John was actually supose to be onboard that flight. the first flight with a "civilian". the powers that be, decided afterward though, that a school teacher would be more appropriate for the first flight of a civilian.
Can anyone post the commercial video clip of Paul Anka's song "You are my destiny", where it showes Victor Browne on a horse with a flowing white shirt and perfect tight jeans, and a lady eating Sweet Escapes chocolate (I think it was Sweet Escapes). It was such a perfect image that I cant see the song being used in a pet commercial!!! Can anyone please post that one soon?
This is the most honest and touching tribute to the CHALLENGER crew that can ever be spoken and with John's amazing storytelling and musical composition for them, their legend will live on and continue to inspire all who discover their story. I made a video about them which I hope to post on here by the 25th anniversary of the accident, which will be on Friday, January 28, 2011. I'm sure Dick, Mike, Judy, El, Ron, Greg and Christa would be moved. The clips of them make this performance poignant.
what a powerful, beautiful video! I will never forget that day in 1986, such a tragedy. This song is a wonderful tribute to those brave souls. RIP Challenger astronauts, and RIP John Denver....
@SciFiMoviePro - Please do not leave a ''comment'' if you cannot write something decent...it is obvious for your age you haven't matured so ''grow up!"
@TourmalineOpal It is on one of the compilation sets that came out a few years ago. "The Rocky Mountain Collection" It is the last song on disc 2. (I'm not sure I can post the link I wanted to post.)
This song is one of my favourite John Denver compositions. I say this because the man was a genius in my opinion. He really understood how to put across a simple lyric that gave so much impact, and his melodies were amazing. If he had lived I am sure he would have written so many more wonderful songs...I find him inspirational and one of the best songwriters of all time.
Saw John live in 1986 at 5 concerts including NEC and The Albert Hall.....I don't think the world really appreciated how good he was?.....his voice, his guitar and his composing.I can't help but wonder what songs and melodies we will never hear since we lost him...does anyone else seem to sing his songs to themselves everyday or is it just me!?..
He truely was a remarkable man. And that singing voice - there simply is no one better. I have seen him many times in concert, and had the great fortune to meet him. I thank our great Creator everyday for bringing him into my life. He is truely missed, but I am so glad to be able to see these great videos! Thank you
John Denver died in a plane crash on October 12, 1997 in Monteray Bay in California. He was piloting an experimental aircraft he had just purchased. The cause was while attempting to switch the fuel tanks (using an ill-positioned switch in the plane) his foot activated the roll controls of the plane and put it into a dive he could not pull out of (that was the conclusion of the NTSB investigation). You can find the full report of the accident on the NTSB website.
he worked diligently to help create the Citizens in Space program. In 1985 John received the NASA Public Service Medal for helping to increase awareness of space exploration by the peoples of the world, normally reserved for spaceflight engineers and designers. Also in 1985, John Denver passed NASAs physical exam and was a finalist for space flight, scheduled to possibly make the first citizens trip on the Space Shuttle in 1986.
despite being a very accomplished pilot John failed the medical to go into space, Christa passed, John never forgave himself, he believeed he should have died in that launch :-( and 11 years later we lost him anyway, miss you JD, R.I.P.
JD not going into space for the US had NOTHING to do with failing a medical exam. John worked hard to establish the "Citizen in Space" program, was a finalist for the mission, but they decided to send a teacher vs a singer. I am 99.9% sure he passed all Nasa requirements.
As many may recall JD almost went with the Russian program, but his 2nd wife was pregant and he didn't want to leave her so he chose to stop that route to space. Very sadly we lost him anyway.
