  • My mothers ALTIMA 2.5 shakes really bad when its 50 and below. But once it warms up completely it runs like new.with 112k on the dash

  • What if theres broken bits in the motor, will the header help decrease the oil consumption?

  • fucking annoying with the voice change... very distracting...

  • helpful video but the voice distortion is beyond annoying

  • what do u put in between the o2 sensor and the header so the Check engine light wont come up?

  • i did that

ran a straight pipe but i notice its sucking alot of air and sucking up more gas

    anybody else experience this problem

  • Check me out, i didnt even have to replace the unit itself

  • Were can i get the spark plug non fouler at like the one in the video??

  • I have the Sentra SER 03 model and it seems like a common issue. I had to change mine with a generic version from eBay as well.

  • @hybridmd hows it workin for ya? ima do the same

  • does this go for sentras of this year too?

  • i don't understand how the pre cat material would get sucked into the motor if 4 strokes don't re use exhaust gases

  • was wondering how you get around the egr system. Thanks

  • You sound like an intelligent Smurf

  • hi, thanks for this video.

I found the pre cat on ebay, but where should i get that "special" O2 sensor.

where did u buy the whole thing from?

also, did that check engine light ever come up?

    thanks again.

i just bought an altima 03 just like yours and i have that P0420 code.

  • @mouljaviless

Hi i have and 05 altima and having that problem, and i would like to find the pre catif you can help on where to find it on ebay, that would be awesome, thanks

  • @mouljaviless

Hi i have and 05 altima and having that problem, and i would like to find the pre cat if you can help on where to find it on ebay, that would be awesome, thanks

  • i have an 05 altima 2.5 s and i was goin' to replace de precat with the header but my mechanic told me that he wasn't sure if this was legal here in raleigh nc, do you know if there's a web site where i can find out if this is legal here???? thanx

  • @eddgiles being a former resident of raleigh myself, since its bolt on why dont you keep the stock header on until inspection then bolt on you new and improved headers but like he said if you got two cats so you will still pass inspection no worries

  • @eddgiles dang finally somebody from nc is on youtube, wow, i have an 02 altima 2.5s and i have a few videos up of it, check em out.

  • what year/model Altima's are the precat problems on? From my research thus far, I have heard of no problems from 09/10 models...

  • i just bought ma headers 4 mine did u use the same screws 2 attach the bottom respond asap lease

  • hey my boy has a 2.5 what header should he get??

  • Dont take it to the dealer qbanhotsauce. The CrankShaft position sensor costs only 35 buck at your local AutoZone. I changed it out myself.

  • true..but I think the ECM still needs to be re-programmed..only the dealer has that capability.

  • I have the 05 Altima and it has never had problems with the Precat. I dont think it continued with the problem after the 04 model. I'm buying OBX headers for mine.

  • @sylboyz16 Your wrong, the 05 does have the pre cat problem which I am suffering from right now by adding 2 quarts of oil every other week.

  • is this still a problem on 05 models? nice setup buy the way

  • my 03 altima engine just shut off completely at a stop sign, just as i was about to get on the highway, scared to death

  • you need to take it to the dealer... there is a problem with your ECM/crank shaft position sensor/camshaft position sensor..this is a recall.

  • yea got that checked out, turns out it was indeed the crankshaft position sensor

  • cool... I am getting some headers and going to install them... we'll see how that turns out lol...you think with a stock exhaust and only a CAI...would headers give me any HP?

  • so i can just go into a nissan dealer and they'll do it for free????

if not, should i just replace the sensor???

how much should i expect to spend on this (not in the dealer) ?????

this is my first car and i'm desperate to find out what's going on, any answer will be appreciated.

  • How many miles did you have on the altima before you change the pre-cat?(because I have a 06 2.5s with 50,000 miles) and what type of header do you recommend (nismo or other brands?) so far no problems but I better be prepare! (help, please :( )

  • i can get you the megan racing header with the spacer for the check engine light.

  • whats the sellers name for the header and spacer, the link doesnt work anymore. thanks.

  • not sure who offers these anymore. it's been a long time...

  • @barkingelectron so did you have a check engine code after instaling the header did you see an increase in mpg ? please reply i got a 2.5 too

  • @FIcaraudioBTL no the light won't throw if you do it right. no, if anything slight decrease in mpg.

  • @yellowfever180 did u get a catalic converter on that header ....i have the 3.5 se model and the header doset come wit catalic converter....please respond thank you....great video thoe

  • @yellowfever180 i have an 02 nissan altima 2.5L 4cyl, the spacer you're talking about is called a spark plug defouler, i have some videos up of my car if you want to check them out. thanks travis

  • hahah "and then alllll this shit in here" lol i love the voice

  • I just replaced the headers on my 2003 Galant and the Oxygen Censor tripped the check engine light so I replaced it, and same problem occurred again. Where did you by the spacer and what is it exact name? Could you send me a link?

