Obviously the ambulance should have been yielding to the emergency vehicle but following the ambulance to the hospital and talking to a supervisor would have been pretty smart. Why did the supervisor abandon the patient? He should never have left the patient...second mistake! First mistake was not yielding to a agency running code.
I am usually on the side of the trooper, but this is too much. He was delayed by 2 to 3 seconds at most. The ambulance is from the Creek Nation (Native American tribal owned and run service. Some of the non-Indian people resent services provided to the citizens of the tribe.

As an emt I will clarify that most of the times you do not run lights and sirens while transporting an emergency. So you can not say it was not an emergency. Second he should never of pulled over for the cop if it was an emergency. He should of contacted dispatch and had them contact 911 to tell the cop where they were going and to meet them there. He shouldn't have pulled them over in the first place.
Both parties are in the wrong. The medic for not keeping his cool and notifying dispatch of an issue the Dispatch could have gotten a supervisor to the scene. Having an argument with the officer while you have a patient inside of your vehicle is a bad, while at the same time the officer should have allowed them to continue after quickly getting vehicle ID and Dispatch information then dealing with it later. The law, as quoted above addresses the "attempt to perform emergency medical care." This is not applicable here, as the ambulance was doing a routine, non emergency transport. No emergency.

The "E" in "ER" stands for Emergency as everyone knows. They are not required to run L&S in an emergency. OK statute on Emergency vehicles says "in an emergency they MAY exercise the privlege". They were not running L&S because the patient had high BP chest pains and passed out and sirens make this stress worse. The cop had no right to delay them which is why he let them go. He knew he was wrong.

if you watch the video carefully you can clearly see what actually happened. when the driver of the ambulance realizes the police car is behind him he does slow down but is UNABLE to yield to the side of the road because there is clearly another vehicle on the shoulder with a passenger exiting. after passing the the vehicle you can see a VERY LARGE POTHOLE on the shoulder and whether consciously or unconsciously realizes this and pulls over AFTER the pothole. wow u'all don't see that?

Go to the OK DMV and then search the vehicle code for "emergency vehicle." If the patient's life was in fact at risk, the ambulance would have been traveling with lights and sirens - which it wasn't. You can't claim exigent circumstances when the ambulance is casually stroling down the road.
You are correct The actual Emergency Vehicle statute in Oklahoma does NOT require L&S in an Emergency. It says they "may" exercise the privlige". Not "must". Quote:

Obviously the ambulance should have been yielding to the emergency vehicle but following the ambulance to the hospital and talking to a supervisor would have been pretty smart. As an emt I will clarify that most of the times you do not run lights and sirens while transporting an emergency. So you can not say it was not an emergency. Second he should never of pulled over for the cop if it was an emergency. He should of contacted dispatch and had them contact 911 to tell the cop where they were going and to meet them there. He shouldn't have pulled them over in the first place.

Both parties are in the wrong. The medic for not keeping his cool and notifying dispatch of an issue the Dispatch could have gotten a supervisor to the scene. The PHP is wrong for his.attitude his assault on the ambulance crew and being as he obviously wasn't going to a real emergency aa he could turn around to go fight with the ambulance. Thus he was misusing his power. IF the driver really did.make a hand gesture then he was in the wrong. My opinion medic needs to be suspended and PHP fired

Well I have to chime in on this one. As a Police Officer, I DO NOT agree with the action of the officer in this video. I also DO NOT with the actions of the leader EMT.
Having an argument with the officer while you have a patient inside of your vehicle is a bad, while at the same time the officer should have allowed them to continue after quickly getting vehicle ID and Dispatch information then dealing with it later. The Lead should have just backed off, contacted his dispatch.

The "E" in "ER" stands for Emergency as everyone knows. They are not required to run L&S in an emergency. OK statute on Emergency vehicles says "in an emergency they MAY exercise the privlege". They were not running L&S because the patient had high BP chest pains and passed out and sirens make this stress worse. The cop had no right to delay them which is why he let them go. He knew he was wrong.

