what are you expecting for a gameboy color game? Full-motion video? 3d view? fuck off. This is pretty much the best graphics on a gbc (compared to the original Dragon's lair)
Proves it could have been done on the NES if at such square on the screen that matches the resolution and size of the GBC screen. Lightly smaller like the SNES Doom screen take up.
Wow, I was expecting to see something crappy like the NES or SNES ports, but this is pretty damned arcade-accurate! What an impressive graphics engine!
For being on the Game Boy Color, this is actually a very impressive port. While not all the scenes are intact, and the sound is obviously lame, the animation is actually quite impressive.
@JasonPaul601 You can give the GBC a little slack, I mean it's a Game Boy for one, and two they probably focused all the memory into the graphics and animation, so the sound should naturally be a little off. It's only 4MB I think.
Here's why this is waaaay better than the NES/SNES versions. Capcom did this one, and Capcom always treats licenses with respect and makes awesome games out out of them.
Yeah, but I meant that they should have released the ORIGINAL arcade version for the NES and SNES, not the rubbish games they made, althought the SNES version had potential.
there's an article of how the managed to squeeze everything into a cartridge. I just saw the longplay for the first time and now I realize it's actually the same in twice the length (most scenes play twice, a few cutscenes removed).
eclips dit a incredible job of pulling all powers from the gbc,to make this port close to the original.
the graphics are awesome, and despites most of the sounds are weird,i,ve discovered in part 2that they surprisingly make use of the dpcm channel proving the gbc could do more than unly bleep sound, allowing for great voice acting!!!!!!!!!!
Impressive! They managed to cram the entire coin-op into a 2meg Gameboy cartridge. There's a few pieces missing (like the top of the stairs in the Giddy Goon room; you have to kill 2 more Giddy's before leaving) but that is moot considering the feat pulled off here.
I design games like this, but there are more than one right answer. I work entirely experimentively, but I always felt that what held Dragon's lair back was that it was too linear. Think about it, shouldn't there be 4 right answers and 1 wrong answer to every move made usually? I realise budgets were tight but I see that too many people try to immitate and replicate instead of innovate. you ought to check out my games.
@fantasynoff alot of trial and error taught me the moves and now I can beat singe(and the rest of the game) in 1 life! its the best non-identical port there is!
@stringanime I think the NES processor ran at a speed of 1.78MHz, in contrast to the Game Boy Color's 8.38MHz processing speed. So it's basically 4x faster than an NES.
Looks amazing, the sound is horrible and annoying.

Someone should draw out the whole game using Flipnote. I think it's possible.

Well, NES could only handle 512kb at max while GBC games are around 1 to 2mb at size.
GBC version of dragon's lair is about 2.5mb so that'd mean 5 NES cartridges. With famicom disk system this could have possibly been possible tho.

decent graphics, crap sound, wow, thanks for the upload, but no thanks to the game...

thge graphics are enormouse concidering the gbc limmitations.
alltrough you could see that the resolution and the amount of colors is much lower and it also runs slower but it,s still amezing .
but the music sound is like piece of shit, they could,ve use the rare dpcm soundchannel for better sound!!!!!

I remember seeing this on our local game store's shelf and thinking "NO WAY"
I bought it in an instant and was so surprised at how awesome it was.
Sure it wasn't as high resolution as the original but...playing this during class...people were amazed.
God I need to play it again O_O

@fantasynoff Not quite small. 2MB or 4MB. I don't remember well.

From what I read it's a little over 2mb. I'm surprised they were able to cram so much in there towards the end of GBC's live span.