  • that shit happened to my 2001 2.4l, the pre cat ruined my engine and caused an engine leak that led to very low compression..... although it was kind of a beater everday driver and it probably could have been avoided

  • Creative person

  • hey man whats size O2 sensors did you put on the headers on there 2...but what size did you put on

  • factory sensors...not sure the size.

  • i have a 2001 2.4. where did u get the header?

  • great mod, improve power with longer extractors + eliminate the dangerous pre cat, looks great too.

My mazda6 has rear facing exhaust ports, that's gonna be hard to swap headers eh?

  • it won't be fun...

  • NO SUCH THING! as catalytic coverter parts getting SUCKED in engine! The parts gets BLOWN out, not sucked. Where do people get that from.

  • physics, logic, and reasoning...

  • how does the cat get sucked up back through the headers?... REALLY it doesnt suck it blows out wow noob! fix ur voice too

  • take a physics class douchebag. if that doesn't work try google.

  • do you need torque numbers on headers just like a head or no?

im installing headers on my friends 1993 sentra se-r and all it is is bolt off bolt on or do i i have to lube any parts bro?

  • i remember i looked up this information at the time, but don't remember the values. as for lubing up any parts i don't believe so. i may have used some anti-seize, but its pretty much take off bolt on.

  • that's a quality voice

  • hey so where did you get the spacer thing... it comes with the headers??? can you get me tha page??

  • a spacer can be made with 2 spark plug non-foulers, one has to be drilled out. Go to Auto Zone, it will cost like 4 bucks for 2 non foulers.

  • so how do i ask for them, are they all the same?

  • it's part number 42009, there's two different lengths, two of those will do just fine.

  • Thanks for posting this, very informative. Question for you: Do you know if 2006 qr25de engines (i have a 2006 sentra se-r spec v) still have this Pre-cat prob and the butterfly screw problem?

  • I think the butterfly issue was taken care of in 2006. I'm not sure about the pre-cat. Just look at the header on the front of your motor. If it looks like the one in the video that I replaced then you have the same problem. Essentially, you are looking for the bottom round (precat) section. Peace.

  • butterfly screws were revised in 05 models and on and your precat should be OK but just in case, installing a header wouldn't hurt. I think as long as it's not a 02-03 model QR25DE engine then it's in good shape. I have an 04 altima and I replaced the precat which didn't look too bad, it had 34K miles and the screen in the cat which had potential to break up and scrape cylinder walls looked in good shape so your 06 should be fine.

  • Jeez mate, what happened to your voice? Throat cancer? Sounds awful. My condolences.

  • ar the headers legal

  • hmm. i guess that depends. if you live in california or the chicago area where they visually inspect vehicles you might have a problem. they would likely fail you. if you live anywhere else they are as legal as any other modification. again there is a cat behind the headers so the vehicle would pass the emissions test in terms of emissions, but the inspector may fail you just for having changed it.

  • my mom had to have this done to her 2002 altima 2.5, with the QR25DE engine. along with other recalls, but other than that the car has been great.

  • things can't get sucked up the exhaust ports in your engine if your cat failed it certainly would not ruin your engine

  • you have no idea what you are talking about. ask any nissan tech how many they have seen. do you know anything about a precat? it is located right at the exhaust port. anyone who has had freshman physics knows this is very possible. if you don't believe me do a google search. there are plenty of people who have personally experienced this. the material in the precat can and will score the cylinder walls and will lead to massive oil consumption.

  • Wrong, nissan replaced thousands of engines due to this fault. The precat gets sucked back up into the engine and scores the cylinder, causing oil consumption which if goes unchecked blows the engine up.

  • It can and will happen

on the QR25DE the exhaust valves open slightly during the intake cycle to burn unburnt fuel so when it breaks it gets sucked back up and total failure occurs.

  • The guy I bought mine off of was a seller on ebay; I think he quit selling them. I used to have a link to another one. I'll see if I can find it and will post it if I am successful.

  • @barkingelectron hey dude do you know if its hard to replace the motor mounts on the 05 altima witch i would think is basically like your car?

  • This might have been posted before but who's the manufacturer of your header? I've got the 03 2.5 sl and I can't seem to find it anywhere. I also wanted to make sure I didn't get the one with the single 02 senser. Can you help?

  • thanks for the tips and information!

