Songs from the '60s are the best. Wish new bands would spring up and start coming out with new songs with the same beat and creativity as they did in the '60s.
@jay92069 wow, looks and sounds so good. you have a good touch there. I am a big Them fan from the 60s, I'm not really sure why in truth, I think it's they just had a good sound. thanks
I play "Baby Please Don't go" in the key of E, the open strings makes a big difference, great playing though, check out Twangy guitar video, he plays it in the key of E.
Awsome playing! I'm 53 and just picked up the guitar after not playing since I was a kid, and never playing well I might add, I'm going to learn that if it takes the rest of my life, I'm afraid it might hahah.
Hi, nicely done, but the song was recorded in E. If you want a MP3 of the original THEM recording in E then I have a copy for you. PS the harmonica was an "A" type. And aldough you play nice you still miss a few notes. Take a look at the TV performance when this song was released. You can find it on YouTube. That was a playback performance but you can see clearly how the guitar was played. Regards N
It wouldn't surprise me if it was played live in E. It's a bit unusual for a song like this to be played in F. Though, interestingly, it's in the key of F on my vinyl LP. I guess it's possible my turntable could be out of whack but I doubt it.
The solo can simply be done using just 1 finger. You can see on youtube the original film of Them of this song and notice it was done in E. Secondly a harmonica in Ab is not for sale standard. I think the producer wanted the song a bit more uptempo and the fasting pitching brought the F. You can hear the high E string ringing together with the E note on the B string in the solo. That gives a double ring effect. This can only be done in the E tunning. Regards N.
It's often a struggle to hear people playing over a record, on this website but this guy is playing humbly and modestly and those not in the know, could easily think of this as the studio recordingk with the guitar's track turned up slightly.
since i follow your tutorial on Baby please don't go i rewrote the tab i have. it's almost the same but it uses a capo on the first fret. 1 to 4 fret works better because i don't have a capo.
Again thanks for all your time you putting in this Turtorials.
Just takes time, mate. You will gradually begin picking up more. You will find, for example, that you are picking out power chords in a song, which you can then move around till you're in the right place. You will notice that certain chords, the D or G for example, will stand out to you. They you will find individual notes and riffs easier, as when you know the scales, you can find your notes in that group. Soon, before you know it, you'll be playing along with a song you've only just heard!
so this is the one with 4,000+ views? i bet if you were wearing an MJ thriller suit and the red jacket you could get more views. and if you were dancing to thriller. you'd get 43897589347490.
Muy bueno !!!!!!!

Had a band back in High School, 1964.
Played Gloria, Here Comes The Night, Mystic Eyes and Baby Please Don't Go.
I played a Sunburst 1964 Fender Jaguar through a 1960 Fender Bassman.
Sold the Guitar about 5 years ago, it looked like SRV's #1 and still have the amp.
Played in alot of bands, but the Van tunes always got everyone up and dancing.

@jgstargazer
I have see many (most) of the guitar greats of the sixties/seventies.
I saw Them in Portage, Ind. back in the '67/''68 timeframe. They played both of these songs and the guitar player was awesome (a-w-e-s-o-m-e)!!
He didn't need Jimmy's help with anything, I can assure you. The riffs you are listening to were performed as well as Jimmy could perform them.
You are comparing two of the greats...

Great stuff. Legend has it that Jimmy Page played guitar in this recording - the 'Them' guitarist couldn't get it right.

what is that repeating bass riff underneath? Is it 0 - 2 0 - 2 or 0 - 3 - 0 -3 ? (on the low E)
I think some versions are different?

Perfect backing, you got the ear!
Do you play live with a band?
Would be great to see bands playing Them songs instead of lousy pop bands.

I have the chord E, Em, D, A up to E
I don't get that sound (it's from tabs, and if i see you play it, my chords are wront).
See can you do a small tutorial on this one to.
The one who say a Fender Jaguar is ugly, they don't know where they talk about.

There may be 4 chords in there,
At the very end of the fourth beat or two beat of the E chord, (and' beat) ,,, it temporairly goes to an E minor, then it proceeds to D.
Stichfam 2 years ago
on gloria are the opening chords D,A,E ?
