Leatherman Surge vs Victorinox SwissTool, part 2

I choose the surge also until the tools became loose and were falling out and jammed into the pliers when I closed the tool. The screws to tighten can not be tightened with out a special tool I do not have. I m going with the Swiss tool.

I personally am not a big fan of Leatherman products, I've bought the Kick and Freestyle, and both of them began to rust on me within weeks, even after oiling them and keeping them as dry as possible. I think it may just be the climate I'm in though. The stainless steel Victorinox uses just suits my needs better.

Everybody I come across that actually use theire tools on a regular basis seems to come to the same conclusion which is that Leatherman beats victorinox hands down on blade steel (edge retention), plier and general toughness.

The only thing that pisses me off to no end with Leatherman is that they havent seen fit to put a simple awl on theire medium models but seeing as I carry the Surge in my backpack for heavy duty jobs in any case I suppose It's not all that bad.

@88Kamikaze69 I couldn't agree more. What I would also add to Leatherman medium and larger tools along with an decent awl would be a chisel like on Victorinox

Thay both are good, though the Leatherman's seem to be stronger and with more cutting power.

But honestly I have not tested them to the extreme it is just an overall impression after using them for regular tasks.

The swiss tool is great, I really like the spring system as well as the refined tool set. I also found that when I really need to use it, Leatherman comes out on top. The tools are more accessible because they "clump" and can be whacked out on the palm of a gloved hand. Thanks for the video!

Nice video, both of them. That is the SwissTool X model, which is the best of the 3 SwissTool versions. The other two is the Standard SwissTool and SwissTool RS. I like the array of tools the best on the X model. I agree with you though about which of these two MT's is best for outdoors. And the reasons you mentioned. Great video!

Great review, I have both of these (actually both the scissors and non-scissors variation of the SwissTool) and both are very nice. The Surge is good if you aren't going to carry a dedicated knife or if you are going to use your file/saw to the point they wear out often, while the Swisstool packs in a few more features if you are carrying a separate knife anyway. Love the chisel and use it quite often, Leatherman needs one too.