I have purchased an OBX sports header for my Altima 2.5 S '06, it appeared to have a single hole for an O2 sensor and without the catalyic, but yours has two O2 sensors and i have one!!! how is that?

and how can i get rid of the check engine light after installing? i really appreciate your reply.

    thanks

  • You have to place the second O2 sensor behind the second catalytic converter if you bought the one hole model. This means you will have to have an exhaust shop drill a hole that the second O2 sensor will fit in further down the exhaust line. If I were you I would send it back and find a two hole version.

  • i see...

so what about the check engine light?

    i don't want it! I HATE IT!!! :(

is there any way to get rid of it?

  • The light will go off if you properly install the second O2 sensor behind the second cat. There is no other way with a one hole header as far as I know.

  • but my OEM header has only one O2 sensor!!!

that's why i am surprised from your header that has two O2 sensors! mine has only one and it's 2006 model! from what i know Altimas 02-06 have the same engine QR25DE!!!

anyway, so as long as if i install my OBX header and the O2 sensor is fitted properly into the hole, the check engine won't appear, right? because i heard it will come ON no matter what, because of the ECU's fixed program? is that true?

  • 2004+ model Altimas have the second 02 sensor further down in the mid-pipe.

  • but mine is a 2006 model has only one O2 sensor!!!

i installed my OBX header perfrectly, which also has only one O2 sensor hole!!!

maybe there're different kinds of O2 system on each altima?! MAYBE??!!!

  • Like I said, the second one is further down, not on the header but further down in the mid-pipe. I'm about to get this done to my 04 altima. Your header is probably made only for 2004+ altimas.

  • the other hole is in the bottom of the car

  • i know, but mine doesn't have in the bottom! Only one O2 sensor hole!

i installed an OBX sports header, also which has only one hole of O2 sensor! no check engine light though!

  • Buy a spark plug anti fouler, drill it out so that the o2 sensor can fit inside it, and stick that into the header.

  • is this problem w/ the headers also a problem for 1.8 liter sentra engine headers. great educational video :)

  • i don't think so.

  • wow my voice sounds the same

  • Please let us know where you got the new header and the spacer for the sensor. The one's I see on ebay only have one connection for the sensors.

  • you can get a megan header on ebay for about 195 shiped and get those spacers [antifoulers] at a autoparts store for like five bucks. you have to drill the the one that the sensor screws into

  • my shit cracked but i might change it to headers

  • thnx for the info i will take it to my dealer and see what they tell me hopefully its nothing big ill reply back with what they tell me for whoever want to know

  • no wonder so many altimas are fuckin up and ppl dont know how to solve the problem... i own 1 myself so this info is very helpful

  • I have a 06 altima 2.5 and I did have to take it back for a ECU recall...the dealer swapped my engine and it works fine but recently

as I turn the key to start my car it needs that extra kick to start I think it could be my starter IDK but this didn't happen before when I had the old re-call engine in, I would just turn the key and it would start instantly.....I still love my car (dammmn Nissan)

  • why did they swap the engine? the ecu recall wasn't an engine swap. you must have had major issues. i know there have been some issues with crank/cam issues that might apply to your problem. from what i know the precat and butterfly screw issues are the only ones that could result in total engine failure. if your car is dying or not starting right look into the cam/crank sensors. good luck.

  • i can't seem to find a header similar to this one, could you please help me out and provide me with a link where i may be able to find one? thanks

  • there is no v4 its an inline 4

the v6 and v8 do make more hp thats why i would get them

  • lol i driven one of these i rather have the v6 the 2.5 is sluggish

  • good observation. i'm sure no one would have ever thought of a v6 having more power than a v4. i hear v8's are even better.

  • is one of the problems where the car for no reason out of knko where turns off???

  • are you saying your car just shuts off? could be anything. i would guess, knowing the altima, that it is a crank or cam sensor, but i'm no mechanic. just a guess.

  • hey dude where can i find this headers for my 2.5 altima??

  • where can I pick up that spacer for the O2 sensor?

  • not sure. a guy on ebay sold them in the past, but if you can't find it there you would have to make it i guess. maybe take the o2 sensor somwhere that sells that kind of stuff or a machine shop and have it made.

  • what about fuel consumption and horse power?

  • i haven't noticed any excess fuel consumption. there is obvious h.p. gain on the low end. i wanted to see how quick it was so after the install i took off from a dead stop against a friend in a grand prix gtp (supercharged). i stayed even with him until the shift to third. the increased air flow makes it really move through first gear. i'm guessing i got between 15 and 20 h.p. gain. again i didn't do it for that reason though.

  • did your check engine light went on????

  • no, the ses has not come on.

  • so will this work on a 07 altima

  • I want to know if this will work for the 07 2.5 I have just wondering

  • i'm not familiar with the 07, but i know they make headers for them. it might be a different model header though, not sure.

  • Hey what brand header did you install?

  • xspower

  • GOOD SH*T!

  • nice job explaining everything
