hundreds of years ago. Move on.
To put a capitol at the start of englishman would be a mark of respect. I dont know if you are thick or something but we are talking about to future when Scotland will be free. Im very interested in these so called invasions that you keep going on about. All my research is coming up with is a few small scale cattle raids and some skimishes over the faelty of Berwick and Carlisle. Maybe you can enlighten me. And as for moving on, we are and we dont need your permission. In fact we dont need you!

It reminds me that there is a french law promulgated during the 100 undred years war that warranty the french citizenship to all scots. This law has never been oficialy abolished even if it is today outmoded.

sorry to rain on your parade dudes, but that sounds awfully modern to be a medieval tune. I'm not sure they brought cymbals and modern trumpets to medieval battlefields... Does anyone has a "reconstructed" version (where it is played by medieval instruments ?)

How the hell was this song made to celebrate the Scottish-French relationship?
It was made by the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns
Called 'Scots Wha' Hae'
segano1 1 year ago 2

Maybe next time!

scotsclaymore1297 2 years ago
@scotsclaymore1297: Really? So England did not conquer her neighbour countries like Wales, Ireland and of course Scotland out on her own drive for expansion but only made war upon the Scots because the helped France? Nice imagination but the famous Battle of Bannockburn took place in1314 but the Hundred Years War started in 1337! So I guess you should think the whole matter over and the Scots did help France but the main fighting was done by the French of course or was Jeanne a Scottish?
GreatGrumbledook 2 years ago 3
first england never conquored scotland ya plum it never conquored ireland parts of it yes but not the country the wars started because the scots wouldnt help longshanks fight france which started the auld alliance second what has bannockburn got to do with the 100 year war who asaid it had anything to do with it and last the only battles wobn for france was by the scots jeanne actually her main fighting force was the royal eccosse thats scots
scotsclaymore1297 2 years ago
@scotsclaymore1297: Dear me! So you deny that England ruled all Ireland, with occasional uprisings from the times of Henry II until 1921as well as the conquest of Scotland by Oliver Cromwell in 1649/50? Anyway: Why do you think the old Scot died chose an alliance with France rather than one with their neighbour country? Is it because they knew that if Edward I would prevail in France that they were doomed too? Moreover: The royal Scottish guards were established long after Jeanne!

ADZ01982 3 years ago
its only greedy if it doesnt belong to you
albagubrath1984 3 years ago
I dont know why Im even getting into a dialouge with you because its obvious that you are very nieve about history in general. As part of your ENGLISH empire we had no choice. The english navy destroyed any chance we had of making the Darian experiment a success. The english army carried out systematic genocide in the highlands. Men ,women and children were put to the sword on the orders of the English king. Scots lived in abject poverty while england got rich from the SLAVE trade.
macocaire1314 3 years ago
The Scots werent the only ones who had to live in poverty back then just about the entire English working class lived in abject poverty.
ADZ01982 3 years ago
As for the precious oil, the sooner it runs out the sooner we,ll be free of u cunts
macocaire1314 3 years ago
Lets not forget that Scotland tried to invade England many times. You forget to mention that. We got sick of you cunts persistantly attacking England, so we decided to sort that shit for good by decimating the entire Scottish govermental system. Us English offered you a life line by letting you become part of the union. That was in the late 18th century and thats the way things were done back then no different to what else was happening in the world at that time.
ADZ01982 3 years ago
If your supposed to be an example of an englishman your command of the language is very poor and your grammer is dismal. I suspect that you also failed in history when you were at school. Your excuse for the unrelenting cruelty perpetuated upon the Scottish people by succesive English kings would be worthy of Herr Gobbles. A forced union will eventually fail. The lessons of history show that all tyrants fall and the will of the people will prevail. You might not like it but thats whats coming.
macocaire1314 3 years ago 3
"englishman" should start with a capital E. And you yet again failed to mention Scottish armys invading England. That was the full reason why you were forced into a union. Your country brought it on yourself. Plus it was hundreds of years ago. Move on.
ADZ01982 3 years ago
To put a capitol at the start of englishman would be a mark of respect. I dont know if you are thick or something but we are talking about to future when Scotland will be free. Im very interested in these so called invasions that you keep going on about. All my research is coming up with is a few small scale cattle raids and some skimishes over the faelty of Berwick and Carlisle. Maybe you can enlighten me. And as for moving on, we are and we dont need your permission. In fact we dont need you!