The law says "OR returning from the scene of a medical emergency" The Driver said they were going to the "Prague ER". The cop was delaying his driver and threatened to take the driver to jail. Abandonment involves not delivering to higher care which did not happen. The cop only picked up his wife at his call. Hear her get in at 1:30 and say "what happened". Respond to this video... The cop is out of line. The ambulance appeared to have yielded to the cop when he saw him in the read view, though that seems to have not been fast enough for the cop. The cop should have just followed the ambulance and taken care of it at the hospital. The guy in the back should not have abandoned his patient like he did, but the cop could have stopped it all by acting with a little common sense. Ego seems to be a big factor in this, and the cop has none.

if you watch the video carefully you can clearly see what actually happened. when the driver of the ambulance realizes the police car is behind him he does slow down but is UNABLE to yield to the side of the road because there is clearly another vehicle on the shoulder with a passenger exiting. after passing the the vehicle you can see a VERY LARGE POTHOLE on the shoulder and whether consciously or unconsciously realizes this and pulls over AFTER the pothole. wow u'all don't see that?

It is not hard to comply with the police. No matter what profession you are, and no matter what your cargo is. This EMT does not have authority over this police officer, yet asserts himself as such. He physically fights the cops....HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL. Not fighting with the guys that risk their lives for you is common sense.

@FelchBelcher - I was a POST Certified California Police Officer from 1995-2002 having graduated from basic AND reserve academies. I retired due to an injury. Post retirement, I worked at a POST Certified police academy.

@ford1svt first your comparing the laws of your state with another state. Since you claimed to be certified you should know that laws vary from state to state. You can not justified this event which took place in OK base off Califonia police pratices. Clearly this officer was in the wrong. Once the officer was engage with the EMTs and they told him, that a patient was aboard. That officer is require to offer help or allow the emts to leave. Detaining them is putting the someone life at risk.

@paidday - Sorry, but I did research the vehicle laws in Oklahoma and it backed my position. Do the research yourself and see. Go to the OK DMV and then search the vehicle code for "emergency vehicle." If the patient's life was in fact at risk, the ambulance would have been traveling with lights and sirens - which it wasn't. You can't claim exigent circumstances when the ambulance is casually stroling down the road.

You are correct The actual Emergency Vehicle statute in Oklahoma does NOT require L&S in an Emergency. It says they "may" exercise the privlige". Not "must". Quote:
"A. The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle, when responding to an emergency call or when in the pursuit of an actual or suspected violator of the law or when responding to but not upon returning from a fire alarm, may exercise the privilege set forth in this section, but subject to the conditions herein stated"

yeah the trooper had every right to do what he did..he should've arrested the idiot!...they were not in an emergency or else they would have had their lights on and when the driver made the hand signals it pissed him off and understandably so! they could have drove out of there a long time ago if they would have done what they shouldve done and that was do what the trooper said! the dumb ass black emt is lucky he didnt get his ass beaten or tased for jumping out of the back like that!

Why wasn't the ambulances lights on if it was an emergency? The cop didn't know that. The black guy had no business coming out of the ambulance with his violent attitude. The cop told him he it had nothing to do with him, it was the WHITE driver who he wanted to talk to. The WHITE driver is who got chewed out but yet all the black people didn't see the black guy attack the cop. You can see him resist arrest but since he is black, you see what you want to see. Po ol black man.

But that cop was wrong saying what he said I live in Oklahoma and I kno that Oklahoma police can be real assholes and the black EMT did have something to do with bcause the patient is depending on both of EMTs to get them to hospital.

@crazeMoe buddy very firstly he said i am the incharge and cop did understand that and said "ok"..i would like to see the reaction of the same cop going to hospital in an emt and exact thing happens to him...didnt that coward cop knew they are driving the emt vehicle and obviously they will go to hospital..he can have say that to the control room like" i am following the emt vehicle which broke the rule and i will talk to them when they reach hospital" who would say no to this?
